Ok before I even start this very well might fall under: FAQ newbie questions about requirements. Now I would agree I probably could have found this under the search feature. However I tried 10 times to get past that damn image verification. It took me almost 20 to register. Either the letters are to light or there are circle shapes which can't be identified as a 0 or an O or the letters are in a font that you can barely make out, like it was eaten by rats or the lines are going through the fonts creating false letters, oh that's not all the fonts that are the same color as the background are great too! Holy crap, I don't think I've seen one like this ever.
(Now I don't know if this is an evil conspiracy to keep people from joining and searching the forums or what. I fell like I have won a gold metal for an eye exam.)
Anyway forget about even mentioning the search option.
I'm about to go back to college and will need to pick up a laptop within the next few weeks, however I don't even know what specs I need to play this game or even a remote lead on what it could be. Does anyone have a suggestion on what would be safe?
Firstly I would say get a desktop, but if you're determined on getting a laptop then you're going to need to post your $$$ limit here
Then people can make suggestions
As for Diablo 3's system requirements... Currently its all speculation
Well how about this, http://www.gamersunplug.com/, it's cheap and has a good battery life. Some these laptops barely top 1.5 hours. This has at least 3-5. Ohya I already have a Desktop, and lets just say I couldn't pry my WoW addicted GF off of it with a crowbar.
You can get 6, 9, or 12 cell batteries with most Dell computers. Though, I wouldn't buy a computer purely based on battery life.
Well, see the deal is I'm trying for something that can last a while at the very least. It's not easy having a laptop constantly plugged in when your going from library to study halls and ect,.
I remember the last time I got a laptop I didn't even give it thought and the thing died constantly.
Well, if you wan't that, then you're probably going to want a 12 cell with a backup 12 cell. Just don't expect them to be cheap.
I have no problem putting my laptop into hibernation then going from place to place personally.
Even with hibernation a 90minute laptop is easily tapped just browsing the internet. Can 12 cell be used for any laptop? Besides battery life what do you think of the specs though. I tried to find other things that closely resemble Diablo 3, I was thinking Dawn of War 2 would be a good comparison level, however they recommend some very vague stuff and I know from experience that what they recommend and what actually works for med settings tend to be two different things as well.
It seems pretty nice. Keep in mind though that alot of sites, when giving a time like that, usually goes on how long it'll last doing minimal things like solitaire and stuff.
Well, the Insiprion 15 is simply there for price's sake. (It's what I am probably going to have to get, what with not being rich and all).
But yes, I'd upgrade the processor to the P8700 (The 2.53ghz one), the warranty (Believe me, you wan't this!), stay at 3gb ram because at 4gb you get vista 64 (No relation to the N64), up the graphics card to the 256mb ati mobility radeon hd4330, up to the 9 cell battery (Because you like to be unplugged), and the webcam because webcams are fun.
Did I mention also get the warrenty? Because you tottally should.
Oh, and get a warrenty.
And look around the internet for a cupon code. My friend found a 25% off code once...
Personally, I'd go for an MSI, Asus, or OCZ laptop from newegg.com or tigerdirect.com. Me being me, I'd get an OCZ just because it doesn't come with an operating system (I don't use Windows). However, both MSI and Asus use high quality parts, too, so they'll last almost as long as an OCZ.
I've always been mildly interested in Voodoo PC, too, but I haven't dealt with many of their computers, so I can't recommend them.
However, DO NOT buy a Dell or an Alienware if you want your computer to last. I recommend getting an MSI, Asus, or OCZ because I have a fair amount of good experience with their hardware. I recommend AVOIDING Dell and Alienware because I have quite a bit of horrible experience with their hardware. I've had many friends who bought Dell or Alienware laptops, and they always break down within a few years.
To be honest, though, your best bet is to buy a custom built desktop computer (or build one yourself) and buy an Eee PC (netbook) for using on the go. It will probably cost less (you can build a pretty good gaming computer for about $600, counting the monitor, and a good netbook will cost around $400), and it will certainly be better for gaming.
[edit]
Here is a list of MSI and Asus laptops with dedicated video memory, sorted by user rating, from newegg.com. I would recommend any of these more than most other brands - especially for gaming.
That's the computer, it will definitely run any game out there today, and yes even SC2 / D3 when those are release I'm most sure of.
And this laptop does have a smaller screen and will be lighter to carry around at school, even looks pretty flashy too. All in all it seems like a good buy, unless you don't mind carrying around something a bit bigger,
Two of my friends own this laptop, it's a hella good gaming rig, and they both use it for their college courses. They just lug it around in a nice laptop bag.
Any questions bout those computers, hit me up in a pm.
I honestly think that asus rig is a great buy for any gamer / college student that wants a laptop computer for under a grand, and wants to play any game out there.
It's got 4gb pc 6400 ram
320gb hard drive
9800m gs graphics card
all of which score a 5.9 in vista's experience index the processor lacks a little but it still works great.
o ps.
dell owns alienware guys lol they're the same laptops, they're way overpriced considering bang for your buck specs. You can get close to as good for waaaayy cheaper.
Would strongly recommend the Asus linked below. I find 15.4" to be the right balance between screen size and convenience. Graphics card is great and it has received positive reviews. Not sure whether or not it is in your price range or not. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220483

Personally, I like anything by Alienware, though it's a bit expensive. But if you have the cash...
For the cheaper option, that should last a few years, I'd probably say a Dell Inspiron 15, customized of course.
Either way, if your going to game with it, expect to spend 900+ for a good one...

It's graphic card if possible. Its integrated crap from Intel....

And if you get coupons for Dell (Lowest I saw was 20% off) you'd get it cheaper there.
Still, nice laptop.
Sure thats overkill for a game like D3, but it will run like a dream. All I need now is to get a larger monitor.......
