i really dont see how gold CAN be a currency. high runes and such were a currency because they were useful in runewords and such.
unless they incorporate a new use for gold, i dont see how something used to buy items or hirelings can really be used as a currency.
Same here. I hope they can make a reasonable use for gold. I personally like the bartering system (Item for item) and think gold at high priority would make trading one dimensional like d2s high priority of runes.
I'm sure they'll have some way to balance item trading and gold trading. They won't make the same mistake as in D2. Highrunes and SoJ being the main currency. This would just be reversed if they didn't plan it good.
Really lame(not as lame as auto attribute), they are really dumbing down their games, make everything casual friendly with no depth. The trading system in D2 is so amazing without all the dupes. why did blizzard choose to make gold as a main currency instead of just buffing it a little bit so its not worthless is IMO because they dont have to confident to make D3's item system live up to D2s. I hope I am wrong but D3 is really looking more like WoW every day.
On a off note, a very good way to keep gold from being the main focus is to create soul bound items, which I'm not particularly fond of either though. Maybe craftable soulbounds, that way people will want to buy materials to make them for themselves.
Not all craftables of course, maybe just a few class specific ones. Didn't they say there would be some class specifics?

I really wish they could give us more information...
Um... I dont think class specifics are varified yet.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.

I assume that's one thing they'll be doing to make it more valuable.
Raise prices of items, reduce gold drop, expensive things to buy, etc etc.
And a worthwhile in use.
that still doesnt make it that valueable. i almost never bought items (other than potions) from the vendors.
who knows, maybe the vendors will hold the best items in the game...unqiues, rares, sets, etc. hey thats a good idea!
Respec for gold
Crafting system uses gold
more?
Very wrong as far as I'm concerned, plenty of games have had gold (if not some coinage) as a main currency for... years and years.
If they can make it work, I think it will turn out better than the D2 style and I have confidence they will still keep some item to item trading.
My only wish is to keep it away from the ONLY necessity in trading like WoW.
I think they realize that's a broken system and hopefully will find a way to balance it away from that.
We see eye to eye

If blizz gets both of them in it would be great.
