Once again thanks for sharing!
Alabaster...even now I regret not being able to give a shot at that version of the game.

While exploring ways to discourage exploitative behavior is something we're continuing to do (so thank you for your reports), players appear to be enjoying their battles through Sanctuary and finding great loot along the way. Currently cannot play due to connection issue (again)

I play self found single player since release and like it that way (give me offline and I'd explode of joy)
Yet I can see that a safe trading envyronment would add to the experience for those players who likes it and I wouldn't have any problem with an AH which does not affect the game so much (like items drop ratio, just to make an example).
Unfortunately AH in D3 was also a great limiting factor when it came down to development and new features: every time Blizz thought to implement something they had to ask themselves "will this work well with the current AH system?".....most often the answer was no.
So BoA made its comeback.
Now they have more freedom in what they plan and this is a good thing in itself.
For all the guys who likes to trade I hope Blizz come up with a reliable trading system, just one that's not mandatory to play the game at its fullest.
To Maka and the other fellows who, alongside my humble self, since before release were sayng "this AH system will ruin the game!": -

May 19, 2013pikke posted a message on Diablo III: The Road So FarI've contrasting feelings about the game.Posted in: News
I like the game, I've been playing it with no breaks till I got my hands on it, about a week after release.
I play almost 99,99% alone, I've tried to play with friends at times, but I just love to play solo.
I have 10 characters, all of them levelled at the same time, 2 out of 10 killed Diablo in Inferno
The game has improved.
A lot, I dare say.
But.....this game has some built-in flaws that you cannot fix, at least not without a complete change of some core mechanics.
Some of the decisions they took while developing the game didn't feel like a good choice to me at the time (arrogant of me, I know)
Since before beta I thought they were starting from false premises (example: Blizzard seems to think that solo playing is some sort of weird behaviour they should help you to get rid of....why?) when planning this game, I still think so.
At least I've seen a some steps in what I think is the right direction.
But I'm just a Diablo addicted who still play the game almost each day, so what I know? -

This just add to the feeling that the original game, the one planned for Dec 2011, had some horrible flaw they noticed too late and so they scratched it and scrapped togheter something that would resemble a game for 2012 release.
I't not even believable that after so long (4 years?) they realized that PvP deatmatch "has no depth" and "lack balance".
I knew balance would be (and will be) really difficult, and I'm not exactly the brightest mind on this swirling rock.
oh well, PvE improved and it's fun to play, let's hope they prove me wrong on PvP too. -

I still have many goals to accomplish, usually find a worthy upgrade or two in a month for one or another of my 10 active characters, just found my 2nd set item, have yet to fight an "uber" boss let alone crafting an infernal ring.
Unfortunately I cannot play HC otherwise I'll have many more things to do.
Oh, I play SP self found till release.

Since I put my hands on a Diablo game I played single player, I never felt the need for trade nor multiplaying, even if I liked community life a lot.
D3 imposed on me the limitations of both AH and online only.
I was one of those who argued against the AH system and set my resolve to play self found since release.
I still think it was the best choice for me, it reduced somewhat the impact of the AH.
But I couldn't do and cannot do and will not be able to do anything about lag spikes, disconnections and the like.
I cannot play HC, I cannot even play multiplayer.
I played a couple of times with Maka and enjoyed it but the game keeps lagging and lagging and it's tiring after a while.
Yet I understand the reasons behind it and accept the fact that we have to keep up with it even if it's just for lack of a better alternative.

I add my thanks!
Trade should be completely removed from the game? I think no but a better solution is needed.
Perhaps we should open a post and start brainstorming, maybe Blizz will take notice if we think of a good solution.
As OP stated the actual AH system is NOT a good solution.
It grants too easy access to powerful items to too many players too quickly which, as a consequence, lead to:
1) too many powerful chars farming at high MP and thus injecting an even greater amount of items in the AH
2) the game feels too easy (if you buy stuff, and so came MP)
3) not rewarding enough (aka nothing good drops, and so came BoA recipes)
4) with no end content (item hunting is a powerful motivation but why should you play again and again if nothing good will drop and anyway you can buy it and save the hassle? and so....Paragon and Hellfire Ring)
5) just frustrating (aka why am I being punished for not buying my way to efficiency? see picture posted by brx)
Also whenever Blizz devs thought about a fix or a new feature or a change in geme mechanic they had to factor in the AH (again, see picture posted by brx) which most often than not it's been a limiting factor.
Now they are rid of it and can have a much freer approach.

Also they could give Shen the chance to combine gems and some craftable (maybe obtained by salvaging jewels you drop) to craft jewels with a specific set of properties.
Add recipes and tomes and it would add a bit more to crafting.
If any of these ever happens I hope they will raise the gems/crafting materials stacking cap since I already have half a tab full of the stuff.
Or introduce a dedicated stash.
