I don't quite understand as well. Will we be able to physically climb levels <_<? Will levels get more difficult as we progress in the story? Will difficulty rise as more people enter a game?
EDIT -
It would be silly for them not to implement such a measure into the online gameplay. Why wouldn't they?
Not sure what your saying here, but if i understand correct: Both (as it stands now)
Monsters will get stronger if you get further in the game (DUH!!!)
And if more players enter (not sure if this is confirmed) because otherwise it wil be to easy in MP
I'm not the OP... I was trying to see which one he meant by "scalable" levels.
dellusion ... have you ever played d2 on bnet ?
If you did, then answer me this : why didn't you make baal rushes alone ?
I'll answer that : mob imunities, pala's auras, druid's spirit, barb's boo, better drops (from what I noticed) , better xp (and faster) and so on.
And ... I'm pro with the scalability, it's the only way for diablo (in my oppinion)
You know that about 99% sure whatever suggestion about the fourth difficulty, dimension, with new quests / towns would NOT be according to the story and would be wanted by only a few, that's why will not be implemented. Maybe a thing similar to cow level, lets say maybe even a quest or two, but nothing more
I played Diablo 2 on Bnet a lot, and I made most of the types of characters (2 types of druid, 3 of sorceress, 2 of amazon, 1 of barb, 3 of pala, 2 of druid, 2 of assa and 2 of necro) and trust me, taking each character through 3 different difficulties was HELL. Enspecially on hell when I met mobs with the immunity of my chars type of magic.
So ... fourth difficulty ? Making the same thing over and over again even more often ... no thks
if it's not scalable, it will be too easy.
if one person can do the boss, 4 people will have no problem

Might be a problem for the single-player game.

Diablo 1 was completely different multi vs single, but Diablo 2 was identical on solo and multiplayer (when playing alone).

Which made SP screwed up. You can't find an ice sorc on bnet to help you beat up some fire immune creep.
