I look at your stats and your gear, and I can't fathom how you do it.
If you have vids or streams of your play on your DH please link them.
But my question is, with your build and gear, how do you have all the content completed, I just don't see how you can live through some of the damage to be able to progress. Less than 10k health in act's 3/4 is crazy with absolutely NO RESIST gear?
How you deal with the invisible mobs and come out of nowhere, or some of the affixes that don't allow you to just out run or blow them up because they are either shielded or too fast.
Please elaborate, or others that have simular stats and build
This forum is bugging out, won't let me post the links, says I need to post atleast 10 post in the community, I think I've surpassed that so I guess Ill do that manually...
Enough dps can overcome being a glass cannon. If i turn a corner and see 3 soul lashers, chances are good I'll die. But then i just run back and hit smokescreen before i turn that corner and blow them up before smoke ends. Fast affix is the worse for me, so i run caltrops with tortuous ground just for this. It isn't required, but with 4 piece nats i can lay it endlessly and assure that nothing gets into melee range. Tactical advantage is also wonderful to get distance and positioning after using smokescreen. A frost damage bow (with bonus chance to fear/stun/blind/freeze on hit) on a scoundrel with multishot is also great at controlling the mobs during battle.

I don't use strafe:) but FoN (huge AOE dmg+slow)
Honestly, there is nothing special about me, or my glass cannon gear. Prior to everyone wanting to build tanky/survival, pre-content nerf, most DH were glass cannons. I unfortunately didn't get a chance to abuse the heck out of smoke screen due to having a job and other real life commitment. I actually beat Diablo Inferno with about 30-35k DPS, with impale and not nether tentacle, about 4 weeks ago. The fight mechanic is actually pretty easy, and phase 2 is the only hard part due to RNG with your shadow clone. The one thing playing pre-content nerf in Inferno was that this game trained you to dodge a lot of abilities. Be it spear throws, fireballs from winged morlokks, fireballs from those fat guys, mortars, any kind of projectile you can think of because those were the abilities that killed you the most. If you died from melee range you were either out of discipline or not paying attention. Of course, you still die to those abilities if you mis-time your SS or just not paying attention.
So basically, I played glass cannon pre-1.03, and continue to do so now. You basically are allowed to maximize your dps by sacrificing all defensive stats. You of course pay for it if you get hit once or twice. One nice side affect, defensively, is that because you have such high dexterity (2100+), you will actually dodge a lot of attacks that would otherwise kill you.
With that said, I basically outgear/outdamage the content. Most champion or elite packs give me very little trouble except for the typical affixes that everyone has problems with. I can easily crit for 200-300k with Cluster Arrow. Fast affix will always be the anti-DH unless you can just stand there and face tank. Truthfully, that is the only one that will give a glass canon any real trouble. Everything kind of melts unless they have xtra health or shielded, even reflect damage.
I'm trying to think of all the affix combinations that may give me problems.
No problem: Frozen, Jailer, Waller, Shielded (hate this, but managable), Reflect Damage (I have LOH for this), Mortar, Missile dampling, Arcane, Nightmarish, Horde (depends on minions), Avenger
Sometimes a problem: Fast, Teleport (mostly w/ fire Chain) bad RNG, sometimes Invuln (really just depends on the minions, if they're slow and melee, not a problem at all).
Beyond that, you just kite and kite very well. This could mean kiting in a straight line from A to B, or kiting around a piece of terrain in a circle. In Act 3 for instance in Tower of the Cursed Level 2 just beyond where the succubus/chained guys are, I would kite around the two set of small steps (this is before the long bridge). Occasionally you will be kiting/damaging things at max distance so they can be off screen. Or kiting to a portal to the previous/next dungeon and continue the onslaught.
Phase Beast occassionally kill me if I don't smoke screen on their teleport. But I usually can nuke them before they even get close. If they teleport on me, I just SS+FON (than move away with Tactical Advantage, and just kill it). White soul lasher usually don't reach me at all.
Edit: I find that if I cast my cluster arrow at a Phasebeast before it teleports, it will still hit them at their teleport location.
I also carry around xtra pieces of armor/weapon. I have a LOH weapon+ring/amulet, as well as a discipline cloak that I use where I would really need it (Azmodan for example since I can no longer kill him within 2 blood pools, I actually have to SS each of the pools, you would SS soon as it stops expanding).
I cleared Act 3 pre 1.0.3 with about..45k dps? And about 22k HP (still get one shot so HP was no use back then). Not really hard if you kite a hell of a lot and die a hell of a lot of times.
Nice, I think I"mma give that thought process a shot, completely ignoring survivability stats might actually be cheaper on the AH unless its absolute top tier, haven't looked it up yet, I just noticed the items with 3/4 rolls of high stats you need are impossible to get for descent prices.
Also What are your crit Numbers and your Hatred regen? Also your Evasive Shot / Covering Fire, is this a staple to your build or feels like a soso ability, or is it because of the backflip safety feature?
Does the AoE effect suffice enough when you are Hatred starved?

AOE doesn't suffer regardless of my hatred level. Evasive Fire w/ Cover Fire is an AOE that will hit 3 target. I can crit for over 100+ with that ability alone. With Cluster Arrow (Loaded w/ Bears), I can crit for 200-300k damage.
Cluster Arrow is my biggest damage ability and it can hit multiple target in an area. I can get 2 off with a full hatred bar and 1 FON . The grenades that explode can also crit for up to 100k. I've since dropped Raining Vengeance for Entangling (w/ the hatred regen rune). It's also good just for overall kiting as well as the hatred regen. I use the Scoundrel w/ a cold+loh weapon with multishot to aid in the kiting/
I can post a video some time tomorrow if you're that curious.
I can post a video some time tomorrow, since you're that curious.
Fixed that for you, definately calling you on that one, will be waiting!!
I am posting 3 videos tonight from some of my adventure in Act3@ the Arreate Core one of my fav'rite farming spots. One is entitled: Evasive Fire fail? Haha. Phase beasts and like welcomed.
Video won't be up for another hour or two (uploading direct fraps file). Converting the other two to something more manageable.
Not to show off or anything, but I'm also a glass cannon DH with gear I feel that is comparable to leirissa's. If you're curious as to see how evasive/cluster works in inferno A3, here's my 15 min clear of cydaea/az:
Okay since I basically got called out due to the fact I post quite a bit in the DH forum and in many topics here are some video of my gameplay. I go for a slow weapon w/ lots of crit and crit damage. Unfortunately I don't have a socket so it's no where near the damage potential. I could very well pick and choose what to record, but just started recording last night to show some example. Videos are very lackluster but since you asked here you go.
As you can see here, I actually died twice, and evasive fire was fail all over. Probably should of died more than twice but anyways...Also I lose bout 30 FPS recording so theres a bit of game lag for me
Phase beast champion pack.
I could record a full clear of Cydea/Azmodan although Cydea isn't really worth the trouble anymore since spider will instagib me 20 yds away.
Basically any slow moving target is a GG Snorefest ZZZz...fast teleporting or fast jailing will give me a bit more trouble than most.
i realy like it since the items are realy cheap compared to the mainstream once .... well im back steamrolling act 1/2 with this
Glass cannon DH is mainstream... not sure what you're looking at.
This. Building a tanky DH requires time and effort. No offense to Leirissa by any means but a glasscannon DH build is what most people go for. I know, because it's what I still somewhat have. I've been building a tanky set for awhile. I won't buy anything unless it is either the same dps or better and has good allres/vit/life% on it. I wind up having to spend 15-20m for each piece of gear I get just so it is worth it.

Edit: I think the general consensus is that GC has always been the mainstream build.
I've tried the "tanky" (as well as actual face-tanking) build and its just not worth it. For me to loose SS for GLoom only to get slaughtered on jailer/waller/molten/nightmare isn't worth taking 3 hits. I have a monk that I am gearing, and maybe I will steal some of her gear if I really need it, but so far, I am happy with the speed I am killing things at as a GC. I lose way too much DPS at this moment (because my tanky pieces lack a lot of crit chance+crit dmg). It just cost way too much to purchase DPS+tanky unless you have unlimited funds (aka, buying gold).
I think Blizz should just implement a "Cannot be 1-shot" rule. If an ability (melee/range/etc) that would otherwise kill you, you are left with 1hp. This cannot occur more than once every 60 seconds. (This does not work with boss abiltiies.)
Not saying thay anyone here sucks, but 80k damage is nothing. The most I've seen no SS, is 190k post 1.0.3. And high damage doesn't make you good, it just means you either got a lucky ass drop or you buy all your money. 190k dps would require the top end of gear which is around 1billion gold I would think for everything to be the best if not more...

Hungering Arrow (Spray of Teeth) - Such an absurdly powerful skill when you have high crit chance, I would NEVER use Evasive Fire over it, despite my Natalya's chest giving +damage to it.
Insanely bold comment, must try it seeing that you feel so strongly about it, I do admit though I don't like the feel of Evasive Fire, not seeing my projectives land makes me feel like I'm missing something, u just see a shot animation and then numbers fly off the mobs. and like the playstyles of the guys that used it on the vids, the 2ndary feature of it wasn't even used/needed as much as I expected.
Cluster Arrow (Cluster Bombs) - Way more than double the damage of Loaded for Bear, but slightly harder to aim. Perfectly positioned shots can do more than 2 million damage when they crit, and it's not hard to position them when using Caltrops to slow. Takes some time to learn, but with practice I don't see how Loaded for Bear is even remotely comparable.
Really? With the amount of peeps that swear by Loaded for Bear this is a pretty big statement.
Caltrops (Jagged Spikes) - Great for kiting elites, and setting up Cluster Bombs as mentioned above. The DPS from them is nice, as is the Life on Hit co-efficient when I'm using a 1h LoH crossbow to regen on reflectors.
I think I'm going to go back with this as well, in its place I was using the Bat companion for better hatred Regen for the expensive Cluster Arrows, but also referring to the vids, Cluster wasn't used as soon as they had enough Hatred for it like I do, it was pretty much a EF spam and Cluster was a situational nuke.
Grenadier - Allows a 3 cluster burst rather than a 2 cluster burst, and the death effect is amazing.
Really, where you see that, I must be reading it wrong, unless you mean 3 shot spam since you have less hatred use, yeah i got u. This is a thought, I'd have to see how it feels, that would mean losing Tac. Advantage, when I normally kite I'm not the stop and go type like most of you guys with that stutter shot, I gain space, spam 3-4 shots and then more space, yeah I know all play how your comfy, but this whole thread is about trying what works for you guys, and see how it feels.
PS
Thanks a million to Leirissa and the Grimbanes for your vids, shed a lot of light on some questions I had, the biggest dissapointment for me was seeing that you couldn't just nuke and blow up the elites it still took time to get them down with all the dps you guys have, makes you think to weigh the risk.
