I just dropped a lot of coin upgrading all the gems I've been picking up...and it costs some serious coin. Anyone think its cheaper just to buy gems on the AH? Or are people making gold doing this?
I've been upgrading gems up to flawless squares since the patch, since that doesn't cost much at all these days (though tomes of jewelcrafting appear to have skyrocketed in price because of people doing this).
Beyond that, I just upgrade what I need with my own stock. Logically that'll be the cheapest option (since if it's cheaper to buy gems on the AH, whoever is selling is losing money), but then you never know. There are certainly some silly people out there.
Could be worth having a check of the AH to see if the gem you need is on there before crafting it, and which option is cheaper.
I don,t really now for radiant stars, but crafting a radiant square, costs 140k when you start from flawless squares, I'm seeing Radiant Squares in the millions/u I don,t have the plans yet too make them so I can't really say...
Usually the cost of the gem on the AH is really close to the value of the mats and combine cost after the cut, so combining your own gems will be is always going to be a little more than 15% cheaper. However, people do list gems for less than it would cost to combine them minus the cut. I've seen gems listed for even less than the cost... a lot more than you'd think to. Don't underestimate how many people out there won't do any math in a video game.
