ive been watching this forum since the day diablo 3 came out and have been around since diablo 1 even though i was a kid.... i just wanted to introduce myself and tell you my new computer specs... and ask for your opinions....:D
its going to have
Intel Core Quad Processor Q6600
5 gigs of ram
(built in)Geforce 9300 Graphics w/ 265mb
windows vista home premium 64 bit
i was just wondering if i should keep the Geforce 9300 or get the ATI Radeon 9550/X1050 from my old computer...
do you think that would be a wise switch...personally i might just buy a new graphics card but i want to know which ones better... and for the processor....do you think its a pretty decent one.... srry kinda new to identifying good computers...
I am a Geek Squad agent at best buy..I can tell you that there are two cards you should look into the Nvidia 9800 gx2, or the Nvidia 8800 gt oc.....the 9800 gx2 is the most powerful one on the market, and the 8800 is a good all around card especially if you get two and run them in SLI then you really got some power. I hope I helped you a little in making a decision.

Geek Squad agent AKA you don't know anything and you over charge people.
For being an agent you don't really help much. Where are the prices/specs of these cards? Did you ask him if his motherboard was even SLI compatible? Type of memory of the cards? How much memory of the cards?
Nvidia 8800 gt oc comes at around $200.
9800 gx2 comes around $400-500.
The 9300 is a lower end card. Nvidia sort of works like this. 000-400 low end :: 500-700 mid range :: 800 + high end. I'm not certain, but I believe the low ends are almost always built into the motherboard? They usually share your system memory, which at times can be a complete hog of resources. I would update your card. I'm not really enough of a PC enthusiast to provide a detailed listing of what cards to go with. I know goodguy is extremely computer savy with this kind of stuff. PM him to get his opinion!
Crazy what is your budget for everything? For a graphics card?
i at least want a good 512mb video card.... and could i ask you spanishbard do you think the quad processor can handle unreal tournament 3... ive heard it can overclock to 4.7 ghz and to me thats pretty freakin amazing.... but yes i believe the mother board is SLI compatible... any more info?
want to be prepared to launch diablo 3 to the best of its abilities.... I cant wait!
I get descent pay...it could be better but I am happy for now. As far as the job specs, they usually want you to be at least a+ certified...but if you have a good knowledge of computers like me, then sometimes that is all it takes. The 9800 gx2 ranges any where from 280 to 450 dollars, it depends on the manufacturer whether it is PNY, BFG, EVGA, and etc. it just all depends....Now for the 8800 gt oc....it is about 180 dollars, give or take.
my c2d e6550 can run unreal tournament a q66 will easily run it, you wont even use the quad cores, and 5gbs of ram? thats a lot but you have a really crappy gpu, and i would get a 8800gt 512mb good bang for the buck(dont get a 9800gtx its not the best product on the market

..I don't appreciate the fact that you try to take a shot at me for helping someone. First off don't tell me I am not helpful, I helped him by giving him a heads up about the best two graphics cards, in my personal and professional opinion...and mentioned them to him so he could look them up and check them out. As far as my companies prices..I do not neither agree with them nor do I like charging them, but it is my job. If you also noticed I said that I hoped that I helped a little.....I wouldn't mind taking the time to run down specs but after dealing with a average of25- to 30 customers and there computers a day I need a break at the end of the night. So don't talk shit to me if you don't truly know me..especially not over the internet. That is the lowest thing you can do is disrespect somebody whom you do not know based off your ignorance. I work very hard every day at my job. I don't benfit from charging the high prices best buy does...I make 10 dollars an hour.
oh srry forgot.... my budget is going to be $1,200.00... the computer cost $750.00... so that leaves me with $450.00 left over (woo hoo i can do math)... thats good enough to buy a good graphics card right?

Well looking at the UT3 requirements it says Dual Core 2.4 dual core recommended. Your q6600 is a quad core 2.4, so I'd assume it will manage just fine. I'm a bit ashamed, but I've never actually over clocked anything, nor have I immersed myself into the world of overclocking. I agree with Warlord about the 8800gt 512mb being a good deal. Running these in SLI should be reasonable for most of the games to come out in the next couple of years.

Well when I was offered a job at Best Buy in that department, I was actually offered about $8 an hour. So I assume that's about how much he makes, maybe up to $10/hr. In my opinion, the geek squad is hugely over-rated.
yea i tried the whole overclocking thing.... it makes the computer so much faster, but can easily overheat it and destroy it.... ha yea i dont overclock that much anymore after messing up my friends computer, but damn if i had a CPU that goes 4.7ghz and remains stable ill crap my pants lol...

Don't justify your laziness with how tired you are. As a professional you would understand that the details needed in assisting someone with a computer sale is:
Preference of manufacturer.
Budget
Minimum requirements
Compatibility(Motherboard? Crossfire - SLI)
Upgradability
So to see someone of your skill set, ineffectively trying to give advice to someone deserves some form of cricism. I understand you're just trying to help. You have experience, and that experience has lead you to recommend certain cards. However, playing off of your own priorities without understanding his preferences or limits is a very lazy way to give advice. My snaps at you are conclusive stereotypes that I have about Best Buy in general and the geek squad. Geek Squad Employees don't always have the qualifications to help people. As I've seen in alot of cases. So, my judgement of them, combined with your lack of motivation to assist Crazy only reinforces some of my opinions.
Geek Squad agent AKA you don't know anything and you over charge people.

He may be work for Geek Squad but he's not at work right now... why does he have to give the specs/price of the cards?
Google is a wonderful tool.
I don't know why you felt it necessary to take a shot at him out of no where.
Because other wise it's a useless post with useless information.
I need a computer.
Well, might I recommend a 1200 W PSU starting at 300...
But... My budget is only $300.
Oh... Well then, might I suggest two Geforce 7600 cards with SLI.
But... my motherboard doesn't support SLI.
Do you see how unhelpful this kind of crap is? He wanted to brag about his credentials as an IT professional. Then in my opinion he provides a very unelaborate lazy post. All I asked from him is that if he wants to talk about his credentials, I expect a bit more out of him. This is being handled in a PM though.
Since it's very obvious there is a large miscomprehension. I was taking a shot at the Geek Squad mainly. Which, had any of you had experience with them, may share my opinions.

So if I am so lazy then why did I go to new egg to double check the prices before I gave them to him SpanishBard?.....If I didn't care and if I was too lazy then I wouldn't have done so..I would have just put anything down. Looks now like your contradicting yourself. I never bragged about my credentials....I never said I had any....and I never made myself sound fanstastic..I said usually they require you to at LEAST have a a+ certification...but there are some guys like me that just have good computer knowledge, and most of my co workers have linux certs, microsoft certs....etc. The only reason I mentioned me working at the Geeks Squad was not to get flamed by some random unknown, it was so the guy knew I had experience...I bet if I never mentioned geek squad you would have not said much eh?.....

Actually you made a post with no information, no prices, he then asked you for the prices, then I said you were lazy for not posting the prices. Then... you posted the prices... Slow much? Had you listed random prices, you would have had 5 PC enthusiasts mocking you. It's only logical that you actually look them up.
You seem like the kind of guy where reformatting the HDD is the answer for every problem.

I myself have had problems with Geeksquad, but you crossed the line saying he's overpayed and knows nothing.
The opening post didn't provide any such information on money constraints or on whether or not he had SLI compatibility.
Maybe you're having a bad night or something, I don't know.
But at the time there was no need to trounce in on your high horse and boot him in the face because he works at Geeksquad.
He didn't say "STAND BACK NOOBS! IM A GEEKSQUAD AGENT!"
He simply mentioned he worked for Geeksquad, and while working for Geeksquad the best cards he has seen are what he listed.

I made a stereotype about Geeksquad employees. This is a reflection on the geek squad. This wasn't an individual attack. So drop it. Second, an illiterate person asking for advice is not going to list every crucial piece of information. It's the job of a competent person to effectively get that information. TheNoose failed in his first post.

Right I know what he posted. It just wasn't very helpful. Hence: helpful. All I requested is that he be more elaborate, because he failed to be. This isn't alot to ask. You can tell alot by a persons post. Especially when you're discussing a very specific topic. It just so happens he doesn't impress me. End of story. It's a rather waste to go on and on. If the thread-maker decides he needs more assistance, I hope the appropriate people will give appropriate responses.

Slow? I checked new egg and double checked everything before posting it just to make sure the info was as accurate as possible...then I posted what I found....but I guess if trying to get this guy accurate info makes me slow then hey damn...slow and steady always beats fast and reckless.
