I would like for you artistic types to let me know what the best digital graphics programs are and which ones you use for the digital art you post on the site. I would like to start using some 3d rendering programs as well as some good old photo editing programs. Of course funds are limited so the best not so expensive software is probably more likely to be used.

Photoshop is always good but don't get elements. Elements doesn't have the same amount of tools as CS3 does. don't know anything for 3d but Illustrator, Paint shop pro, and fireworks all are good as well. I don't use fireworks all that much but i know how to if i needed too. There's always MS paint and you could pull of some masterpieces if you spend the time.

Fireworks doesn't have as many tools as Photoshop, think about it as an advanced Paint. Paintshop pro and Photoshop are the same things with different interfaces.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.

Fireworks and Photoshop are used for different purposes. Fireworks really isn't anything like Paint, it's main purpose is for web content (creation and optimization) and vector editing (like Illustrator) as well as handling pages and slices. Basically you would use Photoshop to design the graphics for a webpage/site and use Fireworks to handle optimizing file size, scaling, hot spots etc. Although you can design in Fireworks, that's not it's primary function

Yeah, but I don't have a webpage, so I find it useless.

I have used the Macromedia Studio software before. Dreamweaver, fireworks etc. I really enjoyed that set of software, but it is primarily for web content. I built some pretty cool webpages with that software but no longer have it. Also I am more interested in 3d rendering and design. Honestly enough to build characters such as for RPG's and to create ships be it naval vessels or space fairing ships.
