In short, I have over 100%+ holy damage, but my crit chance is below 30% and crit damage below 300%. Currently I'm low on gold so I cannot afford top of the line gems yet. Also I am using a 1Her (Skycutter, for the +holy% and +holy damage). I can do T1 rifts comfortably and it's hard to kill me in T1, but it takes me a while to kill things if I'm low on wrath (FoH eats wrath soooo fast).
TL;DR: I'm looking for some gear I should hunt for to really make this build pop in terms of damage, so I can do higher torments. Get a good 2Her? If so, which? Get a better amulet? Which and what stats? Maybe my skills/passives aren't the best? Any feedback is welcome!
Well man, you just need to optimize your gear, 100% holy damage looking really awesome, but you got too low sheet dps.
For example, amulet - you want to have str, crit dmg crit chance and +%holy dmg there, this will be perfect.
You dnt need +% FoH dmg on your helm, you need crit chance there.
Str gems>all res gems, because you can get 280 (220) str there, when maximum res is 78.
And of course you need good 2h weapon, maybehttp://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/blade-of-prophecy still good. Or just 2600-2700 dps 2h weapon with str and socket.
Also reroll Smite damage on your belt to all res. You need shield with crit chance instead of armor. I know its not that easy, i crafted 2 of them, both were crap, but the 3rd one was pretty ok, rerolled all res to crit chance (str vitality crit chance holy dmg).
I messed up big time on the amulet. I had one that was str/holy %/crit/crit dam but it was a rare, and then i got excited with the leg drop that had 19% holy dam, I rerolled str and salvaged the rare on impulse... my sheet dps literally dropped 80k thanks to that.
- Hallowed defender shield: Is this the best shield for the build? I can farm for the mats to get a good roll hopefully if it is worth the investment, but not if it is just a minor improvement.
- Andy's Helm: Thanks for reminding me I completely forgot. I was working for crit chance but RNG is evil. The +FoH was the best roll I got, rerolling is expensive on mats and gold so I gave up and forgot about it. Gotta get back on that horse...
- Skycutter: It just happened to be the best weapon I came across I would prefer a 2Her, but I don't know if the 1H with +holy % and +holy damage is inferior to a 2700 dps 2Her that has (for example) + str, + physical dam, socket. Is blade of prophecy the BiS for this build?
- Ruby in sockets: I know I can get away with that in T1, maybe T2 if I push it, but Is that the best way to go over all res for T3 and above? Will my toughness be adequate to survive there?
- Provoke/Shield glare: I just used these skills because they seemed reasonable, I have no idea if it is "optimal." Is it better if I use judgment or a law instead?
I guess Hallowed defender is one of the best shields if you're going for holy dmg build.
About Andy, well if reroll for now is like 500k or something, its kinda hard to keep rerolling.
Im not sure about bis weapon, but blade of prophecy insane cuz if it proc. But it was slightly nerfed couple of days ago, just try to get 2h with good dps str and socket, compare after.
About gems in gear, its just my personal prefference. I got 1k all res, doing t2 rifts solo\party pretty easy, t3 in party is kinda dangerous (im playing on hc).
The main idea of provoke is getting wrath, if you got some troubles with wrath regen - its good skill. You can probably swap shield glare for Laws of Valor - unstoppable force or critical. Judgement - resolved is decent skill too, for boosting dps in party, just bursting down elite packs in a 3-4 seconds. http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Sattarqt-2876/hero/38718396 profile
I tried laws of valor and judgment instead of shield glare and provoke, as sattar mentioned my wrath regen dropped hard. I have to have provoke for the regen. I am torn between LoV vs Judgment vs Shield glare, I think it's between shield glare (due to the 20% dps spike in 12s CD) and Judgment (the 20s CD even wtih akarat's champ/rally is a lot). LoV takes foreverrrrr to get off CD.
As per the gems, if I use str gems I can only afford the +160 str ones at the moment, so replacing my 5 diamonds with 5 ruby will give me +800 str, is that worth the damage spike over +350 all res (I honestly don't know which is better)?
I have had several 2H 2700 dps +str weapons drop that I have been routinely salvaging, because I thought the +holy damage % and +holy damage with my holy build trumps the sheet dps of the 2Her... damn, was that a mistake?
Andy's is already 400k per reroll... damn you RNG!!! I need to look up guides on gold farming...
So wait, the +holy damage on weapons is pointless regardless of the element? Goddammit the amount of times I actually rolled that stat to get the element I want... Why is there even an element on the stat then, cosmetics? To confuse people?
I have found that raw +str and +crit as well as +crit damage are far, far better for your overall damage than any +elemental damage.
Also, the added weapon damage for using a 2H greatly, greatly outweighs the +elemental damage or anything else. Weapon/attack speed is only really useful for character sheet damage and Wrath generation. I only use Laws of Valor for the +100% crit damage rune to melt through elites/boss'.
I also think Provoke + Charged Up rune is just about required for every build, it does great Wrath generation and the damage is quite powerful. I can pop Judgement: Resolved, Valor: Critical, burn through my Wrath on FotH, then pop Provoke, get all or most of my Wrath back, burning through my FotH again (with Righteousness you can get maybe 5 in a row) and that burn is with +50% weapon damage... things just melt.
For a bigger boss throw in a Bombardment: Impactful and bye bye.
I had a holy build, with Hallowed Defender and a Golden Scourge etc. and I am doing at least 2x the damage now w/ a good 2H.
I'm only using a +lightning based FotH build due to my bracers and amulet:
Of course character sheet damage/toughness is a lie, especially on profiles as they don't reflect paragon points etc. but in game I am at 740k damage, 7.5mil toughness, 22k healing.
Easily doing Torment 2 and 3, but I prefer 2 just for faster clearing speed.
54% crit, 320% +crit damage (still trying to reroll Haunt of Vaxo from +62% up to closer to 100%) and 1010-1164 on all resists, I also have 9018 strength which gives me 16k armor for 82% reduction.
Point is, go 2H, focus on crit and crit damage, all resists, use +elem damage as a bonus, not a set builder, and +skill damage is also huge (I'm a bit on the poor side so I need to re-enchant some pieces for better +skill damage.)
A good 2h weapon even without holy dmg on i will provide you more DPS than your current 1h weapon.
Stacking Elemental damage on gear is fine and a good way to go but you need a solid base of damage for it to shine. I'd swap the All Resist gems to Strength, look for an offensive type Amultet with Holy Dmg, Strength, Crit Chance and Crit Dmg. If you can find one with 3 of the 4 you can always roll for the missing one.
Your Elemental damage is good but other than that you don't have enough damage.
Most players when they gear for Holy and they have low Crit chance(20-30%) they get Cooldown reduction but also keep Crit Damage high and with Judgement<Resolved> you can get very high crit chance and the cooldown reduction in combination with Akarat's Champion<Rally> can let you reset your abilities very fast so you can spam Provoke for Wrath and Judgement for Crits and Blast things away.
Holy Damage weapon is good for Crusader because you can get bonus from Holy Cause increasing your damage and healing you when dealing damage so it matters in this case , also for pure damage hallowed shield isn't the best item because other shields can offer so much more than just damage (Lidless Wall has the potential for highest damage , other shields offer more utilities that are usually better than just pure damage).
I'm using Foh Holy build as well. However I'm stacking a lot of ias as well with Justice/Hammer of Pursuit and FoH/Divine Well being my main damage skills and all the other are supporting abilities. I prefer this build over a cdr based build because it's more fun and consistent as to gotta wait for CDs and what not.
There's my stats on diabloprogress. Still on the hunt for Andy Visage, a holy damage amulet, preferably better SoJ and RRoG. Everything could use a stronger roll so that will probably be what I focus on while trying to get said items. I've also tried swapping Condemn out for Phalanx/Stampede and running Strongarm Bracers. My Justice crits for 10mil+ on elites. With 55%ias my wrath building is not an issue. Unfortunately Stampede doesn't do too well in parties that use a lot of stationary aoe because you knock enemies away.
I use Skycutter as opposed to Golden Scourge because the smite leg effect is useless. It's also transmogged as a mace because running with a sword and throwing hammers is funny.
If you read/are using the FotH holy build that is on this forum, I am the author. If not, I'd suggest you look into it and see if it could help you at all on your problems.
The biggest problem you have is your weapon. Regardless of the %holy damage the weapon is just horrid. For reference on the damagebounds of 1hs and 2hs is (1800-2300) and (2400-3000). Rough Estimates, but that is basically the damage level you'll see of 1h and 2h weapons. Your 1h is 1900. So as far as 1hs go you are in the bottom of the damage ranges. Skycutter is a good weapon for this build if you can get one that is closer to 2250+ dps. The math behind this is that a 2700~ 2h is roughly 25% stronger than a 1h. 20% holy damage brings them closer and a dps passive instead of Heavens Strength would bring them almost on par. What you have is drastically holding you back sadly.
Your best bet is to use a 2h with super high top end. There are a few 1hs that are viable on a crusader but they need to be rolled very well and have an entire build that supports them. A lot of the posts here have good info

The clones from Haunt of Vaxo are just so, so OP and combine them with the demon from Maximus and it is just insane extra free damage.
