Hardcore is like the ultimate gameplay experience when you just want to play the crap out of the game and still get satisfaction out of it. It is just better for any true/ultimate fan.
No, no it shouldnt, could you imagine the crap blizzard would have to put up with when someone dies in HC due to server lag after they bought something for money from blizzards RMAH? I 100% totally understand and agree with them on that.. it would be horrible for them.
You still run the same risk regardless... There's not a valid reason not to allow it... Anyone playing HC knows risks they run... Anyways, server side crashes do not cause deaths, being that the client (the game) server side, is in fact frozen, meaning npc's stop AI. Been playing D2 HCC since I can remember playing D2, and I've never once seen a server side game crash result in a player death.
edit - I WANT a RMAH on HC because of the fact there will A L W A Y S be a premium on top tier items due to the fact that there WILL in fact be player deaths, and item deletion, thus keeping the value high, and a chance to make some good cash while enjoying the game... People still paypal for D2 HCC items $100+ bucks for a solid item ie 304 martel I found... I mean that's 2 hours of real work for me but still, why not make some dough enjoying the game? I really think it'd be good for the HC economy to be honest.
I didnt say crash, I said lag, and the server can indeed lag (fail to send packets while its still calculating) yes people have died to this.
And when people spend real money on this, they will complain BIG time to blizzard, we all know what the community is like over there. I 100% understand blizzards stance on this.
Next hardcore is a lot more... competitive than softcore. So buying stuff with real money.. kills the edge on that (gold you must earn yourself in game, its basic trading, while money is not) [Granted Im not one of the people that care if people buy gear with real money, but I totally understand why in HC people would no like that]
If you take the time to find a few of the blue posts on this, they go into more detail about why its a bad idea for them to allow this. [I did a quick search but couldnt find it, dont feel like doing a long search =P]
to your edit: I Agree with you a 100% that selling items in HC would be the best way to make money, and its one of the reaosn im sad about not being able to play HC if I want to earn real money, but I still understand their reasons.
It's cool... Different minds think differently. I guess I just see it as an opportunity for my crew and I to enjoy HC a lil more than we already do. Honestly if someone is willing to pay for an item on HC, they know what they're getting into... there's nothing for them to complain about. They know beforehand the potential risks of their decisions, or so we would hope. Anyway, there's nothing wrong for someone paying real $ for another person's time spent finding the item or what have you, the same way it's a valid idea for SC. D2 JSP is just going to remain priority for HC items being sold, which is unfortunate. HC items will surely remain at a premium, and SC items will quickly dive in price, and it'll be a penny auction within 6 months due to the fact thousands, if not millions of items will be in circulation, without deletion... and a waste of a damn good idea.
I think you think to highly of some of the gaming community tbh. You say " They know beforehand the potential risks of their decisions". But thats not going to stop them from complaining..and when that happens, it just causes to much work for them.
But I think we are both in agreement on why it would be nice to have, thats for sure. (Like I said, its one of the reasons I wont be paying HC as much)
But after reading the other posts, I just feel for blizz and understand where they are coming from.
but Like I said, I think we agree why we want it =P
=) yo I'm out 30 y/o w/ tattoo on eye wants to go out, and I ain't above it... so I'm sure you and I will be humping these forums tomorrow while I do homework (I HATE college)... lata, enjoy your evening/day wherever you are~
Yes the only difference, as stated by these fine folks, is that if you die once your character is caput - oh and the lack of the RMAH because Blizzard wanted to avoid the issues caused by people spending money on items only to lose them 2 minutes later.
Edit:
Wow I just read your comment Shades...
So you're the type who feels that all true gamers should feel the same way as you. You insult everyone who disagrees with you by merely posting, and you don't even care that you do so...
Blizzard didn't really have a choice re: rmah in hc. As mentioned before, including one would cause a thousand and one headaches for blizzard/battle.net for item refunds over lag.
It certainly won't stop people from making real money transactions in HC though. They'll just resort to private paypal payments for items. Furthermore, it wouldn't surprise me if the tip top tier items in the game didn't go on the rmah at all. If there are single items valued at hundreds of dollars I would certainly expect them to be traded privately.
Staying on topic, the other major difference being dueling mechanics is still very unknown. Originally Jay Wilson said hc dueling is HARDCORE, 1 life. Then saying HC players may access the team deathmatch modes? I certainly hope not *squint*
I am very curious as to the (and if there is any) difference in playing hardcore over softcore. I know you can only die once as a hardcore char(character); what I was actually interested in was if you get better loot, more drops, better drops?
Also, are hardcore items only usable by hardcore chars?
In several videos it has been said that Hardcore will not only be more difficult in terms of bosses such as tactics and dmg output but certain drops will be Hardcore only, as incentive to look different and be a cut above. I don't remember which videos but if you scan through some of the more recent ones produced by Blizzard you will hear it for yourself... HC...... THE ONLY WAY TO BE =)
I think special HC only drops is a great idea. that way HC players can show off their hard work. this is coming from someone who plays softcore but has a lot of respect for HC players.
I think HC only drops and other stuff is a horrible idea.
Why? I KNOW I'm a good enough player for Hardcore. It wouldn't be something I couldn't do, I just wouldn't ENJOY it. One of the things I find the most fun is seeing just how much I can take at once. That's not something I could do with hardcore. Hardcore removes a lot of exploration from the game. You have to be very conservative, which just isn't how I, and many others, like to play this game. The other aspect that I hate in hardcore is that I just find myself completely detached from my character. Why? Because I know eventually I'm gonna lose it so I just don't bother getting attached to it. Which also takes a huge element of the game away.
I think Hardcore should be just what it is - a way to play the game with increased tension for people who like it. Giving them exclusives punishes people for liking different playstyles.
I first started playing softcore or softc*** <-- figure it out for your self lol... When I began playing D2, just like everyone else..
However after my friend got me into playing Hardcore, the threat that your char only had 1 life, just like we have IRL, was too good to pass up. To be able to have a high lvl and powerful hardcore char that had yet to die always kept me on my toes. It made me feel like I accomplished something meaningful as I guided this hero through dangerous areas and lived to talk about it. Yes the occasional lagspike / internet problem / computer issues aside... Didn't damper my spirit as I never wanted to go back.
Hardcore was just sooooo much more than the original game, always keeping you on the edge of your seat, having to react and adapt to the situation at hand. Where as in softcore you could just die, leave game get corpse back. sure u lost gold / durability / experience points... YOU CAN GET THOSE BACK EASILY...
You die in hardcore, your inventory / stash / merc gear was all GONE, if you allowed someone to loot your corpse you could only get back the items / gear you were wearing. You knew the risks and the dangers, yet you still played. Heck even this season teleporting around on my bo Barb with 6K HP and landing next to fanatcism Death lords with the extra fast mechanic still scares the hell out of me(Others might ask well why didn't u go around? well I've chosen to not use any hacks since 1.09 NONE). I didn't need any cause I was more experienced than I was back in 1.09.
I didn't get as good as I am today without practice. Countless hours mfing, lvling up, playing with mates, slaughtering god knows how many cows(all that beef gone to waste... damn shame) of course even I had the occasional death.
My very first death in D2 HC was on a bowazon in 1.09, I was in the bloody foothills, those used to give decent xp back in those days. I ended up dying to a bloody catapult... Yes a stupid Catapult... What the hell I was a newbie to HC after all. I was shocked that I could of been so careless, not watching my health globe or my surroundings(I think I ran over alot of those mine things or w/e they are). This is what you DID NOT WANT TO EVER SEE!!!!
I knew the 2 players that died, I wasn't there when this happened. They died due to how damage was calculated... FELE Lister bug.
However my resolve was strong and I wasn't going to give up that easily, I had demons to vanquish and uber loot to obtain! My Quest continued.
Hardcore = One life. One death = game over, not buts. Your char is forever gone. Don't like it? Get over it.
And of course there is no RMAH, too many nubs will complain they spent $20 bucks on a piece of gear and then go and die and never see that money again.
Don't ask if this is finallized or that you need a source. This is how it has always been and always will be in the Diablo franchise
I think HC only drops and other stuff is a horrible idea.
Why? I KNOW I'm a good enough player for Hardcore. It wouldn't be something I couldn't do, I just wouldn't ENJOY it. One of the things I find the most fun is seeing just how much I can take at once. Clearly someone who has never played HC but just likes to pretend he did.
Not getting attached to your character?
pffft
I had a level 98 fury druid on HCWL season 2 that I still reminisce about. I can't tell you how he died anymore, but I can tell you exactly what he was wearing when he died and that was like 6+ years ago.
How many times when you died on SC did you feel absolutely crushed maybe even shut the game off and went to bed just to come back and make a new character with the determination to do it better this time?
Hardcore removes exploration from the game?
hahah if you're gonna pretend you played HC at least put more thought into it.
HC encouraged exploration
How many times did you just run past the cave, the pit, level 2 of the underground passage, the hole, and both the crypts in the graveyard? I imagine far more often then the average HC player and that was just in act 1. Now why would a HC player go into these places? The extra experience of course.
With the added threat of death you wanted to make sure your character was as high level as possible before facing any end act boss.... Especially Duriel... that cold aura dick. How did you get that extra experience? By exploring.
The only bad effect I suffered of playing HC that I imagine most players also did that you didn't even mention was an extreme paranoia. Can't tell you how many hell baal runs I would see a necromancer join and would immediately tp out as soon as I saw the first bone spirit cast.
HC Players are a breed apart. I am clearly biased but I fully support HC only drops and the reasoning is obvious. Especially considering HC in Diablo 3 will be even more perilous then in Diablo 2 due to the leave game count down and the 10 second cast town portal.
I will be playing mostly Hardcore. The only time I play Softcore is when I play with some members of my clan.
I would prefer if there was no extra items for Hardcore mode. Then we will get complaints from softcore players that HC mode is too easy since we have better drops, and that it is unfair to them since they do not get the drops.

Everyone plays HC differently, we all have different goals. I tried it a few times but I never got too attached to my characters, I actually played it in about the same way as I played SC, but that doesn't mean that I can't appreciate the challenge of HC. I think it is wrong to say that "this is how HC should be" or "unless you think this way you are not a real HC player", even if I would like to apply the very same logic to everyone that rushed in SC.
As far as HC only drops go I am against it. I mean what is the point of locking content away from those who prefer to play SC? I'm almost expecting someone to reply to this with a "HC is better and the childish SC players aren't playing the real Diablo, so we should get exclusive content!" ... How can anyone say how a game is supposed to be played? How can someone claim that one way (their way) of playing is better than someone else's, and that because their way is better they should be favored. Since the majority prefers SC it would make more sense if Blizzard made SC only content, but that doesn't make sense either and would only serve to piss off HC players.
I say give everyone the same content, no one deserves more or less.
Inb4 HC master race.
I agree with you no mode should have special gear. I can see special achievements or trophies to show on the character/player profile but no special gear. That was one of the things I did not like in D2 ladder/non ladder/ single player modes. They all should have the same gear.

I agree as well, HC IS badass, and props to those people (i'm def going to try it) who can max level and survive inferno runs, whilst simultaneously supplying great revenue to deodorant companies =)
BUT, I disagree on HC only drops. That makes me feel that I'm wasting time on my SC char with my friends just because I don't want to play this one character hard core. Pretty much makes me feel I HAVE to go HC or why even make a toon, since no matter how much time I put into it, it CAN'T be the best.
Keep hardcore as badass as it is, but don't separate the drops.
Hardcore is more fun, and in my opinion you learn more about the game that way...
I can remember when Diablo 2 LoD first came out I was on my WW Barb(lance at the time was best) and I WW straight into baals minnions and died lol cause Life leech had been nerfed and I didn't know it
Yes dieing sucked and losing my gear sucked, but I was determined to make another character that was even better...HC is just more fun atleast to me.
