There was a blog post on the 3 powers already - it's a good idea, but needs better implementation than their alpha version of it.
Very nice art in this blog!

Legendary items are still the top tier from what I read since they STILL offer more properties than rares. In the true endgame, say after 2k hours, you won't have upgraded rare items on you. Upgraded rares would be just the step to perfect legendaries.
Magic -> Rare -> Upgraded rare/set/legendary -> Legendary with perfect rolls/mythics
If D4 is to come 2021 they will show a playable demo at Blizzcon. But I personally doubt it that is the case since their official statement after the fiasco last year was that they did NOT had any plans for D4 reveal at Blizzcon 2018.
Yep, I expect D4 announcement with cinematic and gameplay video.
If I have to predict a release year, I go with 2022 in case D4 has open world, and 2021 if it is classical aRPG like D2 and D3.
We could easily get a D4 announcement at Blizzcon 2019 and it could easily turn out to be an FPS game.
Don't get hyped up until we see a D4 gameplay on PC!
If D4 is indeed already 4 years in development and has changed drastically during this time, this means even worse news - its developers are same level clowns as those of D3.
Meanwhile the new PoE patch notes word count is over 9000 - literally. Not a joke! Precisely 10304 words. It even goes above the paragon cap in D3!
Server slams in 2018. Feels BETA man!
D2: HD mod in 2019.
D3: Maintenance mode, more of the same we already have, power creep.
D4: Possible announcement in 2020. If it is not a top-down view it is a no buy for me and the logic is it won't be. It will look flashy and colorful in a 3d perspective allowing people to spend tons of cash on it for cosmetic items.
aRPG/MMO in another universe: I'd love to see a post-apocalyptic (Fallout-like) setting done by a top studio like Blizzard. I think such setting gives a lot more freedom to its designers and would kind of change our focus from the typical things present in Diablo.
Summary: Whatever comes next, it will be oriented with the idea to make money. It won't be done just for the sake of experimenting with something new, it will be well calculated money machine. That said I don't expect miracles. For such to happen passion and freedom are needed. And money does not have to be your main goal. It has to be the art and the gamers. Kind of unrealistic things for the big studios. But at least one can enjoy the AAA cinematics from them. They seem to sell the products well.

I believe we will see something next year!
Next year is D2 HD. If they are making D4 or an aRPG in another universe it is 99% not a top-down view like D2/D3 and we might expect the reveal of that not earlier than 2019.
Hi, Chris! Thank you for the giveaway!

News about D3 upcoming system changes and new gameplay content in the form of 2nd expansion pack.
Also, thanks to DF for the ticket giveaway and future coverage!

LOL, they will redeem this year or be forgotten. I prefer to see the first case happening. Blizzard gave so much to everyone of us.

This is going to be an INSANE BLIZZCON, best ever!

Yeah, like nobody scrapped the second expansion and turned it into a DLC. Or delayed the appearance of Themes with 10 Seasons? The reason why they placed D3 into maintenance mode for so much time was that they thought D4 will be enough of a cake for the aRPG player base. And now, suddenly, we get a blog post about incoming system updates - well, seems like D4 won't be a cake at all, and D3 has to be brought back from the grave.

D3 is alive and kicking again nevertheless all the people who tried to bury it. And can become even more popular if D4 is a hybrid game and the continued support is made adequately.

Nice chart, Bagstone.
Clear illustration that Necro was not a big success for them and smart patch notes beats any DLC.
I think the recent blog post about the continuation of the D3 support (hinting at "system updates") means they are bringing the best Season Theme for Blizzcon. Will it include set items redesign, core changes to item hunt (new tier maybe?), changes to paragon system, redesigned item stats? We have to see.
But one thing is certain - they finally started walking in the path of understanding what their very own player base wants. Where this will lead us? We have to see.
WoW Classic is huge success - maybe they will analyze the data from it and apply the philosophy of prolonged item hunt to D3 also. This can't come without core stats redesign and punishing of old dedicated grinders, but let's not forget the majority of these grinders cheated at some point. If you have to sacrifice 1% of the legit grinders to get rid of all the nonsense in D3 and bring back all players who left in the past, I think that's a trade you have to make.
We shall find answers in Blizzcon. I expect they'll finally announce MTX (cosmetic, stash space) coming to D3 there.

There is a new forum software implemented at the official D3 forums since yesterday and it comes with an integrated blue tracker. Check it out!

I prefer cartoon 3D than any 2D. Reason is gameplay suffers a lot due to 2D. UI can NOT ever be worse than D3 so from my pov I am not worried about these.
But botting may very well kill D4 for me quickly. Seriously, if they allow botting to interfere with the competition I am done with this IP as long as those don't you use bots, guys folks own it. It will be hard for me to leave the series I played most, but if they allow botting to ruin a third Diablo game, I am OUT.

D4 biggest threat is botting.
D4 devs have to understand that botting needs to be killed by design when competition is involved.

Not only all content should be solo doable, but they have to keep the interest of all groups of players in the game be it casual, regular, dedicated or competitive; as well as hardcore and SSF. We would derive the thread if we go more in depth into what D4 needs, but maybe a mod could split it if there is interest in such topic.

Right now I really hope they don't mess up D4 and we receive a proper cARPG, the announcement date is not so big of a deal, although I enjoy the building up of the hype train, which for good or for bad started very early this year.

November 7, 2018: A Quick Word from Blizzard
We want to start by saying we hear you.
Since the moment we stepped into the office on Monday, we have been discussing everything Diablo non-stop. We’re fully committed to listening and engaging—so please keep the constructive feedback coming. Our primary focus right now is poring over that feedback to inform internal discussions, and we’ll follow up with further thoughts as soon as we can.
August 8, 2018: Multiple Diablo projects in the works
Greetings heroes, I am community manager Brandy Camel, also known as Nevalistis.
On behalf of the Diablo team, welcome back to Sanctuary for our newest season. For those of you still rocking your heroes in Reaper of Souls, you might have noticed we did something a little bit different for Season 14: Themed Seasons. The Season of Greed is our first Themed Season and we plan to explore additional themes in the future.
We’d also like to let you know that the forges here at Blizzard are burning hot. And we have multiple Diablo projects in the works. Some of them are going to take longer than others. But we may have some things to show you later this year. We hope you stay tuned, while we work to bring these Diablo experiences to life. None of this would be possible without the support that you have shown us for over 20 years.
So whether you first joined us in Diablo 3 or you are a seasoned veteran, thank you. Diablo is, and always will be, part of Blizzard’s identity, and we can’t wait for the future.

Hey Bagstone,
DFans alive again is great news. Even better however is DFans and HPwn are now owned by a small independent French team who are these games fans too! We couldn't have asked for a better start! Check this thread and the comments by jleclanche for more info.

4 years after this thread emerged we have:
- Almost no existing non-botting playerbase
- All top competitive players left the game
- Botters to non-botters ratio hit the sky
- 9.9k paragon player
- 99% of the regular D3 players in the past oriented towards other games
- Viewers interest hit the bottom
- D3 aRPG share went from hero to zero
- A mobile Diablo game has been announced
- Diablofans is shutting down
The only missing thing from the list above is D3 servers closing down.
While we warned and written thousands of posts on the topic no one prevented what eventually happened - the paragon system completely destroyed this game to pieces. D4 guys, take notes.
See ya,
Skelos

This counts in the "multiple projects" joke?
