There was a game long long time ago, when I trained the magic skill to the top level like 99, the graphic will be much different. I know that it may require more work from the developer and pc resource, but it really looks cool.
For example, a fire ball skill (max. level is 20), so when the player trained this skill to the level 20 (max), it will become a fire dragon (e.g. link up certain fire balls together) or a super big fire ball.
When other players saw that, will know you have high skill level of fire ball. And, the main point is you look COOL.
Meh, now that I think about it... Not such a good idea. Get a group in Hell mode killing a boss and spamming spells mixed with havok physics and a lot of PCs would die.
Yes, I had think about the computer resource. How about when the magic is max., the extra graphic/power will only happen in a random number? Like 5%, when it shows up, the players will then be super excited.

You mean like maybe a different spell graphic for each skill when you get a critical? That'd be cool.
I mean if a player used a magic spell which reach the max. level or certain high level, the graphic will be different and give higher magical damage like critical hit. However, this will happen randomly like only 1-5%.
They are already in D2 in some skills. Like firewall gets longer, inferno gets longer. Now they ofc have better tools and technology to make these and I think there will be such things.
yes, firewall will get longer ... I want the difference more obvious. Just for an example, a fireball will become a super big fireball or even a Fire Bird !
if it was randomized at like 5%, yes that woulld be really cool, it would give another dynamic aspect that keeps it from being so monotonous

YEAAAHHH!!! 5% of mongrels can be bipedal, hulking MONGREL TITANS!!! or giant ridable ones... I could go for that. But no sparkle effects! For every sparkle I find, I shall kill you >:-l
At first I thought you only meant the actual spell icon rather than having that white 20 to let you know to stop clicking the damn button!
I don't think the idea of say fireballs forming a dragon is very practical, but maybe something simpler such as fireballs growing in size or changing heat color depending on their spell level.

Everquest did a good way of conveying the different levels of a spell. Just make it every X amount of levels of the skill will give a different effect.

I said around 5% as I think we don't want to see the special thing or critical hit so ofter, then it will become not special and no surprise. 5%, it is like evey 20 hits, the special hit will occur. Casting a magic spell 20 times is really easy ...
I like the idea of the spells maxed getting a different graphics on criticals. Imagine with the physics engine they could make the critical hit make monsters FLY!
