As mentioned in topic title, I'm having trouble with my Barb in act 3 so I decided to sell all gears and start building my Barb again from nothing. Currently, I have about 30-35 million gold and I want to have a typical frenzy +WoTB build, dual wield to farm act 3. (I'm personally not a fan of Double tornado & WW build)
I would appreciate if you guys could tell me your experience in building up your Barb with that budget and the stats I can expect (Str, DPS, HP, CC, CD, resist all)? By the way, if it's possible, can anyone give me a hint about what kind of items to buy, perhaps piece by piece?
I do apology if it sounds so lazy of me but that's all money I have atm and I really don't want to waste money on some stupid purchases like I did before.
on the main page of the site there is a video posted yesterday about barb spec's and gear.
Basically all resist, crit hit chance & damage, strength and vit. Your budget should be able to get you some pretty good stuff, I wish I had 30 mil to gear my barb!

Thanks, man.
I did read that topic and that's a great guide but he didn't mention about the total price for his gears/items price so I really have no idea about what stats I can expect. Without knowing that, I'm afraid that I'll go to the AH and have some overpriced items and end up nowhere!
And yes, money is really painful. I was lucky that I got some good drops from farming act 1 to get about 10 mil. Then I used that money to build a Life regeneration Monk, which helped me to take down Diablo Inferno and farm act 3 and earn a little more gold. Now I've sold all my gears just to concentrate on my Barb. I really hope this time I can do well with him.
the gear he had probably wasn't crazy expensive. His all resists were pretty low, which changes the AH values like crazy. I bet with that gear he is having some problems in act 3-4. Keeping the DPS and crit chances he has and boosting his resists up to 700-800++ before war cry makes the budget go though the roof. Then trying to get some better weapons makes it insane.
I am still trying to get through Act 2 with my barb. I totally messed up a couple weeks ago when I found a sweet wizard helm I sold for 11 mil, and then bought a bunch of barb gear trying to build a tank, but I completely ignored Crit chance and damage, which screwed me. Now I am starting over trying to keep my resists and strength up and adding some crit.
I only have time to play 1-3 hours a night max, so just farming act 1 and little of 2 makes it a long journey!

in this video im talking about how to find good cheap tiems which im using myself. i also show speccs which work with this type of gear!
Thanks !
Hi Gaaraon,
I watched both of your videos this afternoon (London time) and those are great guide, really interesting. The glass-canon Barb is not really my playing style but I think I've learned a lot about gear purchasing from you.
Some tips on getting decent barb gear for cheap (many of them are re-posts from other threads around here):
1. Physical and Fire Resistance are much more important than other resists. You can generally get a nice discount on your set if you opt for AR on a few slots and strait fire and physical in others. Also keep in mind bonus armor (10 armor ~ 1 all resist), as it also tends to run cheap.
2. Imperfections, seek them out. Whether it is a chest with only 2 sockets instead of three, a nice barb belt with weapon-throw affix, etc. these minor defects can knock millions off an item's price.
3. LoH, Crit, and Crit Dmg in some combination on the same item is premium. Avoid needing that kind of all-in-one package. The best way i've found to duck that is by seeking out weapons with great stats and crit dmg (or socket) and rings/amulet with mediocre stats, crit, and some LoH. This is a little problematic if you want to reach higher LoH numbers (getting more than 800 or so combined starts to get expensive), but I found that with most builds ~600 LoH gives enough survival on top of defensive cooldowns like ignore pain, leap - iron impact, furious charge - dreadnaught, and so on.
4. All items are not created equal. Shoulders, for example, can get amazing strength rolls while chests can be found with more vitality. If you want to get 200 str and vitality, you'd save a lot finding shoulders with just strength and breastplate with just vitality than if you went round looking for both pieces with 100 of each.
5. %life, ias, and life steal (to a lesser extent these days) are underrated affixes. You can often find decent items with very high rolls of these in addition to other desirable stats without driving up the price. I wouldn't seek them out individually, but they're worth considering when you're looking over a lot of mid-range items trying to decide which one is the worthy investment.
6. Take your time shopping. Trying to snag a set all in one evening will end up costing your dearly (unless you're very lucky). Picking up bargains here and there as they appear (I usually poke around the AH for 20 mins after i'm done for the night) is always a wise approach.
7. Tailor your stats to your build. Offensive builds like tornado are better off with higher resistances, armor, and LoH rather than a massive health pool. On the other hand, revenge-centric tanky builds gain a bit more from having a substantial health buffer (revenge is a % heal based on your hp, so the more you have, the more raw hp revenge heals). That's not to say you can ignore health on an aggressive build or resistances on a tanky build, but you can prioritize your equipment a bit with this information.
Those are great tips for me. By the way, how much would you suggest me to spend on each piece on a 30 mil budget? (Like 2 mil for each piece & 10 mils for 2 weapons or something...)
Thank you so much for your time, it's really helpful and I appreciate it.
Once you realize what stats are a must for you and which ones are luxury (hint: enough resists/armor and life on hit is must, enough critical chance to not be fury starved is also a must but the minimum required isn't very high, DPS is more of a luxury), then it's all about finding good deals on the AH. If you haven't spend a lot of time trying to find that good deal and if it isn't the best deal you've managed to find in the last X searches (where X goes up the more expensive the item you want to buy is), then it's not a good deal...
If you are afraid to buy overpriced, the best thing to do is just search without buying until you are sure you know what is overpriced and what is a good deal. There are too many different item modifiers and too many different price ranges for each item that it is impossible to tell you exactly what you can get without doing the exact same research work that you would need to do yourself.
What I can tell you though is that the weapons will be the hardest thing to find because you want to spend a good portion of your gold on them, but on the other hand you don't want to get very expensive weapons and find yourself left with insufficient damage reduction from the rest of your gear so you can't out-heal the damage the monsters are dealing. Overall, you should be able to gear yourself for act 3 farming with 30mil, but it will not be easy. You will need to make DPS compromises to survive there. I'm not even 100% sure if with 30mil you should shoot for act 3 farming or just stick with act 2 (with much higher DPS and lower resists/LOH) until you can afford better items.

I would just take the bargain buys as they come, although it's almost certain (astronomical luck not withstanding) you will spend 2/3 or more of your gold on weapons, and most of the latter third on rings, amulet, and gloves.
If you want to narrow your early search, I would suggest starting on weapons (emphasis on crit dmg, LoH, and stats over raw dps) and make sure they don't break the bank. If you find yourself owning two decent weapons with 20mil left over, you should be comfortable getting the rest. If you splurge and have only 5-10m left over after weapons, you'll have some tough choices to make. Bear in mind that an axe/mace is very much preferable as a main-hand weapon due to the weapons master passive.
2/3 seems high to me for a 30mil budget. Remember first you need the minimum survival. Damage is secondary as it just lets you kill faster, but doesn't let you kill stuff that deal more damage than you're healing. Of course, if damage is too low you might end up finding yourself better of farming act 2 anyway, where much less survival stats are needed.
2/3 is probably over-estimating, but it's fair to say the vast majority of build cost is weapon, amulet, rings, gloves, and possibly helm. Pretty much any other slot will be based on the stats you get in those four or five. You'd like to get the most crit, crit dmg, LoH, LS, and IAS possible on those and itemize for defense in other slots as needed.
It's fairly easy to make up for lacking vitality, armor, or resists on the remaining slots, while most of them are simply not able to give you additional crit (bracers being an exception), crit dmg, or LoH (some legendaries being an exception there).

Some good loh weapons are a big part of survival. Resists are cheap, loh and dps aren't.
I'm a dual wield Barbarian(cleared inferno) and my entire set was bought under < 10 mil gold (with some Bargain Hunting) so with 30mil gold, you can definitely out gear inferno imho.
Proletaria has given really good tips on how to hunt for really cheap gear and theres really nothing much to add on from whats been said.
I'll go into some detail on what stats to choose and this i will be broken down into 2 sections. DPS and Survival.
DPS
Without going into too much detail Your DPS = A*B*C*D*E*F
A = Depends on your average Weapon DPS, B = Depends on your strength, C = Depends on your Crit damage and chance,
D = Depends on your increase in Attack Speed, E = Damage modifiers (like insanity rune), F= attack Speed
What this means is that a 1% increase in any of these factors will result in 1% increase overall dps
Given this result, you will maximise dps by buying gear with crit (damage and chance) and attack speed simply because str is so abundant in all your gear that it is easier to increase the other dps stats by 1%.
Crit also has an exponential effect which makes it better than attack speed. However because it is exponential, it will only work well if you stack if HEAVILY. i.e >30% crit chance >300% crit damage.
Hence Crit > IAS > Str.
Unfortunately Crit gear is very expensive. Luckily for Barbarians, we have +5%crit chance and 50% crit damage - relentless, weapon master - +10% crit chance.
Choosing these two skills will save you HEAPS of gold which then can be put to buying gear that increases your survivability!
Some tips for choosing dps gear
- Weapons with Sockets (with green gem) are the most affordable source of crit damage. (With dual wield you get +140% crit with a star ruby!) amulets are pretty good sources too! (Rings being the worst)
- Str (All armour pieces except rings, amulets, helms)
- Crit hit chance is just expensive everywhere, but are much cheaper if you buy gear that don't have an "all in one package". Don't forget you have +15% crit hit just from passive skills! Also scoundrel gives +3% crit hit chance.
Survivability
Your Survivability depends on effective health which depends on vital, All resist, armour. How much vital, resist and armour will depend on what skills you choose for your barbarian.
I run with 49k HP, 750 resist all (after shout), 6k armour (after shout) with no LoH which is very low for act 3/4. However, i run two defensive skills -ignore pain (ignorance is bliss) and leap (iron impact) which greatly increases my survivability.
What this means is that your choice of defensive skills and runes will GREATLY affect how much survival stats you need.
Some tips on defensive gear
- Helm with socket is a must - +% health from purple gem is too good to pass on
-Always factor in resist all you get from intel. 10 intel = 1 resist all. This is a common mistake many people make. You can save heaps on gold just by remembering this rule
-Try to get your resistance from armour pieces. They are very expensive on rings, amulet and helms with sockets.
-Mix and match your gear. Weapons are great sources of the vital stat.
Armour pieces with average level of vital but great dps stats can always been combo-ed with weapons with insane vitality (some have +250>)

Yeah, I think I'll spend around 20-25 mils for all armor pieces (including trinkets) and around 10 mils for weapons. I tried farming act 2 already but honestly, I hate that act with those annoying bees and the big maps... so I guess I'll try my best to be able to farm act 3. Thanks for your great help, man.

45K HP, 43K DPS (46% CC, 270% CD, 1700 Str), 700 resist all (around 900 for fire and physic), 10K Armor buffed. Do you think it's possible and which one should I improve?

Hi LastMan,
Those are great tips and very helpful, I must say. I tried to look up on AH with both of your and proletaria's tips but I find it a little bit more than 30 mils to have your stats (with around 1600 strength - 41K DPS). I guess I just haven't got the right pieces yet. If you dont mind, could you please tell me the details of your gears (and perhaps prices, if it doesn't take so much of your time) so I can give it another shot on AH?
I was able to kill mobs really fast but my problem is I dont have any LoH/ life steal and whenever it comes to Arcane Enchanted/Morten, I die really fast. I think I'm going to lower my DPS a little bit to get around 1200 LoH and use Overpower - Crushing Advance instead of Leap. Hope it'll work. What do you think?
And thanks again for your time, I appreciate it, mate!
Arcane will pretty much kill you no matter what, even with really high LoH and crushing advance. Molten otoh can be quite easily tanked with OP and some LoH, although if your dps is decent you can just rotate leap and charge - dreadnaught or Ignore pain - ignorance is bliss for some itemization free life return. I would try those out before you go spending your last gold piece on LoH.
With your gear, bosses and mobs should be pretty much faceroll. As proletaria has mentioned, arcane will just kill you regardless even if you have both iron impact and ignore pain buffs up. I wouldn't swap out leap since it gives superior mobility and has a much longer damage reduction uptime then ignore pain due to its shorter cool down.
Leap has saved me so many times from Waller/vortex elite with crazy dps combos
Since you have no LoH, you should prob swap out iron hide with ignorance with bliss. And as proletaria has mentioned, it's probably a good idea to get used to and be more effective at your build rather then buying your next piece of gear.

Total Cost for gear = 8mil
Total Cost with Gem = 9.5 mil
Gloves have +27% crit damage
Base on your tips & prolateria's and how you geared your Barb, I was able to get this stats with 24 mils:
46K HP/48K DPS (unbuffed)/800-1000 resist all/7K armor(buffed) (50.5 % CC, 320% CD with Ruthless & Weapon master)
The build I use:
Frenzy - sidearm/ Revenge - Provocation/ Leap - Iron Impact/ Ignore pain - Iron hide/ WoTB - Insanity
Passive: TaN/Ruthless/Weapon Master
