I really really REALLY hope that D3 will NOT feature items/ways which give classes the ability to perform skills from other classes.
I personally think that this totally ruined diablo2, especially the PVP scene.
For example, teleport was supposed to be a unique skill to the sorc. Ok there were amulets that provided charges of teleport but they were not that commonly used. In the pre 1.09 days the game was played as intended. Each class performed its intended task as originally designed. Then with the inclusion of the fancy runewords in 1.09 the game just became a joke in my opinion. Seeing barbs and druids teleporting around just made me loose a lot of love that I had for the game.
Then things like the call to arms. The battle cries were originally made for the barbarian and for good reason. Battle cries suited the type of character that the barb was. Seeing a skinny sorc or assassin doing battle cries was just ridiculous and removed a lot of the authentic feel that the game had.
I know that the guys at bliz are all for people being very custom with their characters and personalising them to their own styles. But I think that a line needs to be drawn to define what can and cannot be done by particular classes. I would hate to see d3 ruined by classes being exploited by using another classes's strengths.
I 100% agree with you. Thats why I play classic. LoD was ruined by this.

I totally disagree. Runewords have serious balance issues, i kno, but cross class skills increased the amount of viable builds in something like 200%.
It doesn't matter if 2 classes can use the same skill, they are not equal. For example, necromancers with beast axes had the paladin's fanatism aura. Still a summonmancer and a zealdin are really different classes.
Really, with runeword we have bearzons, ww assassins, viable meelee sorcs. And each of those classes have dozens of variations.
As it relates to Diablo III, I wouldn't say "never", but providing a way to gain access to other class abilities is not something we're looking to or planning on implementing in the foreseeable future. I think if at some point years after the game is released we need some way to spice things up, honestly it's one fairly easy way to do it. I also think we have enough knowledge and know how and experience to be able to intelligently control such things. But I would also hope that those smarts could maybe help us find better ways to keep things interesting.
For everyone else, it may be awhile before we see teleporting barbarians and monks with zombie dogs. I am glad there are not any cross class skills. To me, that is the reason for playing a class, the skills offered to them. If you are looking for some more thoughts on this subject, you can read here.

I, too, don't wanna see any enigma-like items in D3. When I play a certain class I want to feel the uniqueness of this class. I don't want to have a barb who throws fireballs and make him play like the witchdoctor, for example. I want to feel the unique style of gameplay every char brings with itself.
Then play a traditional builds. But give people the option to twist their character in crazy bizarre hybrids ! The more option the better.
THe only time I was ok with classes with same spells were in Diablo 1

Yes, I agree with you, Ita, but only as long as enigma-like items aren't too OP
Yeah, some (maybe most) runewords (specially the high end weapon RW) is just too powerfull. I'm against OP high tier items but the RW like beast, dream and CTA added alot of fun to d2.
I really wish this would make a return in the new Diablo..
But truth is, I don't think it will.. they'd have to spend hours and hours more to develop new animations for every class to use spells from others .. And also since there won't be any class-specific items (I think that's what they said.. (?)) it would be kinda hard to make all spells work with any class. Some would look just damn right fugly.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for customization but maybe skill-runes will be enough after all. Some spells with the right kind of rune might end up making something similar to an already existing one from an other class anyways.

Look at this list. http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=19065186439&sid=3000
W/o cross class skills we would not have half of those builds to play.
Imo a perfect diablo game would not even have classes, just a huge 200+ skill pools and 2.000.000 possibke builds !
