Honestly I've gotten out of the metal music. The heaviest I will listen to is Nonpoint or Chevelle. The reason being is that I'm a vocalist myself, and I like to be able to sing along with music without killing my vocal chords. No offense intended, its just not my style anymore.
I saw celtic, and the thread caught my eye mainly because I've been listening to a lot more irish and folk music lately.
Some good, more traditional Irish Folk music examples are:
Irish Stout
Belfast Food
The Pogues
Irish Rovers
Ceili Moss
Flogging Molly (mostly non-traditional, but great musicians IMO)

Wongraven and Korpiklaani are not bad acutally. Thanks
Cheers ;D
You're right, not bad at all. I'm surprised I actually enjoyed some of Korpiklaani's songs.
So what music do you prefer now if your weened out of metal Archie? Ever hear of Opeth, Agalloch or Iced Earth? I think their vocals are as good as it gets and its METAL!
I think I speak for most metalheads when I say metal is defiantly not the only thing I listen to. I am more inspired by classical and classic rock if anything. Those songs from the 60s and 70s like CCR, Blue Oyster Cult, Boston, Moody Blues, THOSE songs for me are much more harder to play and more fun then metal. It just depends on what mood you are in really.
Agalloch though, one of my favorite metal bands even though they have an acoustic or instrumental to match every distorted heavy song. I would suggest checking them out.
Agalloch are a great band..but many songs by them tend to bore me to death after a while. They're still a pretty solid band, though.
Iced Earth only have an album worth listening to.
Opeth..well..Opeth are Gods.
Well thanks for optimistic opinion but I was clearly stating these bands are worth listening to if he is looking for vocal talent in the metal genre. Which I think all of them are talented in at least that aspect, but definitely much more
Thanks for the suggestions, I will definitely check them out.
As for what I am listening to now, I have gone back to the roots of good music from some of the greats such as Bob Dylan, Henry Thomas, Blind Willie McTell, Leadbelly, and early songs by The Beatles. Of course the groups I always come back to are Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Pagoda, The Pixies, with a bit of Mindless Self Indulgence thrown in for flavor.
I'm a Grunge, Classic Folk, and a touch of Melodic Hardstyle kind of guy for the last couple years now.
Arr sweet..Metal to classic? Ive moved from hip hop and rap to metal..hmm
And Nokturnal1..if i was to be honest i listen to celtic metal because of the folk instrumental music..
Not much into vocals..but it all adds up to good music ;D
Zealamatix, I know man! Thats what folk is all about, their music. I wouldn't consider Opeth, Iced Earth, folk.. I was just simply pointing out metal bands that have great vocalist since the author of the thread was obviously interested.
Besides, those growls grow on ya after some years of just listening to quality music
Just keep on truckin'
Dream Theatre
Snake River Conspiracy
Celtus
Collide
Azam Ali // Nas // Viyaz
Ye, would definitely check em out, but like mephisto said, all arent folk right? Some are gothic or heavy with elements of folk in em. Anyways i will check em out.
Yeah, sorry about that... it was late, and I was extremely tired... so I just pulled from a playlist all of the names without checking (then promptly passed out).
So, upon further review (and in order of personal favorites):
Tyr - "Sinklars Visa" & "Wings of Time"
Leaves' Eyes - "Elegy" & "The Crossing"
Asmegin - "Til Rondefolket's Herskab" & "Blodhevn"
Avantasia - "The Scarecrow" & "Avantasia" (( Not really folk metal ))
Gotan Project - "Lowground"
Turisas - "Battle Metal" & "Rasputin"
The rest are just bands I'm a fan of that sound similar enough to be put into the same playlist.
