So basically there is a new gem that drops from the boss in the goblin realm. The gem gives you a 25% chance for a "gold explosion" when you kill an enemy. At level 25 picking up gold grants 30% movement speed bonus. Pairing this up with gear like goldwrap etc can be pretty OP, especially in greater rifts. (Goldwrap gives you armor based on gold picked up for 5 secs.)
I don't have the gear to farm high difficulties yet (season 3 PTR), however I am finding about 100k every 30 seconds to a minute.
Will update again when I reach higher difficulties and greater rifts and explain the amount of gold found, as well as protection from the goldwrap once I found that as well.
The video shows me running a few maps with the gem equipped, and as you can see gold literally does explode EVERYWHERE.
Hope it doesn't get nerfed. This is the kind of "off the wall" stuff I'd like to see further explored. Things that are a little further out of the box than %damage increase etc...
Things like this can simply be fun AND helpful at the same time. Is there really a lot of gold dropping in GRifts? I thought the bulk of it was at the Rift Gurdian kills? (Not on the PTR myself, so genuinely asking).
I think hope that the devs understand that what has been the most fun for a lot of people since RoS is getting that one oddball item that completely changes how a person plays. It is a careful balance of "Wow, that is oddly fun to play" and "OMG everyone needs to get one!!!" As long as there are enough of these type of fun items then each person has fun with the certain few (or maybe just one) that RNG blesses them with. Gems like this and others should make variety of play more common. Sure there will always be BiS for strict DPS reasons, but oddball effects like this are generally fun as well.
For the longest time on my DH I ran with a Cluckeye bow, and the main factor was the damage, it rolled crazy high, but it WAS fun to use. The chickens flying and the sounds. I still use it on my scoundrel.
Fun stuff is just fun though, And fun needs to find its way into the game more often.
Eidt:, as for the gold issue, the goblin realm (Greed) can drop millions in your lap very quickly. (I should be so lucky). Got up to 11 million once...I have a full roster of toons and that is expensive.
well so far its honestly not too overpowered in lower difficulty. I seem to have JUST enough gold to craft what I want to get by (which... may be a little more than average.)
Just entering the torments so we'll see how the gold scales from there.
Second, I'm not hurting for money and I still want that. I'm thinking that gem + T4/5/6 (assuming the drops scale) + the bracers + Keeps runs could result in some serious cash and paragon XP gains.
Because yoy're lying dead on the game floor...from too much gold not enough defense/damage.
I could see a build around picking up gold, for speed and armor most certainly. It is a viable game mechanic.
One legendary gem does not exactly make you suddenly unable to handle T6, if you were able to handle T6 with the 500-ish int that got replaced with a socket.
A build could definitely be made around it. Still doesn't change the fact that if the gold from the current version of the gem scales with gold find, it would be absolutely broken. Trivializing an entire aspect of the game is not something they are going to do, at least not intentionally and not for long.
Has anyone even tested to see if that gem works in a Grift? The drop suppression may also apply to that gem affix.
i believe that all drops are dissabled in Grifts (with exception of boss) so i guess it wont work at all but i dont know exact mechanics. and dont have gem
do Gladiator gauntlets work in Grifts ? seems like same kind proc

The new legendary gems are going to mean there are going to be lots, LOTS of people able to run T6. The new gems make it easier for T6 and for others to advance into the 30+ greater rifts. This gem, if used on T6, will not compromise the capabilities of most players, so it will be a way to replenish gold. If the average player base gets too much gold, they could add another gold sink.
