Well of course it has to be 3rd person. First person games aren't very successful any more... First person is only good for shooter games now, but that has now gotten old and not many people like first person shooters... It's sad. I love good first person shooters because it's realistic... It feels like your in the game, you can't see behind you like you can't in real life. You don't have some camera floating behind you all the time in reality so that's why I like first person shooter games. But in this case with Diablo. With the hack and slash, it has to be 3rd person.

I think the WC3 style would work nicely for it. However, the camera should be locked onto your character, and should allow free rotation. Basically, a D2 environment rendered in WC3 graphics.
Obviously. I forgot to mention that. Smoother models and environments. And since in a few years, when this game makes it into the mainstream, the hardware people will use, will be more than enough to handle WC3+gfx improvements, at least for the majority of players.
Bah. I'm pretty sure it will be released sometime in 2007. Maybe towards the end... Probobly early 2008 at the latest. Depending on how blizzard feels the importance of releasing the game is. They might not feel like it will benifit them at this time.

I think that the game should be 2D like it always has been but make two teams. One side Heaven the other side Hell. This way there is more pvp involved but you still get the same Diablo game we all know and love.
The only thing i didn't like about D2 was the fact that i couldn't zoom in/out or rotate the camera. A 3d enviroment would only add depth and could be done without losing gameplay values. I like the W3 style idea.
As for making Diablo a mmo, just a stupid idea. You would desrtoy all the elements that make Diablo well Diablo. You would lose the huge mobs, there is no way that an mmo could implement huge mobs like we had in D1/D2. Unless they made it all instanced; witch would destroy many mmo elements. The thing that would probably suck the most about a Diablo mmo, THERE WOULD BE NO MAGIC FIND. There is no way any mmorpg would give its players an ability like magic find. MMO's are all about the grind; they dont want you to get gear easy they want ayou to grind hours on end for it. The more time you play the more money they get. Magic find was my fav. i loved my D2 magic find sorc. The fact is there would be nothing Diablo in a Diablo mmo, at least game play wise.
I've never played neverwinter nights, but if the camera style in it is anything like I think it is, I would have to agree with you guys when it comes down to Diablo III having to be 3D. Diablo III is and needs to be full 3D. It's still going to have the core gameplay. And if you don't like the game just because of that then maybe your not a true diablo fan. Maybe your just a classic gaming fan and only prefer 2D games. Well that's fine because I am a classical fan myself, but if I found a newer version of an old game, I'm probobly going to enjoy it still. For those of you that never want to play a 3D Diablo, then just keep playing D2 and get bored of that especially when everyone upgrades to Diablo III. lol

What about this . when your up to baal ,diablo...etc.. Have the game in 3D when you are killing them...? Back too 2d in the rest of the game. 3D like dungeon siege is very resticted in the path your take, and once you set your angles , its the same as 2D then.
Advanced d2 graphics would be nice for d3, but if anything i think they'll be more along the lines of Titan Quest since most games comming out now are of the 'next generation' which is insanely good 3d graphics that i could never run on my computer...

For anyone wonder if D3 would look good in 3D should just realise that all artwork (scenes, characters, object, maps, architecture) is original created in 3D but for the sprite based engine of Diablo II, rendered to 2D animated bitmaps from different angles.
So you could actually recreate the same game with the same models in a 3D engine and put the 3d camera in the same coordinates a from where the bitmaps are rendered. This would leave you with just pretty much the same game but in 3D and the abillity to zoom in as in Titan Quest.
The only differce in creating the 2D and 3D version would be that in the 2d version they didn't had to worry about polycount because everyting would be rendered to small resolution animations. In 3D the current created models should probably have less polygons in order to keep the framerate acceptable on current homepc's.
So, since everything was already designed in 3D it's not like recreating a 2D world of drawings into a 3D world like for example Super Mario 8-bit to Super Marion 64, allthough I think that is in fact one of the most succesfull 2D to 3D conversions and Metal Gear as well.
So with the 3D knoledge they already had at Blizzard it would only take a new engine, a new story and new concepts for character classes, monsters and the world; the technique is not to worry about!
Blizzard would not make a game with 2D graphics.
A combo of both yes because it would be something somewhat original as long as they make it look great and it would make the all the D2 fans feel at home But however they make it, they are obviously going to use the best technology they have at their disposal.
By the time the game comes out most people with AGP vid cards could probably get like and agp 6800 or even 7800 from nvidea for cheap.

AGP doesn't have much room for improvement, as opposed to SLI. And ATI and nVidea are already going back to that with Crossfire and Quad SLI technology. Just putting that out there.
No i mean most people who played D2 or all of them will have agp vid cards as opposed to the new PCI express (not SLI thats a whole different thing that Nvidea made). To upgrade your going to have to change your whole computer to the new PCI-E format it's quite expensive and you would be better off just buying a whole new computer and not eveyone has the liberty. I was saying for those ppl with agp to be able to play those high quality games and possibly D3 they could just buy a good agp card. But it's a shame because for the same price as the good agp card you can get twice as much with PCI-E.
And they already have quad cards
