I was thinking that this could be pretty interesting if it was used on a quest or mission and you'd fail it if you don't finish in time. I remember how on some quests i'd play in D2, people would move so slow because they knew they had ALL the time in the world (literally)..
I was thinking how different D3 would be if maybe one or 2 quests would have a time limit. Not only would you have to play the hard level, but you'd have to rush through it without dying.
Thoughts on making this part of 1 or 2 quests to keep it fresh?

I don't really like this timed stuff.. too much stress :X I like it when it's relaxed gaming
couldent agree more. I dont like the strss even tho I do like the feeling when getting it done but please I got enough stress in my life i play video games to get rid of it not get more. Maybe instead of failing the faster you get it done better the item (theres a cap obvisally) Also if you notice games used to be like that ALL THE TIME and now its hard (atleast for me) to even find any games today like (except for a few).
I liked the idea. It's not a big deal, it's just a challenge, not ALL the game.
You usually plays D3 in very distressed way... Some time limit may drastically change the gameplay, adding diversification.
I hate this idea. Time limits completely ruin the fun of quests, since you lose sight of the actual idea of the quest and pay attention to only finding something on time. Except when it's actually SUPPOSED to be there (i.e. disarming a bomb) I hate timed puzzles, quests, etc.
Yeah I don't really like timed quests either :\. Anything like it just makes me so stressed out for some reason and it suddenly makes me suck so bad at the game lol. But anyways who cares about what I like.. I wouldn't mind it being in the game, I'd still do the quests. I just wouldn't enjoy them as much. I do admit it would be different tho

well, they shouldn't be on important or big missions, but i like the idea on a random side quest. When I suggest this idea, i'm pretty much asking if you'd like this idea at all in the game.

thats why i want it. you said it in the last line. It would make part of the game different. (this shouldn't be part of the main story, and it shouldn't be too difficult...) but extra reward for finishing quicker.
Maybe for finishing under 10 minutes, you can get another choice of a name. (a name infront of your name, like "slayer") or "speed demon".. who knows lol

"Not Even Death Can Save You From Me" ~ Diablo (II)
Adding variety isn't always a good thing. You lose sight on what is actually the fun part of questing in Diablo, which is to really focus on the storyline and take in the enviroment and atmosphere.
story line shouldnt be that important in a random quest...
and im not sure wtf it has to do with atmosphere, if your talking about random quests, its simply to give your something else/new to do.
Im not exactly sure how the random quests work if you leave a game, and join another are you still on that quest?
if not, doesnt this sort of automatically time a quest?
or like I suggested before, an escort quest, thats better than timed, because the character your escorting could die eventually
Adding variety isn't always a good thing. You lose sight on what is actually the fun part of questing in Diablo, which is to really focus on the storyline and take in the enviroment and atmosphere.
Main quests are the ones that take you through the environment and tell the story, side quests are found along the way to add extra things to do.
Adding variety is extremely important, if it wasn't for variety Diablo 3 could just as well be a straight path with the same monsters non stop.
I like the idea of having timed dungeons, escort mission etc, who are you to say it isn't fun. It might not be fun for you, whoa just don't do that side quest. There might be others you like while I dislike them.
Imagine if Diablo 2 had a timed quest like Izual or etc. The purpose of really taking in every individual quest is killed, because of the stress of you trying to complete the quest is ruined. Also having timed quests would bring quest failure to Diablo 3, and that in it self is pretty hard to come by.
Assuming that every map in Diablo 3 is unique and it has all those unique features, forcing players to constantly remake games would be pretty ridiculous and annoying to complete one single quest, make it main or side.

Everybody is focused on winning and losing, getting a perfect game because they fear they will miss out on things.
I do not believe it´s like that.
I see it as having multiple different outcomes depending on your playing style, if you want to take more time cleaning out the timed dungeon then you can do so and quite possibly get more items. Yet you die as a trade.
You could also finish the dungeon (and if you know the demo you would know you get PLENTY of time to run through the dungeon) and when you actually escape you get a big bonus like one very good weapon. So it's trading a great amount of gear for a little bit less gear but with one that is extremely rare.
The same goes with the town, you can save it and have a resting place and a merchant that might sell some rare gear. Or you can let the village be destroyed resulting in a breeding ground for some strong elite (think of ruined tristram in D2).
It's also somewhat a test to see if your current character is good enough to take the challenge.
And again people these are OPTIONAL quests, if you hate them don't do them. I just don't want Diablo 3 to turn into a mindless just do this and that hack and slash game. I want different kind of things to do, even if they aren't things I like I still want to try them. And if I don't like them so be it, they are optional anyway.
It's all there to make the Diablo 3 world feel more alive and active, instead of being reassured you can beat the game easily. If you want that go play Dora the Explorer.
Rofl me timbers. Dora the Explorer? Yes because I don't want timed quests, I absolutely cannot stand Diablo. Yes, you make sense.
You still have not answered my question on how Diablo will treat failed quests, since to my knowledge, Diablo never had anything of that sort. It would make sense if say the only way to open a door is if you reach a place at a certain time because the light beam has to touch it, and if you miss it, you have to wait an entire day. Yet saying that you have to clear a place like the Den of Evil in 2 minutes or less or else you have to remake the game would be pointless.
And if you added times on optional quests, like Ubering or some stuff. You would be left with very few ubering people, since then the side quest would be near impossible. Imagine having to complete Uber Tristram in 2 minutes of less the first time you find the portal. Not only will you fail, you will sit pissed off and you probably won't try again. It's pointless. It adds extra stress. It does not promote variety. It's just annoying.

thank you for that...no one understands the point of the post...
they think just because i mentioned "timed quest", they imagine everything timed....that is NOT how it works....
if you really want to just play the main missions, then be my guest -_-.
Have you realized WHY in D2 we farm bosses and stuff. Its because there are only 6 quests in each act, 90% of the time, we only do the 2 we need to continue. except act, because we need all of them...
THE POINT OF A SIDE QUEST IS TO HELP US BUILD STRENGTH BETWEEN MAIN MISSIONS... now, these missions aren't necessary, but just because there is a timed mission, doesn't mean you will be so rushed. It just means you can't sit around and chat. If you find a wounded man in the desert, you have 30 mins to bring him back to town, or he will bleed out and die!
THAT, is an example of a timed mission! It isn't so complicated. If you tell yourself that you don't want to be rushed in a time limit...its a game... you can't get lazier than that...
thats like saying you're too tired to play cod..
I understand you imagine it'd be complicated and for some reason, the problem with suggesting an idea on this forum is that people go too far with it -_-. If i mention one thing, people blow it out of proportion...

not saying it couldnt exist (seen some extreme timed quests in WoW so it wouldnt be too unexpected), just that i wouldnt like it as much.
