Was there a drop rate nerf in terms of quality since 1.0.3a?
I played hardcore after 1.0.3 was launch and the drop rate was what I'm used to.
Then I stopped playing for a week. During this time 1.0.3a was released.
When I started playing again I noticed a significant decrease in magical (blue) item drops from elite packs. In fact I even got an champ pack where NO blues dropped. They were all white items. Also I have been noticing several times where only 1 blue item would drop instead of 2 blue items.
So again, was there a quality drop rate nerf thanks.
"Unique" Monsters -- Those are NOT elite packs. Unique Monsters are the ones with their name in purple. Elites (Blue name) and Champions (Yellow name) should still drop their usual blues.

Can't tell if trolling or genuinely ....
And what was wrong with what he said? He is correct, unique monsters are the purple named ones. They used to drop two magic items every time they were killed, 1.0.3 changed that so they no longer did. Elites/Champs still dropped at least 2 magic items when killed, maybe more, and with 5 NV stacks, at least 1 rare, maybe more.

Uniques are indeed the ones with purple names. I always call the blue named "champs" and the yellow named "rares". I'm sure there's a better explanation over on some Diablo wiki or similar site.

if you took a week off that means you played hardcore for 1 day as 1.0.3 was only released last week (19th for US, 20th for EU) so 1 day is hardly time to "get used" to any type of drop rate
Ok I don't know why I came onto the forums to ask this question because clearly people here are freakishly dumb. Yes I played 2 days of hardcore. But i played a months of softcore. I know what how drop rates are before and after any patch. This is because you are guaranteed 2 blues per special mob pack prior to 1.0.3a...kind of hard to overlook that. After 1.0.3a, not guaranteed to drop 2 blues. I highly doubt the drop rates on normal hc is different from normal sc. Did I really have to spell this out for you? And FFS the patch affects drops rates of INFERNO AND HELL ONLY.
Drop rates were not touched at any point in the game prior to Act 3/4 of Hell difficulty (where they were improved).
Drop rates of ilevel 62/63 gear in Act 3/4 Inferno were technically nerfed, but will be fixed in the next day or so with 1.0.3b.
Champions
- Blue guys (as they were called in Diablo 2)
- Count towards the achievements "The Takedown", "Not So Tough Now" and "Champion's Collection"
- Give 1 stack of Nephalem Valor, guaranteed 1 rare drop at 5-stacks.
Rares
- Yellow guys (1 elite leader, with a pack of minions sharing most of his powers)
- Count towards the achievements "Keep It Rare", "Rarin' to Go" and "A Rare Phenomenon"
- Give 1 stack of Nephalem Valor, guaranteed 1 rare drop at 5-stacks.
Uniques
- Guys that glow yellow but got a purple name and no listed powers.
- Count towards the achievements "Never Seen That Before", "Special Snowflakes" and "A Unique Collection"
- Does NOT give 1 stack of Nephalem Valor, guaranteed 1 blue drop on death (after 1.0.3 but prior to 1.0.3a they almost exclusively dropped gold only, this was an unintended bug and has been fixed)
Elites
- Umbrella category for all the above 3 sub-groups
- Kills of any enemy of the 3 sub-groups is counted towards the achievements "Among The Elite", "The Elitist", "Elitist Bubble", "Elitist Jerks", and "Elitist Few".

1. His post doesn't even answer the question. It doesn't matter whether we're talking about "elites," "champs," or "uniques". We can agree that they all have the same drop rate.
2. If we're going to go into this. "uniques" or "rare bosses" are actually the yellow ones. "Champions" are actually the blue mobs. Anyone who has played d2 knows this. Also this is confirmed in Diablowiki.
3. Again there is no distinct difference in item drop rate between champion packs and unique packs. So who cares about the difference in their sames? As farm as I'm concerned, they're all "rare" "unique" "champ" "boss" "special" packs
Thank you zeroedge. You answered my question while fully understanding my question. Although I still feel like it's a crazy coincidence that prior to 1.0.3a, every special pack was dropping 2 blues and after 1.0.3a, that changed. Coincidental? probably. Thanks

1. Wrong. Uniques are different and DID have a different drop rate as of 1.0.3, see the post above yours. Purple names are different.
2. No. Uniques are the purples, I don't care what you called them in D2, in D3 the unique name matters and its the purple guys. Again, see above.
3. Wrong. There was a distinct difference between Uniques and Champs/Rares as of 1.0.3.
See. People answer your questions, and you reject the answers as incorrect, when you were incorrect.

1: No, they do not actually. Uniques are different from Champions, Rares, and Bosses.
2: Yes, they are, but Rares and Uniques, while they both glow yellow, are different. A Unique's name is in pruple, and he has a title, no listed powers (though they can still have powers). A Rare's name is in yellow and he has listed powers.
3: Yes, there is a difference. The fact that Uniques were changed and Champions/Rares were not is proof as to why. Plus Uniques are not affected by Nephalem Valor in any way.
Guys.... guys... seriously. I'm talking about NORMAL DIFFICULTY. Okay zeroedge, I understand my ignorance between uniques and rares... I was solely talking about champs and rares (i guess since reading your informative post). And between champs and rares on NORMAL difficulty you're going to tell me that there's a difference in drop rates of items? Again let me just copy and paste the patch notes for 1.0.3 again.
Unique monsters in Hell and Inferno difficulty are no longer guaranteed to drop two Magic items when slain

Also, read the 1.03 patch notes. Elite packs and bosses no longer guarantee 2 magical+ drops.
I forgot to mention that I'm in normal difficulty. As far as I know, the 2 magic item nerf only affects hell and inferno

Is there something I am missing? I also noticed that there are a lot less magical items on the GAH in hardcore from a week ago.
