Hey everyone I would like to share what I consider a pretty good end game solution.
We all know Blizzard doesn’t really know how to change Diablo from being a kill BAAL a million times type of game yet. (Bashiok stated in a blue post that they are still working on end game ideas).
So I was thinking how about this:
What if the game had a different form of achievements that work as followed:
Let’s say a unique item has 1/45 million chance to drop.
Let’s say the game has a total of 50 achievements.
Every time you complete all of the 50 achievements all the drop rates for items increase. The unique item that had a 1/45 million chance to drop would know have a 1/42 million chance to drop.
Basically every time you finish all 50 achievements they reset and you have to redo them but they get harder and harder every time you complete them. But every time you complete them the item drops increase by a small percentage as well.
The achievements should be random as well.
An example for this lets say we have an achievement called Blood thirsty.
You get this achievement if you kill the siege breaker in less than 5 minutes.
After you complete all 50 achievements the chance of good item drops increases by a small percentage, and your achievement list resets giving you another 50 achievements, but like I said the new set of 50 achievements would be harder. Because the achievements have a random effect this time to get the Blood thirsty achievement you would need to kill a (insert random boss stronger than siege breaker here) in less than (insert random time between 3- 4 minutes).
Good job not noticing the other threads about this currently on the front page.
Also increasing drop rated simply because you have more achievements is a terrible idea.
Random achievements is even more terrible, I don´t want easy achievements that are random, achievements have to be real challenges. What if you manage to do such a hard feat? Only to discover you don't have that random achievement.
I said the achievements get harder every time you complete them but just random stuff in them changes so you don’t do the same thing over and over again.
Like I said first time you do the blood thirsty achievement you would have to kill the siege breaker in less than 5 minutes.
Next time you do it you have to kill a stronger boss in let's say 3 minutes.
Next time a stronger boss in 2 minutes...
(Again these are just examples of random achievements I’m making up).
You will get to the point where getting the 50 achievements takes a lot of skill and you will have to struggle to accomplish them.
And the drop rates will increase just by a small percentage.
Look at it this way you rush through the achievements twice and you’re like level 30. It was no problem doing the 50 achievements twice but now the 3d time you can’t do them at level 30 because like I said they get harder every time. So you level up go kill bosses farm items until your like level 38 try again and you barely manage to do them but you do.
Now you get another set of achievements but again way harder than last time so you need to level up some more or get a group of skilled player and you have to play smart to manage finishing the achievements a fourth time at level 38.
And once you finish the achivemnts what happens item drop rates increase (Like i said by a small percantage) and the new achivemnts get a lot harder than before.
The random times, monsters, locations in them are just there so you don’t have to do the same achievements over and over again
I'm with Air on this one. I prefer achievements that remain challenges that are fun in themselves and not connected to something as important as drop rates. Maybe getting some kind of trophy (standard of heroes)like what happens if you dispose of the guys in Uber Tristram would be cool
Also there are like half a dozen threads on this already.
