I was trying to understand the plot of diablo correct, and got lost in the family-tree of Mephisto, which is the eldest of the prime evils.
My question to releaf my confusion; is mephisto the uncle of the nephalem? And is the spirits of nephalem the spirits of the offspring to Lilith, guarding the Worldstone Keep?
Hope anyone can put me on the right track again..
Thanks

If we are to defeat the flames of hell, it sure can't be done with fire..
Well, I've only read the first 1 and a half books of the Sin Wars trilogy (I highly recommend them, they are good). But from what I've got so far:
Mephisto is the eldest of the 3 prime evils, and he has a son (Lucion) and a daughter (Lilith). Lilith, along with several other rebel demons ran from hell and joined runaway angels and they joined together, to avoid the eternal struggle between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. The runaway angels were led by Imperius (wait, Imperius, or Inarius? I'm thinking it's Inarius), who was also the one who created the world called Sanctuary. The Worldstone was created by Imperius/Inarius to hide it's presence from those in the High Heavens and Burnings Hells. It also once upon a time, had the purpose of reducing the nephalems' powers more and more every generation, until they (the powers) no longer existed. The Nephalem are "humans" that inhabit Sanctuary, and are all the offspring of Imperius/Inarius "mating" (or whatever the hell they do) together (as well as mixes from the other demons/angels?).
The strongest of the first generation of nephalem swore to protect the Worldstone from harm, because it would mean that both the Hells and Heavens know of it, and Sanctuary will just be another realm for the two parties to fight in. These protectors are called the Ancients, and initially consisted of Bul-Kathos, Esu and someone else.
This is what I have gathered from the books myself, so I'm confident in most of that info, some of the stuff on the Nephalem may be wrong, so I'll be corrected soon if I am.

Right, and their offspring are the Barbarians and Druids. When the Ancients say "we are the spirits of the nephalim", I think they simply mean to say "we are human spirits".
But since that time, humanity has lost most of it's power (because the Worldstone was weakening them more and more with each generation - until Tyrael destroyed it), and so when they refer to Nephalim now, they mean the first generation of Nephalim. But technically, all humans are Nephalim, and all Nephalim are humans.
Also remember Uldyssian altered the Worldstone I belive so the Nephalam can get there power back eventually (Hence our awesome bad ass hammerdins we make :P) Also we have no idea how Tyrael destroying the worldstone had any effect on the people weather they lost there powers or gained them back or how it affected Trag'Oul

The trilogy mentioned that Sactuary was created by a group of rogue angels and demons. Other angels also take role in discussing how to deal with the astonishing gift of the Nephalem. It seems that the Nephalem should be born by all the rogue angels and demons.
However, along the entire Uldissian event, no other rogue angels/demons appeared except Inarius and Lilith. In addition, all the convesation in the trilogy implys me that Inarius and Lilith are the only primal ancestors of human. The other rogue angels/demons seem have evaporated from Sactuary. So weird.
I think it was in that war where the first Nephalem fought against the angels/demons and I suppose slayed them all (aside from inarius and Lilith, of course). I'm recalling this from when Mendeln recieved his ivory, bone dagger thing from Trag'Oul.

I think thats what I was talking about? >.>
Its in part 2 of the trilogy, like I had said - it was where Mendeln got his dagger, and right before Rathma showed Uldyssian the Worldstone.
Or is there another big battle afterwards?

Straightening, he muttered, ?And so what do we have here, then? What??
The legacy of the demoness?s previous crusade?came the answer immediately.
...
They are the memories of angels and demons, came Trag?Oul?s voice. Their deaths so terrible that their shadows are forever burned into this place?
Not real spirits. Mendeln wondered if either group had what he would have called a soul, but suspected not. Perhaps that was another reason they both coveted and distrusted humans?
Now I know that many angels and demons meet their terrible death. But what is that demoness's previous crusade mean? Is it a general war or treacherous murder? It still remains mysterious to me.
And any human descendants from branches other than Inarius/Lilith mate?
I don't think it was a war, just a mass murder. I'm not sure on specific numbers, but somehow I had the impression that there was about 20 angels and demons on Sanctuary, and Lilith murdered them all. I could be wrong though. Just kind of a small group that left Heaven and Hell?
And yeah, there are other offspring other than offspring from Lilith/Inarius. I had the impression that Rathma was Lilith/Inarius' only offspring, while Esu is someone else's, Bul-Kathos is someone else's offspring again, etc. I always thought that was the reason each Nephalem has different powers, because they have different parents and therefore different combinations of angelic and demonic powers. But again I could be wrong.
Yea I thought Lilith murdered them either that or it was a battle. I gatta go read the series again now lol. I belive is Lilith and Inarius had another son/daughter he would have been mentioned in the Sin War trilogy.
