There's no soft cap, but you should remember that you should keep the damage reduction from armor and resist as close as possible. Multiply your resistance by 10, and you compare it to your armor. if your resistance are higher then your armor, you should try to increase your armor, as that will be what is giving you the most DR per point.
But at the level your resistance/armor is now, you should be focusing on dps a bit more. High DPS is the best kind of DR since dead monsters do 0 damage.
Not really sure kite until cds are up and then run back in is really a "better" game design then WOW obviously they are differnt games and have different play styles but I would have to say I enjoy the differnt roles that WOW offers players compared to the "do the same story and just makes monsters hit more and have more hp" that D3 is.
Don't get me wrong I enjoy my barb and recently hit 60 this weekend have been farming Act 1 but people that hate on WOW by comparing it to this game doesn't make a lot of sense. D3 to me is just a much better version of a filler raid between expansions (I would still much rather have another Sunwell).
No soft cap, just make sure your resistances and armor are in about a 1:10 ratio. There is a linear relationship between both stats and health, each point is as good as the last even though there is a decreasing amount of damage reduction per point, if you're not sure what I mean google "linear health armor diablo 3".
I'm in the same situation as you. To pass Act 2 Inferno, we're going to have to buy some pricey items from the AH. Stacking block % and damage reduction from x by x% is going to be a must.
Curious thought, has anyone really looked at the resistance stats and what they apply to? "Level 60 enemies"
I am curious if that effects those stats while playing through inferno. Unlike Diablo2 I am constantly changing gear around, more health for less dps, then more dps for less armor, etc etc. My stats are always fluxing but I have around 600 resist all. Well anyway a few days ago act1 inferno was challenging and now its easy as pie and I really don't see a difference. Could it be the resistances?
I've build an EHP calculator, punch in your stats in there (remove your passives (aka pick offensive ones) before you do so) and you can see how much EHP increase you get from 1 point of armor or 1 point of resistance.
You'll see that 1 resist equals about 10 armor, just like Stein said
Im currently soloing act 2. Slowly but surely.. Still die alot, but Im still progressing
My stats are around;
42k HP
about 850-950 in all resist
8.5 k armor
9.2k dps
This is just from memory due to servers down
Now is there any softcap atm on + all resist before I can start focusing on other stats for further acts?
Or do the further acts require even more + all resist?
If there is a softcap as in stops providing big benefits compared to other stats, what other stats should I work on ?
But at the level your resistance/armor is now, you should be focusing on dps a bit more. High DPS is the best kind of DR since dead monsters do 0 damage.

My armor is 8.5k. So I could focus more on armor and dps,
hows my HP look ?
