The tracks in d2 just added so much atmosphere and impact to an already great game. I can listen through the d2 themes on my sound system while not even playing the game and I am placed in the d2 world. It tends to be a forgotten part of the game but in my opinion a game's soundtrack is crucial to the atmosphere that the game produces. Which is why I really hope that a lot of time is spent on making sure that the soundtrack for D3 is going to be as epic as the gameplay.
I know what you mean.. the diablo series would of been alot less awesome without the soundtrack it had.
For sure it would suck if D3 had some lame-ass songs. But honestly, I think there's nothing to get worried about. Blizzard wouldn't let us down(would they?), they always have epic music in all their games.

Diablo 2 didnt have such a amazing soundtrack as Diablo 1. But still When you are playing a game. or even watching a movie. Have you ever noticed how much the music plays a part in the feel of the time? Watching a movie and a big action scene happens, but no music plays. Its not as intimidating (i guess i could say) then when music is playing.

Totally. Music MAKES the atmosphere. This is why Hans Zimmer is such a rich man. His involvement in some of the big blockbusters of our time were a major reason as to why those movies were as great as they were. The same applies to games as well as movies.

Exception is StarCraft 2 which has up to now, the least impressive musics in a Blizzard game yet. In my opinion, of course.
Music is definitively crucial and definitively overlooked these days, yet its -everything-. It is the single most powerful tool to immerse the players and mold the desired mood. I know when I made mods, maps or anything in any game and people turned off the music and played their own, I was thoroughly pissed because it would feel NOTHING like it should. Only fools or stupid developers ignore the importance of music in their games. But Blizzard does know.
I love D1 and D2 music too and hope that D3 will have this unique music style and feel.
In my opinion, that is very unlikely. Even SC2's intro music clearly has that WoW... "fanfare" feel to it. Hopefully though, D3 won't suffer that fate.
