This could be a long and painfully dull situation like Funcom and the state of their new game, and it might not even show signs of progress until the final act.
Communities like this are the same as families, we tend to repeat ourselves about even the smallest things, some are blunt and ridiculed, others are mostly invisible but constructive, and the rest have down syndrome.
Well the game producers are pharmacists, and the downs requires medication, and the kids are soon to be out of meds. However the bill is quite taxing on the people taking care of these mongoloids and this time they can't pay the bill because there are so many retarded kids in the familys. The pharmacist can't do anything because there is a little thing called protocol, which disallows an employee to freely give out meds without the approval of the company, looks like that family is fucked for now.
Catch my drift govenor?
I think that I just wasted my time saying that in the wrong thread, oh well
Actually that screenie looks a lot like it would be World of Warcraft 2. Seriously, the art direction and all the UI copypasted there does make it look like it.
"Which was your favorite Quake level? The brown castle, the greenish brown temple, or the other brown castle? Jerico shows us exactly how far we've come with the levels being in order: Brown ruins More brown ruins Brown castle More brown castle And Revenge of the brown castle."
My girlfriend said it best when she and I observed the "before and after" pics that the gamers (who apparently think Photoshop, or any other kind of picture editing program, is hardcore stuff when removing colors from a screenshot) seem to think are soooooooo much better than actual employed game artist's creations: "The sun doesn't shine black."
One of my biggest annoyances with D2 was the darkness factor. Sure it was interesting as a level 2 druid running around the Den of Evil wondering what might wander into my circle of light, but as I noticed the same crap over and over through the acts, especially in Act 5 when the only other color than brown and gray was the red blood being splashed into the ground....I began to grow weary as my eyes began to scream at me with a fury that surprised me.
The gameplay trailer left me overjoyed and extremely excited with a completely new addition to the Diablo universe: COLORS
Such a new and exciting concept! MOST of us were happy about this twist in the Diablo plot line but of course....there always has to be a group of people who want to stick with the old ways. But it makes me happy to know that those stubborn morons don't always dictate what happens no matter how many signatures or support they get. Know why I can feel so secure? Because the United States of America used to allow slavery.
So eat that ya "blood signature" b****es.

Diablo 2 already had colours, they used a lot of colours. More colours than we see in the 20 minute preview video for D3.
Yet Diablo 2 used colours in a realistic way. Dungeons were dark, forests were green and you could tell before Diablo's influence would have been lush.
The landscape was in a dark, gothic despair, however, and that is the feel of Sanctuary. Before Diablo (read the books, they're not bad and they still have the same moody feel) the world of Sanctuary was in a gloom. It's the haven for all those creatures, heavenly or demonic, to stay out of the war between Heaven and Hell. Sanctuary is a refugee camp, basically.
"especially in Act 5 when the only other color than brown and gray was the red blood being splashed into the ground"
Act 5 was one of the most colorful acts in the game. I really don't see why people are so blind so that they can't see the colors in D1 and 2. The devs did. The colors are there, but they're not as pronounced as they are now. And I have to say that using the fact that USA used to have slavery as an argument, you should be in a mental institution by now. I'm sorry but that's just something coming from one healthy of mind.
You know, looking at some of the screen shots again, especially some of the ones in the dungeon/cathedral area, it really reminds me of a Disney movie. Beauty and the Beast, yeah thats it. It's just not creepy, I mean, unless you're a six year old...ok, three year old. I was kinda surprised when I couldn't find the dancing tea cups and the singing candle-holder dude. LOVE that guy!
Wow... *scratches head*... *wipes face*... I'm strongly reminded of when John Kerry or whoever was facing Bush when it first started, "Bush sucks," and "I vote for the guy who ain't Bush," but when you ask them people why, it became this rant disguised as a sensible and highly descriptive reasoning process. Turns out, they didn't have a single legitimate reason.
These screenshots are fascinating.
The difference is hella epic.
I see gray, brown and this mudclay red texture with slight glows (Oh, wait a minute, hues) added.
I am absolutely astonished with the premise and all tiers of this argument and request.
I'm all for getting what you want. Shit, I'll take what I want by force, legally of course, but I'll get it.
I'm all for speaking up, getting loud, proud, letting a motherfucker know you're there.
But shit... there's no base to this.
The one thing you all got going is the surfaces looking worn, like in the sig above me.
That's good. Abrasive texture, understandable. First good point I've seen out of 30 threads and countless posts. I read 120 words per minute and I've been here for 6 hours.
But as for "real," limestone is the previous color, the second one is not a color of any stone.
As well, "age" would make it gray. If you got reddish brown dust in your house, it's time to call someone. You need fucking help. Immediately.
Otherwise... if you're trying to tell people that blandness, which you -are- telling this to people, is what portrays all those Diablo adjectives, you're not going to get anywhere. It's more of the same.
The single good point that makes any sense to someone neutral looking at only logic and what he sees (First off, I'm a male, second I'm military - I see logic and what's in front of me) is the alteration to incorporate age abrasion to the stone staircase. That is it. You have not a single other thing going for you.
The petitions are great, I think it's phenomenal that for once in a long time people have come together in this country and a select few others as well for one purpose, and I'm not talking about some local area who got hit by a flood and life and death depends on coming together; phenomenal, but unfortunately it won't do a thing.
The radius issues, aka fog of war? It was a demo. I'm sure they wanted people to see everything going on. You might disagree, but I pay attention to detail. The first words out of any representatives mouth was "environment." I'd say they want you to see the environment in their one-time-exposed demo.
You have seen absolutely nothing.
You saw a bright, colorful landscape.
Look, ain't no Demon how powerful stopping the Sun from doing what the Sun does best.
Light things up.
You saw a rainbow?
Well, I saw a waterfall with a misty haze and a load of sunshine.
Last time I checked, I wasn't a cartoon, and neither were my outdoors.
You saw a greenish hue?
I saw nothing but grass and tiny droplets of water flying everywhere.
What does water do by nature, that word describing real, reflect things?
Hmm, like the same deal with the ocean and the sky? Both blue?
Well, darn... now that I slow way the hell down and think about it rationally, into a realists perspective...
How does 1 person outdo 50,000? Carefully.

The only sense I could make was the writings in the middle of your posts. The beginning and the end is like a black hole. The only conclusion I derived from the post was that you're american, military and a real patriot. This forum is not America (because it really seemed you talked about a single country in your post). You could have said what you just did with a few lines, because the more I read it the more confused I got, your point got lost somewhere in the middle of your text and it's not coming back.

His post is 100% clear and very well written. If all you can do is discard it because it's a well-made argument and hide behind "American military" I am kinda sorry for you. Or maybe you need to read some books.

Thanks for that post. I got it right away too.
I still don't see why people think "brown" is real. I drive through Compton, Ca and I see the muddled colors of red, green, blue and it looks pretty messed up....but I still see some base colors!
Saying D2 had five different shades of blue, brown, gray, and red doesn't mean they had a huge amount of colors. It means they were clever at trying to make a theme going on, which they did.
When I drive through say, South Pasadena, Ca, I see vibrant colors everywhere because the area has standards, an upper middle class living there and lots of healthy vegetation without dead, rusted cars on their lawns. Our world is a dark place to live in just by glancing at it....but that doesn't mean the whole place looks like Compton.
And I put my last line in my other post mainly to show I'm not one of the arrogant "my sh*t don' stink" bastards who posts on a forum thinking because I use thesarus that I'm somehow superior to everyone else who less ten dollar words in his text.
I love D2 and occasionally install it and play it til I get bored of what they did with the game (I'll forever miss you Cow rooms from lv 3-80 in a day) and please don't explain how you can "still do that". I know about it....it's dumb....too much work for the same crap I used to do before and no real enhancements to the game (No Ubertristam doesn't warrant that).
Back to my point since I could feel the mega geeks wanting to correct me on the cow issue...I always thought the game needed more light to it. Like for instance the durance could've had way more light from those big fires they had all over the damn place but it wasn't realistic. Same went for the Catacombs...and pretty much any damn dungeon. I was slightly ok with them being that way....but when you're OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DESERT before the sun gets blocked out....yea.
"Oh no the sun!"
"What about it?"
"It's gone!! We don't have anymore sunlight!"
"....I don't see much of a difference, guy."
I am applauding Blizzard's use of more vibrant colors for at least ONE of the outside landscapes. I was pretty sure in the boxed D3 we'd see darker dungeons because....well let me say this very simply: If some geeks with their computers could alter the images of screenshots so quickly to make them darker and somewhat tasteful, I'm pretty sure the employees at Blizzard could add that final touch once they are almost done with the game.
Last time I checked, you couldn't put awesome black flames/lightning/angry puppies on the side of your bad ass street racing car if all you had was the framework with a questionable engine, tires, and a wheel.

@FearJeebus: Bravo. If I had a dollar for every time I've been playing with D2 vets and they suddenly noted, 5+ years in, 'did it just suddenly get darker?' in any of the acts outside of 2 when the Night cycle took over, I'd be able to afford gas. It takes people 5 or more years to realize Diablo 2 has a /day & night cycle/. @.@

Ok, after reading USN's post for the 11th time I'm getting where he is coming from. But his post is confusing unless you're an american or well versed at acting like one at least.
Now the comments about the day/night cycle is utter crap. Unless you have serious issues you'll see it right away if you're paying attention. Which you're not because you're killing hordes upon hordes of monsters, probably. If you're really ignorant you can actually miss a lot of things that go on in the world, rain, thunder, the day and night switching etc. because you're so immersed in the gameplay. But for someone who notices details easily and is not sucked in by the combat the first second I engage in it, I see things happening. The first time I played it I saw rain coming down in Blood Moor and I thought "cool"! If all you do is Baal runs or whateverruns you'll probably miss all that and you wouldn't need to have them anyway. For someone who notices the added aesthetic will respect the game more for that.
Point being: You don't notice the day/night switch not because the game has a dark atmosphere, but because you're so deeply sucked in by the gameplay.
But his post is confusing unless you're an american or well versed at acting like one at least.
I am not an American and I am still fine with his post. You sometimes just have to read things instead of skimming through them, that's all. Please stop flaming him.

Light/day hardly made any difference in Diablo II. It's always dark anyway. A BIT lighter during the day but not light enough.

You've been bitching about his post being too "American" or that it sounds like he's trying to be one and his post is confusing blah blah blah.
The fact that you said it more than once signifies you had a distate for us Americans and his style of writing as such a person, thereby making his extremely easy to understand text an apparent garbled assortment of random letters, numbers, and the occasional cuss word (i.e. a confusing post).
