Today I want to explore another viable Barb build - Hammer of the Ancients. Although I will be making a fire video, I want to look at a purely physical setup using the lower damage but higher AOE Rolling Thunder rune along with fury generating Ancients. With this setup you can HOTA infinitely, as Taskers + Ancients = insane resource generation.
I this video I show the build, paragon points, solo a T6 rift, discuss pros/cons of HOTA vs. Seismic Slam, damage output possibilities with permawrath, hybrid HOTA/COTA playstyle mechanics, and which Ancients rune to use and when.
Im thinking of doing this build when the game goes live. Do you think I'll generate enough fury when duel wielding. I want to run a Doombringer for 20% phys dmg.

I got to T6 on live at the beginning with fire IK HotA without TnT. Physical doesn't have the RCR from condercoat but 2.1 buffed the fury generating rune on CotA so you should be okay without TnT and drowning in fury with TnT.
The problem I see with any IK build in 2.1 is that to succeed in grifts you're going to have to focus on upgrading the pet gem so that they can survive, but the more you upgrade your pet gem, the less your spenders are going to matter. It ends up as a much worse version of M6 or any pet doctor build. IK still needs more love like unlocking all CotA runes or CotA copies your abilities. They can add the effect onto one of the crappy mighty belts

Not exactly. I've played around with pets a bit ~G30 and the pet gem isn't THAT crazy unless you upgrade it a ridiculous amount. It's only 0.3% per rank, so 50% pet damage would take ~35*3 = over 100 ranks, and with the new upgrade system that's not going to happen for a while, since you'll need to be able to clear ~G100 to get a successful rank 100 upgrade. So currently, for those thinking the pet gem is all that - it's not.

Discuss. Build calc not linked because it's PTR and skills/runes are irrelevant.
