ACT4 = entirely blackish gray... and act 3 was pretty darn dark as well especially in the sewers. Act 2 wasn't very colorful... its was primarily sand colored.
Personally:
I think the background needs to be dark especially inside catacombs, cathedrals, and in hell. Outdoors I think colors are fine the way blizzard have them in D3 so far.
But your character and monsters should stand out and remain colorful. That's especially the case for your character, less so for monsters- if monsters have a similar gradient of colors it helps us differentiate players from monsters (it will depend on the type of monster).
If you look at Chaos Sanctuary the background was very dark and only had like one shade of dark gray.
Here's a video of chaos sanctuary: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...43278133099279
There are still plenty of colors, but the colors serve as identifiers for the player to better recognize what is happening on the playing field. the brighter and more varied the colors are the easier it is for us to see whether or not our enemy is frozen, struck and poisoned... and whether we are on fire, poisoned, cursed etc... It is also easier to recognized these things against a saturated/colorless backdrop.
The colors help guide the eye as to what is happening on the playing field. If everything was washed out we'd have difficulty understanding what's happening.
So the environment and monsters in their original state are very grayish black.. its mainly when they are frozen, poisoned or casting spells that color appears.
In the context of act 4 of course. There are more colors in act1 2 and 5.
What I find interesting is how cool bright colors look on a dark backdrop, and how it really gives a scary, gore-like atmosphere.
I also think the player's light radius should play a equivalent role in diablo 3. It's really scary when you can't see much pass your light radius. I also think the devs should work more with lighting. I don't mind colors but they need to be near light sources. Areas that aren't illuminated should remain dark/less colorful. So outside in the daylight it should be colorful, while dungeons should be dark and the light radius surrounding your character and light sources should determine the level of brightness and color revealed around them.

Many thought starcraft 2 could never be made in 3D and still maintain its original gameplay style. But look how gorgeous and stunning it is in 3D! Starcraft 2's gameplay looks almost identical. But better yet you can rotate and lower the camera angle to enjoy the battle scene.
I think its wrong to assume that if a game is made in 3d it will be too shiny and lose its carnal, gothic look. There are significant ways to reduce the glossyness that accompanies 3d games like WoW or Mythos. Just look at Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom. That game has preserved a very dark atmosphere. Resident Evil is also very dark, grudgy looking game.
All I can say is if D3 doesn't go 3D in this day and age it will be less successful than Titan quest.
Although I'm sure it will look good in 2d, better than Wakfu (the best looking isometric mmorpg I can think of). It will be a disapointment.

I've never found more than 2 high runes and one soj and I've played for about 2 years. And the items being sold at the merchant sucks! Diablo should have been fixed... high runes should have been more readily accessible, this would have reduced duped items considerably. Since people could actually compete without having to spend endless time finding 60 perfect gems to trade for one high rune and then end up getting a duped.
I agree with everything except that he says d3 won't come out hehe. The single player was great but online was seriously flawed. It better not reoccur in D3.
And what about the constant spamming on the channels.. its so despicable... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqNdcNuBiH0&feature=related

Diablo is known for its top down view and crowd control style of gameplay (something which is best done from above). The fast paced dueling in diablo 2 can also only be done from above. I can't see battling in diablo 3 from a closeup 3rd person angle like in Age of Connan.
I agree change can be good and oftentimes is especially if you have a realible and perfectionistic company like blizzard that never releases anything that isn't top notch. Even if they change things around one tends to trust blizzard that they know best.
And change there will be. We're almost certain to see some serious changes taking place. It is in my opinion that the blizz team can do almost limitless things with the storyline, quests, skill tree mechanics, crafting system, pvp, and add things like mounts etc. and still end up with a game that will be recongnized at first glance by gamers as being part of the Diablo franchise. I for one welcome an MMO (which is sure to bring more content)... but the minute they change camera angles and gameplay mechanics that's where I draw the line and that's when diablo no longer retains it's diablo feel. Most RPGs are from or can be played from a WoW angle, like neverwinter nights, Everquest, Lineage, the upcomming Aion, Warhammer Online guild wars.... the list goes on.
The only games like diablo are ragnarok, titan quest, and Mythos. The genre was pretty much spawned by diablo. People see diablo hand in hand with a fixed high vantage point.
Take a moment and look at diablo 2 duels, then look at duels from other games. Nothing compares! Dueling in diablo places an emphasis on agility. One thing which detracts me from rpgs is that you rarely need to master combat skill techniques. In diablo knowing how to shoot teleport and dodge incoming projectiles will predict 30% of the outcome of the battle. The rest of course is how you invest your skill points, how to effectively use this skills (taking into consideration the opponents weakness) and how you equip yourself.
And its my firm believe that this can only be replicated under the same conditions as diablo2 with a top down view.
just take a look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xH_yp9BVJOU&feature=related
or this:

Could this honestly be done at a 45 degree angle (really the only other viable alternative) and slightly more zoomed in like most mmorpgs?
Attributing change with good is so cliche. Change can also be bad. And one should not be so careless as to be so confident that change will result in something better then the original formula. Here's another cliche, if the formula isn't broken don't try to fix it.
I also am in favor of considerable camera freedom for the sake of looking at your character pwn from different angles. But this will be for aesthetical purposes and would most likely not be the camera angle of choice if you intend to do serious damage. Its more just to enjoy seeing your meteor smack onto enemies at a distance and enjoy the graphics.
I second this question as well.

Surely its possible but it wouldn't be diablo now would it. I think for the sake of looking at your character from close up shots (vanity mode) and taking cool screenshots there should be a camera for that. There could also be some leeway that allows the player to slightly lower the viewing angle but not too much and it would most likely not be as efficient to fight with a modified camera angle. It should be a lot easier to scan the battle field, perform attacks and duel from the diablo 2 vantage point we are all familiar with. Lowering the camera angle, zooming in and rotating should be done solely when you are in control of the monsters and can preoccupy yourself with secondary priorities. It would be practicle to have a reset key which if pressed would the player can easily switch back to the normal camera angle.

In this link it says that: " it mentions that the team that developed Diablo is looking for some team members. "

What I've read (and I can't remember exactly where, but I'm fairly confident that I'm not making this up) In an interview with one of the blizzard head honcho, the blizz rep was stating that they were in the process of reassigning jobs, and taking their more talented World of Warcraft employees and placing them on the D3 team. While simultaneously replacing their vacant job on the WoW team with knew less experienced employees.
This is an indicator that they are throwing serious ressources at this new project.
I doubt blizzard would venture off to make something identical to d2 (a small project made by a 40 man team) simply because D2 has very little content if compared with the competition of this day and age.
The secret Next-Gen MMO is unequivocally going to be blizzard's attempt at continuing their diablo franchise, to think otherwise is simply foolish.
As you might have noticed under many of the MMO employment listing it is written that the given employee will work with the diablo 2 team.
Another semi-reliable person who thinks the next MMO is in fact Diablo3 is Surfer Girl
When surfer girl was asked What is this new Blizzard MMO was?
She replied: "Demons, the Blizz don't do new IP."
http://kotaku.com/gaming/rumor/surfer-girl-speaks-again-blizzard-mmo-and-eas-karma-334125.php
Here is another interesting rumor sprung by Surfer Girl which you might all be interested in:
"The next Diablo (probably titled Diablo III) will feature a single-player component (akin to previous titles) and an MMO component (less akin to previous titles), will be announced sometime next spring and is still on track for release before decade’s end.”
I think this is very possible. A dual single player/MMO package seems like the ideal solution to retain as much as possible of Diablo's single player success as well as introducing all the experience the MMO genre and gaming world has learned over the years. Thanks to WoW, Blizzard has learned a lot about MMOs and they can apply this newly learned knowledge to their next MMO project. It would be a waste not to use their wealth of knowledge in diablo3. All the things they wish they could have implemented into WoW can now be created in D3. But this doesn't mean diablo 3 will be like WOW. The gameplay mechanics can remain considerably different, however in terms of quests, crafting systems, exchange rates/economy, satisfying both hardcore and softcore customers etc... we know we can trust blizzard to insure that this these components will be well contructed.

However I think that if duels are allowed within a faction either it should not result in a death or it must be mutual.

And I thought how funny it would be if we made a song with diablo as the narrator.
So if you guys are interested we could all submit what we think would be funny lines for diablo to sing.
Here are some examples but I'm sure you guys could do better.
I was gonna take on the high heavens but then I got high...
I was gonna have my sweet revenge but then I got high...
Now I'm stuck in a soulstone and I know why... because I got high bc I got high ....
I was gonna conquer the world of sanctuary but then got high....
I was gonna free my brothers too but then I got high...
We should be able to get a full set of lyrics assembled at the end.

This game will be pure ecstacy... Diablo 3 better top it!

The game company was just recently bought out by Intel. So now they'll probably have tons of ressources available to make this game live up to its teaser videos.
Let's all hope that diablo3 uses a top notch game engine. Technology is advancing at an incredible pace. We can now purchase a computer that can run wow for less than 300$. Nvidia 8800 gtx graphics cards now sell for about 200$. And a new line of graphics cards are right around the corner. Now with so many MMO in the works the only way diablo3 will compete and attract people in its direction is if the graphics are tremendously alluring.
We know what happened with Starcraft Ghost; blizzard had to drop the project because it ran on an outdated engine. Let's hope they don't repeat the same mistake.
By the time diablo 3 is released your general computer will easily be able to run Crysis; the latest Direct 10 FPS game. So graphically, if Diablo3 is going to make a significant imprint on the gaming community it has to be as good or better than crysis. Note that by the time D3 is released the game will most likely be at least two years older than crysis.

That's because this article was posted on the 2nd of Febuary 2007... not 2008.
This article is over a year old.
But no doubt diablo 3 is comming. I think that article pretty much confirms it. All that's left is to really figure out when. At least we know it won't be within a decade of the release of the burning crusade.
And judging by mike morhaim's uncontained laughter at the end of this interview:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/23324.html
He was no doubt hidding something. He's got plenty to say about D3, and he's laughing because he knows he could totally spill the beans. But he tries to keep his cool and manages to say "no comments" followed by his uncontrolled laughter. A sign of nervousness. And your only nervous when you have a secret your forced to keep to yourself.
