Prices are not determined by mere rarity. There are other factors. From PvP metagame to most popular classes, everything has influence over prices.
Example, torches. Druid torch? Not worth very much. Paladin Torch, especially a perfect one? One of the most valuable items in the game.
Also, how to deal with perfect items vs. weaker ones? Find the statistical probability of getting a high roll vs. a low roll? Because if stats are truly randomized, a Perfect Paladin Torch would be worth the same, statistically, as the lowest Druid Torch.
Have you been banned? Have you seen the ban screen? Because the ban screens I have seen say "Your account has been closed (8)" for an account ban, "Your connection has temporarily been restricted from this realm, Please try to log on at another time" for a temp ban and a CD-Key ban seems to say "Your CD key is disabled from realm play", according to the Blizzard support website. My message is none of those, and doesn't even resemble any of them. Please don't post fiction as fact. If you aren't sure, say so.
EDIT: Poking around the support website, I didn't even find that error message. Odd.
That's simple, they know the exact drop rate of each item. And they know the drop rate of gold. To find the item value all they would have to do is match the 2 to each item. Or like my example before, 1 hour to get a specific item should equal roughly 1 hour of gold farming (on average).
So we're assuming all characters have equal kill rate? We're assuming all runs will be done with equal frequency? Runes have a good drop rate from Countess, but you get more runs of Baal. Does that mean Runes are still worth less, since they have a high drop rate?
Large mobs are the easiest way to get gold. End-bosses are the easiest way to get good uniques. Berserk Barbarians are very good at killing single opponents, but pale in comparison to a meteorb sorceress when killing swarms, so the sorceress gets gold faster. Does that inflate the prices, since more gold is coming in? What if the sorceress can get gold faster than the barbarian can get equal valued items?
How do you gold farm if prices are set by how much gold farming is done? The best way to get gold is selling items, not picking up piles. But, if selling items is how you farm gold, and you set the value by how much gold you farm, isn't that a self-referential loop?
P.S. I wanna talk about whether or not the demons in Diablo 3 will have facial expressions.
Or course, if it weren't for crafting materials and Epic Flying Mounts, the economy would probably be similar to Diablos. As it is, WoW has managed to find end-game money sinks. I wonder what Diablo 3 will have?
This would of course assume Blizzard is able to accurately judge the worth of an item. Also, it would force manual price setting, as anything automated could be easily abused.
I can has spoiler warnings? Seriously man I do not need to know where to get what before I even get into the game. Most games are playable without all that "knowledge" just fine.
Sorry about that, but imo these are exactly the kind of spoilers you want to know in advance.
Well a new router can cause a lot of trouble, believe me.
I would suggest forwarding the ports that Diablo needs for multiplayer, also recheck your firewall and other antivirus programs.
If those programs got updates they might just have messed up and started blocking Diablo.
It seems to me that the game simply can not connect to battle.net.
Although I tried running it with it in the exceptions, and running it with my antivirus off, and no firewalls running, it did not work. My ports are already forwarded, as far as Diablo 2.
Some other things that might help (even though the above are more likely to do so):
- Reinstall the game, as a file might have been changed. (Virus, idiot children, a mod you forgot about etc.)
I am the idiot child Also, this occurred after a totally clean install. There was no Diablo 2, I installed it, I opened it and went to battle.net. It, oddly enough, downloaded the newest patch, then wouldn't let me connect and displayed the error above.
- Throw kitties at your computer screen.
Willing to try anything at this point...
So, to recap, I installed Diablo 2 using the disks I had lying around. I proceeded to then install Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction using my disk. both were installed using the disks themselves and the 16-digit CD key on the packaging, not the Blizzard downloader. I then opened Diablo 2: LoD and clicked on the battle.net option. It downloaded the patch and prompted me to restart Diablo 2. I did so, and clicked on Battle.net again. It gave the above error. I clicked on it again, and it gave the generic "Cannot connect to Battle.net" message. I changed realms, and it gave the above error. A second attempt on this second realm gave the generic response again. Switching back to the first realm, I tried again, got the above error and gave up that. I have tried with the firewall and antivirus disabled, with no changes. At that point, I made this thread and downloaded Median XL, a mod that only changes the patch.mpq file, and have been playing that since.
IIRC: If scour through google some you can find a couple of cd-keys to use if you want to install the game, but they don't work on B.net, like they were made with a keygen only to bypass the cdkey safeguard. I think that was the message I recieved when I did that a couple of years ago. Can't really vouch for it, but it sure sounds like it.
That might be it, if it wasn't for the fact that I copied it directly from my case.
When they are really old, and are done, someone posts a completely useless post that only serves to ressurect (hence necro) a useless thread. Known other places as a 'bump'.

This is also my first Rush concert, and Moving Pictures being my favourite album, it's pretty awesome.

Cool story, bro.
