Actually, I'd really like D3 to be in "first person". Call it "D3 in 3D".
Remember that "Grand Theft Auto" 1 & 2 were both "overhead" view games, but it wasn't until GTA3 in first person that it really took off.
All versions of Doom are in first person. All versions of Unreal Tournament are in first person. Driving/Racing games in "overhead view suck while "Need for Speed" in first person is the "box office champ".
If people *really* want the overhead view, make it an option. That would be pretty cool.
I understand what you mean but an outside cam view is not called first person but third person. In first person view the character's own view is being simulated so you don't see "yourself" but only the sword or gun you're carrying for example. Third person view mode is when the camera is outside of the playingcharacter; this can be behind following the character or can also be in overhead view. So defining the persons view mode of a game does in fact not yet define the overview mode.
For Diablo's gameplay a first persons view mode is inpossible. Taken the amount of enemies you have to deal with at once, a kind of external cam overview is necesary and most probably a close behind character view mode would either not be playable in Diablo.
If Diablo would have be in FP/ TP mode it would be a whole different kind of game. How can cast spells on groups of enemies if the show up behind eachother. You need a bit of overview with large battlefields.

First, regarding the view, you need to read a little more closely. I think that is what I said... unless you consider Doom, GTA3 and UT to be "third person".
As for "impossible", it is no more "impossible" for D3 to be in first person than it is for UT or Doom. Why can they have "enemies everywhere" yet be in 1P and not Diablo?

Grand Theft Auto 3, if thats what you mean by GTA3 is definitely NOT a first person viewed game. Cmon, have you even played that game?
Shooters like Doom, Unreal are but not GTA, they never have been.
But, so you want to play Diablo in first person I understand. First person mode will improve the spooky effect but in my opinion not be better in gameplay. You will have no overview on your team players for example. And from this view only a horinzontal view is possible so like I said it will be difficult to aim your spells on groups of monsters if they are behind eachother. Besides if you are viewing from the characters own view you dont see the class itself.
A switchable view mode would be an option like in Hellgate London will be the case. But not only from first person.
1st person in Diablo universe would really ruin the overall game atmosphere (will make it feel like a different game) and make 99% of the Diablo fans pissed. Not to mention Blizzard doesnt like that kind of changes anyways (look at Warcraft series. kept the comic-like graphics, made it 3d to keep up with the latest releases).
Exactly, first person only is an insane thought for a Diablo game. Though since it will be 3d, some different camera angles and custom options like a switch to fp view would be something to add optionally.
Btw I dont hope the new Diablo will go down the same changes as Warcraft did from WCIII to WoW-3D. I'm not impressed by this 3D conversion but maybe thats just the style of it.
I havent actually. I only got in once with serveremulation crack to see what it looks like. Maybe I should play it a while to get used to it and see some more of the world. Where can I download a demo with trial account?
Who knows I get addicted to it then I have something play untill D3 will be reallity.
Right now Im playing God of War on PS2; one of the best third person action games on playstation. You play Kratos a barbarion who actually looks very much the same as the one in D2. On your way you also aquire skills and get to activated or update them by finding red orbs by killing demons, open chests and break stuff. Its a really cool none-stop action game and not easy too. It has some good puzzling like tombraider / Soulreaver and with every skill you activate you also get another set of combo attack moves, so there are plenty of ways to fight your enemies everytime.
Hell, keep it old Diablo2 style. Im guessing Diablo3 is gona be masive online multiplay...(mmoprg) and full on 3d is gona lag like crazy sigh... I would rather better gameplay and no lag then super top of the range 3D. However if yes it is suped up 3d.. i would still play...
hell no mmorpg, hell no mmorpg, hell no mmorpg,.. *protesting*. Hey do we have a say in if D3 will be mmorpg?... I mean... We’re the ones who are gona be playing it. Do you recon Blizz reads these forums?
why does everyone here hate mmorpg's so much? The way I see it, D2 is the game that launched a thousand mmo's; showing that online gaming can sell very well.
I mean, if you've ever played an mmorpg, you know that D2's battle.net realms are VERY similar to mmorpg's and, though it plays and looks a little different, Diablo 2 is absolutely massively multiplayer. 50000 + players online daily (east) some 5+ years after the game was released? Pretty massive. Oh, and you can bet that Diablo 2 is an RPG (actually, the definition of an action rpg).
So, if Diablo 3 IS an mmorpg, then it could easily feel similar to D2 (of course, without the offline play, and with a possible monthly fee).
on a side note, you can bet that if D3 is in production, the isometric camera angle is not going to be making a return... I mean, seriously, full 3D is just better. It's 5 years later and WoW (and countless other diablo clones) have shown that true 3D can be done very well, and while the static camera angle can make graphics look better, that's only because those textures are a sort of "fake" 3d, in that they're flat and take up less space and performance.
I love D2 the way it is... but World of Diablo would rule... I mean, D2 was basically a mmo (economy, multiplayer, although limited to 8 people per room, and periodic updates from blizz). Think about it... it would still rock hard... probably more than some rehash that looks just like d2 with better graphics and a longer story line. 5 years later... look for a REAL sequel, not another expansion pack with a new number.
Mmm yeh true maybe your right. However Fake 3D did the job for me back in the day. I read blizzards mission statement or something I can’t remember and it said that all new games would be full 3D. I can imagine D3 being mmorpg, But I also still like the old idea of Single Player... and having a choice between massive online and single play. One thing which ruins a game is lag... I can see diablo3 being laggy as hell to most users.
Diablo2 starting online play? yes and no, I used to play Age of Empires etc on msn's Zone many many years ago... there were heaps of users, clans, tournaments. Thats what started online gaming for me - I loved it too:)
o hell yea, static camera angles and d2's hybrid 2d/3d engine looked great, and still do in my opinion. I'm not raggind d2, it's quite possibly my favorite game ever, but I'm just being realistic, ya know? I didnt know that about the mission statement, btw, and that makes sense...
And I didnt mean that d2 started the whole online thing, and mmorpg's had been around for years before diablo (Ultima Online is getting really old now, isnt it?).
and you have a point about lag... along with games like Hellgate: London, Diablo 3 (which I believe IS in development, mostly because of the info on this site) will require MANY people, including me, to buy new computers/ hardware. And broadband... cant forget highspeed internet... I play WoW (which, though not as good as D2 was in it's day, is an amazing game) on full settings (minus AA) with little or no clientside lag. serverside lag is inevitable, but VERY rare, as blizz has put lotsa cash into their servers... so, if you got a decent comp, good internet, and a little patience, lag shouldnt be a problem anymore
yeh i want to try find that mission statement, i can remember reading it somewere on the blizz site. I wouldent mind having another look at it. But would it affect D3, cause its being made with someone different within blizz? i dunno.
they'll prolly follow Titan Quests example in matter graphics but will make it darker than that. Static camera able to zoom in and out. I wouldnt expect Blizzard to make a Diablo mmog anytime soon. They said they'd support WoW for at least 5 years from release (2nd running now) and they also said they'll definitely make more single player games.
I also dont think that converting it into 3d would change anything about the gameplay or the kind of the game that comes out.
so, if you got a decent comp, good internet, and a little patience, lag shouldnt be a problem anymore
on WoW im not sure... but d2 lol i have a good comp dsl... so i lack in the patiance depo and i have lagg out the ass... 4k+ spikes... it took me a total of 5 minutes to do a countess run in norm with mh with a lvl 75 sorc... tele 3 times go back 3

If you ever meet a hafling and a hungry dragon you dont have to outrun the dragon, you only have to outrun the hafling.
i think Diablo 3 will be released in a couple of years max. after the WoW expansion release they'll announce the 2 games they have under development and i'm pretty sure they're gonna be Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2. Both as the games before. Hack & Slash RPG and RTS.
