posted a message on Season 8 'free' sets?

There has to be a brief PTR, the set rotation, Conquests and Journey changes (plus any minor tweak) will be checked prior to release.

So either S8 is datamined just prior to S8 start, or at the start of S8. I have faith in superman Bagstone to create a new Journey tracker, and Cyberdoc has pointed out that looking at the new SJ is another factor in choosing a longterm start in S8. The probable sets seem favorable, the bottom half of the Journey tracker will not shift much, the boss kill list will change (but you are going to kill them all eventually), so it's the specials and the Conquests.

Almost all the Youtube videos I've seen for some new tweak involve NS toons, as they have access to whatever goodie they need in order to explore the build. Most of the rest of Youtubes have been PTR toons, where the high drop rate also 'provides'. A handful of youtubes pop up about half-way thru the season about 'what I did'. With marketspeak Eras now being chanted by the coffee boy, unless you have a pressing need for a stash tab, or like ranking early, either you are gone, or in NS.

The Era concept dropped down from corporate awhile ago, explains why so many people have retired or left. The slow filling of posted jobs means nothing is coming in the near future, and it doesn't hurt to fish in the meantime. The only interest I have in S8 is related to either playing something new, getting into an active clan so I can see what the 1000+ paragon game is like, or seeing if I can zoom up faster repeating S7 final build. Otherwise, it's NS to polish/explore S7 build or the backburner. S7 broke my S6 final build, so I'm somewhat happy that S8 will not break S7.

Right, that's why it took YEARS to happen. Stick to your business models

posted a message on patch with nothing?

It cannot be a patch with Nothing

as noted elsewhere, the sets MUST change

    and the Journey must change

to not do both will be a long term error

perhaps there will be a brief PTR to ensure that the changes worked, and maybe the impossible drops are once again 'fixed'

I'd also include mastering the set dungeon. Sure, if could be put under 'Finishing the journey' but for most part, the objectives in the journey build on top of what's come before. The set dungeon is a whole different beast in itself and there's typically one set per class that has super easy set dungeon. Picking a class who's haedrig's gift is this set or is one of that class' viable GR pushing sets will mean you won't have to farm up one more set.

In a team/clan environment, I'd add on Barb and WD. If you have other players to help you speed clear rifts, WD and Barb have Arachyr and IK which are another two easy set dungeons and both sets are end game viable for GR64 (IK with R6 at least... not sure how it does by itself these days).

Ah yes, the set dumgeon, it is indeed a wicked curve on the road to completing SJ. Been a pita to me since S5 until S7, when I planned at the start how to beat it. Getting a starter (I've never finished with it, for reasons Bagstone outlines) set that is a simple setD is just gravy.

IK6/R4 sat on top of the leaderboard for a month, +1GR over #2...got bumped, came back in hours and was +1GR again. I'd say it does rather well up to the low 90s....and is an easy switch to R6/IK4, but not as much fun as MotE.

Having solved the setD problem for S7, I got to encounter the other Journey 'curve', the speedrifts. A lot of incentive to go DH if just around for a stash tab should speed be a need again.

'Fist of Az' - well, waiting for it to drop will take a long time....but being proactive with rare upgrades, it was a rather short effort for me.
Thanks to all for an enjoyable read!

posted a message on Season 8 'free' sets?

I have screenshots of S5 and S7 free sets, but not S6. I'd like to predict S8 sets.

    Class    S5        S6      S7      S8
    Barb     MotE      ?R6?    WotW    IK?
    Cru      Invokr    ?       Rland   ?
    DH       Shado     Mar     UE      Nats
    Monk     MK        Inna    Rain    Ulia
    WD       Jade      ?       Hell    ?
    Wiz      Fire      Del     Tal     Vyr

Can you fill in the question marks ??

His thoughts echo mine in that I think Wyatt Cheng will be announced as new Game Director. He's A Diablo OG from way back in the Blizzard North days. I think this would be an excellent choice if he were to take the helm.

posted a message on The BIG Thorns Guide - Thorns Basics, Thorns Gear, Thorns Skills

There are comments that the +20% Physical Damage found on Swapland Waders, SoJ, bracers & ammy does not actually aid thorns. The belief that this PD boost does work springs from the Physical Damage cycle of the CoE - which apparently is not really done (software) as PD but as a separate boost. A good (10 runs) test of 'time to clear' between a thorns build without additional PD on those 4 slots versus 'time to clear' with the added PD would seem to belong in the 'one true guide to thorns'

Alas, I just finished SJ (do not change builds during seasons! and start on time too) and in celebration, wiped out my 3 thorns toons, otherwise I would do the test....if the season had run to at least 30 October, then I would have done so....oh well

So will you answer this interesting question??

I imagine the sun rising is an indicator to some folks that something big is coming at Blizzcon.

hehe, yup their wallets are burning, but they haven't noticed the massive brain drain out of the devs and think the ones left (that haven't fixed anything) can whip up something 'NEW'. I see these folkes in the local casinos all the time. I'd say the highest bosses are winding down everything outside of the 'magic money machine of WoW'. As a former middle manager, the job openings mean nothing, positions get filled when it's important and lay around idle when just fishing

posted a message on D3planner wrong multipliers?

It's trivial to have Planner compute something simple, like 10 damage @200% and see what happens. The math isn't being done 'weird', it's been done the same way for centuries. The way percentages are spoken of is exactly the same as in financial circles (how much more money will I have? 4.5%)

Your complaint appears to be with the game devs and their phrasing, as most of Planner is repeating the game description. For fun, check out the popup for Area Damage.

And I was just thinking about a T1, T4, T6, T10 version....and dumping T10 from mine since T11 appears to be just as fast now.

Firefox only shows the ability to transpose rows and columns, not the ability to eliminate undesired difficulties. You can cut and paste one up very fast in GIMP.
