RMAH and Inferno both break the Diablo 3 addiction for most people. Video games are addictive because you get rewarded by the time you invest. It's pure classical conditioning. The RMAH allows you to spend money to stop getting rewarded in the game. Once you spend $ on an item, you probably won't find an upgrade for a long time, hence losing the treasure hunt, which is the addictive quality of Diablo. Inferno loses its addictive quality for most gamers, because you stop getting rewarded in a timely manner. Only the sickest of the sick will sacrifice their time to get meager results. Inferno addicts are the digital equivalent to crack addicts who long forgot that they used to enjoy crack and get a high from it.
For people who are looking to play the game the way it's meant to be played, I highly suggest Hardcore.
Here's why:
#1. The community is better. For the most part, people look out for each other and stick together.
#2. You actually feel heroic when you take out a big mob of creatures and risked your life doing so.
#3. It's more social. When someone comes to your rescue, you're appreciative.
#4. The AH plays less of an influence and there are more peer to peer gifts to help each other out. Because everyone wants to survive together.
#5. It's fun. You can actually get in the mix of things and not have to kite around like a school girl, like your friends in inferno.
lmao hardcore dweeb and I bet he isn't even godry enough to stand a 60 inferno char in HC...
cool story bro. I'll stay farming and make each of my chars better by farming and putting time in to better myself in SC... EXACTLY how games is made to be played... to anyone who actually pays the asking prices on the RMAH. You're fucking stupid... haha
I just sense someone throwing in the towel cause he can't break inferno imo :/ I head LoL is a fun game BURRUHHH
Kind of weird to call people "sick" because you don't understand their notion of fun. I think the combat experience itself is fun in Diablo. It's just fun to pick a build and a playstyle then run around fighting. Yes, eventually you hit a wall where you aren't likely to find upgrades very often, but if you enjoy actually playing, it doesn't matter.
At this point I'm in inferno and I've slowed down a lot, but I still enjoying logging in and playing. If I don't find anything, it's fine because the runs are fun.
If the actual gameplay and combat isn't rewarding on its own, what's the point of the gear game? Getting gear to be better at something you don't enjoy?
Didn't know they force you to use the RMAH, news to me.
Me neither. Do you know if they force you to play inferno too?
My point is, if you're not getting enough "rewards" for your liking on Inferno, try Hardcore. It's fun.
Btw, this posting got me thinking about the game as a drug and how the RMAH ruined it for him. Consider it a cautionary tale.

You're right, I'm not at level 60 on my hard core character. And I plan on dying before getting to 60. I'd rather die than farm. But then again, maybe I'll get so attached to my Barbarian that I'll start buying him stuff at the gold AH for protection.
At the end of the day, it depends how much free time you have. If I had more disposable time, I'd probably be farming for inferno. But as it is, for limited time, Hardcore is a blast. It gives me the thrill of similar to what I'd imagine a high level trapeze artist experiences. And the farther I progress, the higher the stakes.

In short - that's BS:
1. Nobody forces you to use RMAH.
2. The fact that you got bored of softcore Inferno doesn't make it bad.
Seriously, you people (I'm talking about whinners, who create numerous "this and that is bad, I'm sick of it" threads) should realize there are more than 6 million people playing this game. Some enjoy this and others enjoy that. There's no right or wrong, good or bad in this game. There are people's preferences and nothing more.

Ez there charlie. I mean Sol The Druid. I was merely presenting another way to enjoy the game. If Inferno isn't for you, then there are some solid alternatives.
Why do you see the RMAH as such a bad thing? First of all, i love the game. I started not too long ago and never played Diablo series before and i'm not at inferno yet, but i can't wait to get to inferno farming. I actually like the idea of slow gearing.
Second thing is that i am not planning to put any of my money in to the RMAH. If every good gear that there is are going in there, then i will use it to sell gear that isn't good for me for real money and use that money to buy something i need. I do not care what the currency used in the AH is and i really do not understand why anyone else should?
It's very easy, sell your gear for real money and use those profits to buy usefull gear. Then you haven't actually "paid" for the gear you need.
I think that's an awesome way of using the AH. Basically as a way to convert your treasures into something that is specific & useable for your character. The way the RMAH can ruin the Diablo experience is if you just pour actual dollars into the auction house.

Or play Inferno in Softcore and farm your hearts out for that good drop; so you can sell in RMAH for 'real' money.
I'm making money in RMAH, and that is what motivates me to farm softcore, if there was no RMAH I would obviously go Hardcore.

I'm totally addicted to the game, really enjoy it. I was just using the metaphor of if Diablo was a drug.
