Diablo 3 BestBuy Countdown
If you haven't checked, we updated yesterday's news posts with information regarding the release date sign. BestBuy was told to take down the sign by a GM. Also on this note, it was indeed confirmed the sign was a BestBuy product. However, today Bashiok came out as clear as everyone wanted with the following statement:
Official Blizzard Quote:
Diablo III does not have a release date. Any store or person claiming otherwise is guessing.
Demon Hunter - Elemental Arrow Runed
Today we have the Demon Hunter's Elemental Arrow. As always, please keep in mind this is not 100% what it will look like live. Some effects/graphics could be off. Please keep this in mind!
Wiki Digest #6
PhrozenDragon has brought us our weekly updated on the wiki!
What's New?
As many of you have undoubtedly noticed, the wiki Main Page has received a graphical overhaul. The design features some increased space usage, diablo news on the main page and some helpful links for people who whish to get involved in the wiki.
As always, Apoc has made some interesting additions to the wiki, such as information on Map Generation and Procedural Generation, which talks about the random map elements of Diablo III. He's also taken to making the wiki more asethetically pleasing by adding monster and map images to articles.
New user Ebonmourn has dug into the wiki and updates some of our legacy parts. The Immune Monsters (Diablo II) list, which lists all monster immunities in the game and how to break them, has finally been completed and is now complete. He also began completing the various Diablo II item list pages, adding affix lists to them. So if you're still wondering what affixes a //www.diablowiki.com/Swords_%28Diablo_II%29">sword" class="wiki-link">//www.diablowiki.com/Swords_(Diablo_II)">sword"/> sword, or any other Diablo II item can spawn with, wonder no more.
I myself have taken to slowly update the wiki with all the new lore information we've received from the Book of Cain. The work is far from complete but there have been some noticeable additions to the wiki already: check out any of the Great Evil such as Mephisto, or minor pages such as that of Vischar Orous. If you want to keep track of what pages are being updated, bookmark this page. Any pages I update with Book of Cain references will appear here.
Jinshin has also helped out with some lore additions to the Horadrim and Mephisto pages.
I also want to give a shoutout to all of our minor contributors who may not have made big changes, but their work is still much appreciated. These are Verity, Sojourna, Tioproza and a host of anonymous editors who left nothing but their IP adress behind.
What's Being Discussed?
Ebonmourn has started a discussion regarding how we should handle embedded headers in the wiki.
Book of Cain Signing Blizzplanet was able to get some nice pictures of the book signing this past week over at Book Soup!
O'rly? This info from a German logistics guys says that a huge batch of the game (standard plus CE) is scheduled to arrive in calender week 7/8 at an European terminal, from where it will go to German supermarkets. This, plus the printed manuals plus that promo poster (without the self-made BB stickers on it) tells me that manufacturing and shipping has begun. Expected release is now end of February or early March 2012.
How many anonymous "reliable sources" did you cite already?
I think we only did one, in which we said take it however you want to take it =P This one.. we dont even know about the source.. of the source o.0 haha.
anyway beside the point. Already posting in the thread.. If it indeed is true, it fits into my "release at feb meeting (release date that is) and release march-late hope.
I think we'll see the release date before the investor's conference call because, as Bashiok said, they "traditionally try" to announce it about 2 months beforehand. Packaging and shipping seem to be confirmed IMO after all these news and leaks during the past few days.
that just makes me think April then =P
or.. if they announce it a week before the call like they have in the past... lets say... "Feb 10th" to make up a 100% made up date
match 27st is "almost" two months... (well 46 days.. but w/e)
time will tell, either way I cant wait to get some more info.. these are fun times..

I wouldn't mind an announcement of February. Gives me time to get a job at Best Buy for a discount. And I don't want to have to waste my summer stuck in my room playing the game. But with school up again, I am hoping time flies by till the release.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I don't always burn. But when I do, I use hellfire.
also, Apple is the only company who announces product release dates in such a short time frame
compared to the company who released wow in two weeks from announcement to retail =P
That's what I wished they had done with D3.... SURPRISE ... get it in 2 weeks... WOOOT!!! lol
rather than the drawn out painful dribbles... oh well let's just keep hoping
Translated from "http://diablo3.gamona.de/tag/release/"
From Deutsch to English, hope the translation makes some sense.
"As we learned today afternoon by a reliable person to be in the 7th and 8 Calendar week (yep, this year), tens, expect severalmeters high pallets packed with the Diablo 3 standard versionsand collector's editions in a major international hub. The destination: the big German store chains like Media Markt ,and Saturn
The shipping date could not disclose the source for understandable reasons, but if you take from 10-14 days, startingfrom large warehouse, it could be Diablo 3 end of February or early March in the stores. The so-called golden version and the manuals should therefore be straight in the press. Incidentally,we were also told that Diablo 3 was registered in November 2011 and was ever canceled again. 7 / 8 week have also been booked under the reservation, but we go out assume that it works this time. As far as our current information. Once more we know about, of course, now there's an update.
Many thanks go to the bearer of good news!"
Via incgamers (translation of the German news (excerpts)):
"As we heard this afternoon from a reliable person, douzens of several meter high packed palettes are _expected_ to be brought to a big international transshipment point in the 7th or 8th calender week (yes, this year). The destination: the big german department store chains Media Markt, Saturn and what they are all called."
"It is understandable that because of several reasons the source couldnt tell us (meaning: wasn’t allowed to tell us) the date of distribution, but calculatin 10-14 days means Diablo 3 could hit the shelves end of february or beginning of march. The so called “Gold”-versions as well es the guide books should therefore be printed right now."
Please stop posting the same thing in every thread.
So about 4 days ago I pre-ordered the standard Diablo 3 edition at my local gamestop for $63.00. They have the release date up on their walls being March 2nd.

That's not an official release date, just a speculation As stated before, we will know first, if a release date is announced, also Blizzard releases are always scheduled on Wednesdays, not Friday.
Hmm My friend says he saw Diablo 3 case on the shelf of Game store in UK (not the original cases but fake just with Diablo 3 in front of them). I know the Game tends to do that 2-3mths before the release of the game and then they swap them around for the original ones 2-3 weeks before the Official release (once they receive the stock).
I have to confirm that and check it out my self in the Game store. I will talk to a friendly Shop Manager maybe he have some info will update if I find out anything lol
Your friend who is a store manager will know nothing about an actual release date. I worked at GameStop as a manager for several years and they dont get the actual copy normally until the day of or a few days (at most) before the actual release. And as far as the covers go yes, they normally get them a few months or weeks in advance but don't look into it that deeply. All it is, is the company trying to up their preorders by showcasing the top games.
Sort of obliquely related to the Best-Buy thing, but I noticed on the IGN website that they have listed Diablo 3 release date as both March 31, and simply Q1. The March 31st date is kind of hard to notice, but it is listed on their home page under "Top Games Coming Soon" section. The Q1 listing is in the header of the Diablo 3 page.
