There was a recent Tweet that they are not classifying their armor by material types so cloth, leather and other material names are out. They will also not be using terms like tribal or mystic since any class can wear any armor. So what names are they using? So far all we know is plate. What could these other armor types be?

I was thinking for the more "clothy" types of armour, something around the likes of "Fitted," such as "Fitted tattered vest,' and maybe all fitted armour would be the equivalent to how robes and stuff would fit you... although now that I think of it, you'd be pretty lucky to find anything that was salvaged from the corpse of a monster and have it fit you perfectly... ok what about "Loose Kilt" or? haha...And I think there is a need for armour types - you don't want everything in the game to read "Plate this" and "plate that" do you?
Oh, and all armour should have sizes. "Size 31 waist pants" - a perfect fit for the Monk, but that Barbarian should make a couple laps around the blood moor first before he can wear them. Also he will lose stamina potions. Wow, I've gone way off topic. I'm posting this before it gets any weirder...
In D2 actually the leather armor is the only one named after the actual material it's made of (if I recall correctly...) so this doesn't have to imply a major change.
Don't really see the need for armor types since there won't be runewords or ethereal quality.
It's just one more thing to add to the realistic concept of the game. IRL there are different types of weapons and different types of armor. You can call them whatever you want in the Diablo world however there should be different "types" of weapons and armor like with everything else.
Couldn't it just mean there wont be any material reference on the name of the armor?
"Gothic Armor", "Gothic Gauntlets" etc etc. Since everyone will be able to wear everything i think it's going to be the simplest and most obvious choice.
I think that's what it means. It makes sense, armor isn't usually made out of a single material, and there are only so many materials possible. I guess we'll just get names based on the sturdiness (DR) of the armor.
Well, there is gothic and plate but what would be some other names. Is it based off of quality or style? I also just remembered that there was a tweet about some animal themed ones.

Maybe some will be named after their (region of) origin. Also, the fact that each class can use each armor doesn't limit the possibilities very much. If a non-tribal character like a wizard finds a "tribal armor of the beaver", he can still wear it.
I didn't mean as an add-on to your current gear, but as an actual armour type. It does seems a bit odd to have a simple cloak protecting your body from a sharp blade, but such are the rules of roleplaying.
Do you guys think D2 has a system where armour is ordered into types? Does this tweet mean that the armour system is more Diablo-like than WoW-like?
