I can't really think of any other way that would work better than the current implementation. The perfect alternative would be to have the loot instantly drop in the inventory but that would feel like a lazy design and even take away a core aspect of Diablo.
Btw, hi forum. I am a long time reader, but now I have decided to join the community.
i am kinda loast where this topic heading towards...
so if an imp is slain by barbarian, all 4 members have chance to get items from it as if u were in a 1 man run and slain the monster u would get similar drop. all 4 can get 4 swords, 3 of them get nothing and 1 gets the sword, no sword drop for any1, or 1 gets sword 1 gets armor 1 gets quest item....
this is the idea of clearing level quicker with 4 man and looting more mobs together
Here's a way to fix this. Give every party member a color (or shape, would probably be easier to not confuse rarity), either picked themselves, randomly given, or designated by what order they joined the party. That way, everyone knows what they're getting and what Player B is getting and so on. [sarcasm] And this way, Blizzard has a premium service to get more money from the player base. Because from what I've read on these forums I know you guys LOVE the whole "Spending more than $60 on D3" thing. [/sarcasm] But really, it's fine the way it is. If it bothers you get some O.C.D. medication because yours is worse than mine.

When I grow up, I want to be a frill-necked lizard.
Everyone already can see where stuff died, so it's not a mystery where people are running off to. Wherein is the need for your system that involves one extra click if people are STILL going to be running from body to body for looting?
Allow me to explain this way in case you're a visual learner:
CURRENT SYSTEM - Party kills 15 monsters. Party runs around helter-skelter picking up loot from the bodies.
YOUR SYSTEM - Party kills 15 monsters. Party runs around helter-skelter picking up loot from the bodies.
My thoughts exactly.
Come on OP, bad nitpicking is just plain bad.
Plus, hasn't Blizzard already stated that bodies will disappear after a certain amount has accumulated on screen. I think the number is ten, so that way there aren't hundreds of bodies littering the screen, and do you know how hard it will be to go through so many bodies just to see which ones haven't been looted yet. It's an adventure game nightmare of players just standing around, moving their mouse cursors all over the screen.
No thank you, with the current system you can at least see what's on the ground so you know what you want to pick up, and don't want to pick up.
I would say add an option that allows you to show off your loot, maybe if I pick something up rare or above it displays a link in the chat window with the item name and if someone clicks it a more detailed window pops up. Now I don't know if items come up unidentified or not but if they do it could just put a link in chat that says "Rare Axe Unidentified" - Player 1. Then your friends can freak out and ask you what axe did you get. But I think it should be an optional feature so if I am in a game with random people I might not want them knowing what I got.
Just to add something, I hardly think people won't instantly pick up worthy loot as soon as it drops, blending it with the monster killing.
When I was rushing through the Blizzcon 2010 with my brother and 2 of our friends, we wouldn't even notice when the others were picking loot, because it was done almost instantly after it dropped. And both my brother and 1 of our friends never played D2 so they were pretty slow in it, and it still didn't look strange at all.

This is by far the best suggestion I have seen yet - and one that I could see Blizzard implementing.. that's if it's not already implemented. I foresee this being similar to WoW's combat information feed - how you could enable the option to see what others pick up, etc.
Welcome to Hell Difficulty....

I like it.
