um lol, there are cranks and none-cranks. Or are you that demented to actually only talk about the cranked ones instead of the ones that you just pull back.
How about you pick up the textbook?
Ok, lets look at the ones you "just pull back". To simply pull it back you would have to have enormous strength. The average archer would never have this sort of strength. Ever. They would almost be forced to use a hand crank.
So no, the average archer could not "just pull it back", if they had that kind of strength they would of used a goddamned sword, as swords were more honourable in those ages.
(And honour was everything back then...where the hell did we fuck up?...)

does the average archer also have a mana ball in the bottom right side of his screen?
I've agreed that it could be possible for someone to load a gun in an insanely quick period of time. This does nothing to change the fact that it would still be inaccurate, skill with a gun actually meant how fast you could draw and arm it and point in the right direction. A gun only killed when fired en masse. A gun would receive no bonuses from dexterity.
A crossbow, even if as slow as a gun, was more accurate due to fletching.
Enough with the strafe thing. It's a skill in a video game, it works because the developers wanted it there. And it is magic, in the same way Assassins have psychic powers kind of magic. It's a magic she has to draw from within herself, like the Shaolin monks in our own world who can break boulders with their bare hands.
Edit:
Just because Europe was retarded and went into a Dark Age, setting all scientific achievement back a thousand years, doesn't mean the crossbow was not the most deadly weapon of the time period.
It takes about 20 seconds because a smart crossbow man will be liberal about his energy and not go nuts like a sprinter. It's not easy to pump up a crossbow no matter if it's by hand or gear, it all requires energy and in this era crop failures were quite common, I highly doubt a muscular crossbow man would realistically exist, these guys were running on fumes a lot of the time, state sponsored supply lines were not a reality until much much later in europe, you basically had to live off the land...

I love you. Who votes we make this guy the Forum Clown?
Fuckin' stupid ass cunt...
Edit: Sorry... "Stupid ass cunt" is rude... And while you are...yea... I don't want the mod's on my ass. So my appologies...

It also takes a crapload because the stronger people would be on the front lines...
And yes, it's a bitch to crank a crossbow. Believe me, I tried... (Though just a historical replica...)
And guns would work with a "Suspension of Disbelief" as well...
It's spiritual magic. An achievement beyond the means of the normal person through intense training and likely a shitload of meditation (I believe the skill says that).
We call that magic. If someone levitates them self through pure strength of will, what does it look like to someone who cannot comprehend it? It looks like magic.
I already gave suspension of disbelief that a gun could be fired fast. The next problem is an advancement called rifling, and the introduction of the minie ball, which were not invented until the industrial revolution. By the looks of it, accurate guns in Diablo are several thousands of years off. Not twenty.
Are you seriously arguing that the Amazon is so strong she can reload a crossbow all she wants just because she's "magically imbued".
You know how much strength and stamina that would take to continuously reload a crossbow THAT fast?
She might as well be bare handed because with that amount of strength and speed she can punch holes in brick walls.
I say we give Shelled a jester's hat and paint his face, because that's all his good for. Making us laugh.
Actually she can't. Oddly enough, the Amazon has the slowest attack speed with the crossbow. Only time someone used a crossbow was for Buriza Do-Kanyon.
So it's ok that a crossbow be inaccurately presented because it's a game afterall.
But it's not ok for a gun to be used because it would be innacurately presented.
Besides, according to shelled, our archers are super human, they could reload a crossbow plenty fast. But I guess, for some reason can't reload a gun plenty fast. Oh right, they're archers, my mistake. How about a super human gun specialist of some sort... with a mana ball?
Now you get it. Crossbows are fine because it fits there little Hollywood world. Guns are not fine because they don't fit there little Hollywood world.
It's called hypocracy.
(Mind you this is from a guy who want's to play the barbarian class first...)

So, guided arrow couldn't be brought to the gun somehow to use magic to help it stay on a straight trajectory?...
Wait, this is Diablo, of course it can't. Magic only rips apart the most fierce monsters and brings the dead to life, it can't keep a tiny little ball in a straight line. *Eye roll.*

I actually said this before you.
Guided Bullet.
Like my other idea for gun-like devices that shoot spells, it would be ridiculously overpowered.
Different fantasy world, that world followed it's own set of rules, diablo follows a medieval era realization of the certain doom that all short lived humans felt in europe with it's classic conan plagarisms minus the philisophical conclusion.
LotR followed a high fantasy story in which elves and orcs and humans battle for supremacy in epic battles, It was a lore game based around the stories of the north eastern european visigoths of the classical period.

Yet diablio is a high fantasy game, without any guns in it. lol, idiot. There not going to put guns in diablo 3. This thread is a waste of space.

It's a waste of time and yet you keep responding to it, you're fanning it's survival, it's also a rather dumb thing of you both to believe, especially on a forum and now, I intended this to be a non hostile discussion and yet you have trolled linkx into this long ass forum fight about nothing but facts and no truths.
I have no interest in arguing about my point, this is all i'm saying to you.

This isn't ONLY about putting guns into D3. It's about the POSSIBILITY of guns being in Diablo. I said this before. It might not be probable, but it's possible.
Sanctuary is a ever changing world, much like our own. There will be new items whether it's guns or not.

I agree it would happen, but it's a long ways from seeing functional skirmish use. Which is what most fights in Diablo are.

I seriously want what your smoking... It's gotta be powerfull shit...
Strafe works because of suspension of disbelief.
This is the third time Ive said this.
