OK so i pre-downloaded diablo 3 for when it comes out does it just download the installer and the 7.60 gigs or is something else supposed to happen afterwards and also is it true that if you pre downloaded you can get collectors edition stuff
Don't think the collectors thing is true - can't see how it is. I believe if you pre-download you can basically play the game when it comes if (only if you bought one of course). However, it might install patches and other stuff when you do that.
One thing i'm wondering is if we'll have a lighter patch to download to be ready to play if we wait to be closer from launch to download the client. In other words, are they going to update the already available client before launch or does it make no difference to download now or in 3 weeks.
The collector edition will be added once you enter the code you get from inside the collector edition box. I don't think the file for the collector edition comes with the purchase of the game, at least I never heard of anything like this. Is nto like the Street Fighter where they put extra content on the disk that you purchase and it is not unlock until you pay more money for it. WHich they were planning to do as a download able content in the future, but hacker figure it out and unlocked it them self, I think blizzard will just let the blizz downloader download the file once it has confirmed that your account have had the collector edition code.

First question: No, nothing else happens. Second Question: No. The CE is not available for pre-download.
Note: Diablo 3 is an online only game. In order to play you must have a Blizznet account and Diablo 3 game key. I am assuming that most of the character files are saved on their servers and not on your computer.
What I'm pretty sure happens is once May 15th arrives, you can install the game, and it will prompt you to go online to register your key. If you bought the game online, you don't have to do that. If you just downloaded the game without preordering it online, you would just add the key from your retail (either normal or CE) and you can play.
the process i believe will be: release hits -> the installer you downloaded starts descrypting all the info it has -> the game installs -> the launcher updates what i believe is some small patch with last changes -> you play D3

All that will happen is you wont be able to login due to the fact the servers arnt online...the game "releases" at the time blizzard have said, that basically just means thats when the servers come online. Might be a little patch you might need to download a few hours before the game releases or days.
Of course, if you already have the license in your Bnet account, then you just need to install and update on whatever date they let you do it, and you're good to go. Presently, the pre-downloaded installer won't install.
Anybody can predownload the game, even if they haven't bought the game yet. All the files you downloaded are part of the installer and technically could be used to install the game right now (ignoring the definite patch), if they weren't under encryption until May 15th.
Even the Collector's Edition items are in there somewhere. That doesn't mean you'll have access to them without a Collector's Edition key, though. You need to enter the key in your Battle.Net account, at which point the items will unlock and be distributed to your characters and the other CE features will unlock.
