Do you think they are idiotic because you think everything is perfect or are they idiotic because of the specific timing to change something in your life?

I think they're idiotic because their very concept is absurd. Why wait till the year ends to make resolutions? That's pretty fucking lazy and contradictory. If you want to change something in your life, you do it whenever, not at a specific date every year. It's a dumb concept because I'm not gonna create a checklist and make my entire year a time-span for achieving random stuff. Most of the resolutions that you yourself made are not resolutions, they're just things that people look for on a daily basis. They're nothing special, they aren't resolutions. I just hate the concept, really.
The purpose of doing it at the end of the year is because it gives you a simple time frame of your life. This is not to say changes can only occur at this time but it is at this time you can reflect back to the beginning of the year and see what has happened in your life.
My resolutions are special for me, that is the thing about resolutions. Some people have already obtained those things and other people might not care about them. All of my resolutions are special to me because these are the areas I want to improve upon in my life.

So these are "special" to you and you want to "improve" on them in your life? Everyone in college wants to finish college. Everyone aspires to get a better job. The last one..well..I'll just stay silent on that one.
not everyone wants a better job, not everyone wants to go to college and therefore finish it. Just because these items are special to multiple people, that does not mean that it can not also be special to me.

It is not an arbitrary date. It is just an easy time frame. Same could be said for the first of the month or a starting a new job. New Year's is just a good time to make goals for that year since you can easily judge how long you have been trying to accomplish it and have a deadline that is easy to remember.

It's done this way because it works. Psychologically we like having a set date. If you don't believe me go look at athletics. That is a prime example with tangible results based upon workouts that are systematic, in cycles, and ALWAYS start on monday. Take any sport on any level and ask the athlete what day their training begins whether it be the beginning of the season or conditioning. It's always monday, that first day. Likewise, a new years resolution holds true to the same principle. It's much easier psychologically to start something on a set date and continue to hold true to the goal.
It's not that they are simply waiting for the new year to do something. The new year marks a period change that represents a fresh start numerically. People relate to that numeric refresher and refresh themselves. Basically our brains are saying "Well, if the year can start over, so can I. What can I do to make this year different?" And the idea is that since your starting with the first day of the year you can progress with the year and continue toward your goal with numeric structure.

Well, let me rephrase that. It's arguably an arbitrary date. And I was acknowledging anyway that resolutions are fun to talk about anyway even though I personally think they are silly. To me, of course.

It can't be argued that psychologically it works. Whether silly or not, our minds like to sync up with numbers like that. It's kind of OCD.
Batteryhead, thats a great resolution.
My resolution or goal for the year is to make the track team at the university of north florida and get waayyyyy better at photoshop.

Simply put, it's a laughable concept, seriously.
