As I've noticed that every current headline on Blizzard's page is about World of Warcraft (Blizzard's now forever cash cow), and I watch all the featurettes on WoW's website about the opening of the Burning Crusade and all the thousands of people that attended this event, I began to think of myself as this dark brooding Diablo fan hiding under a rock, feeling rejected, disenfranchised, and hopeless at the prospect of a future Diablo release.
Yet I manage to quietly celebrate one of the best fantasy games ever; take pride in one of the only games of its type to not feature any goddamn elves, and keep myself satisfied with playing Diablo, Diablo 2, and Lord of Destruction over and over again.
So while there is some lingering bit of light that is telling me one day if I'm patient enough, Diablo 3 will be created, I still feel a little slapped in the face by Blizzard for not offering me any bread crumbs at all that indicated all my hoping and praying for the next installment is not in vain.
the Warcraft Universe is just as worth to most of us as the Diablo Universe. It was its time to get some additions since it took many years till Warcraft 2 was out to Warcraft 3 and WoW.
Anyway, Blizzard said they'll definitely support their other existing franchises (with new games that is) as they said that within 2007 theres gonna be a major project announcement. I think/hope of Diablo III as most of the people in this forum. It cant take too long till we have official news. Great games require much time to make anyway, and we cant expect anything else from Blizzard for Diablo 3, can we?
patience is my advice! (And better find another game to play in the meantime).
I believe you're probably right. And I don't want you to think I take for granted all the contributions that everyone here has made to the Diablo franchise. I just have felt discouraged by all the publicity that World of Warcraft receives.
And I do comprehend the bigger picture, that with more revenues and careful marketing, Blizzard will be able to deliver a much better Diablo game. I was just venting, I suppose. Cause it's been so many years since (beside patches) anything really new has been announced in regards toward Diablo. So we can only hope that this announcement will have something to do with it.
since Blizzard pretty often mentions how they plan to continue the Diablo universe and with knowledge of 3 unannounced projects, well... i know we'll get Diablo 3 at some point in near future. 1-2-3 years from now? i dont really care, i just want an awesome game.
yea, im sucked into the WoW vortex now, and understand why its so popular. i have a comp that cant play music and diablo 2 at the same time, but it plays wow great (with everything at lowest). i lag less on WoW than i do on battlenet. nonetheless, i got something to entertain me while i wait. diablo 2 and wow. very good blizzard games.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

In fairness, most people who hate WoW have petty reasons anyway. And possibly just as many have never even played the game. I am among them. But I've never said I hate World of Warcraft. I've merely become disenchanted with it cause the hype is so sickening to me and I have a feeling that if I begin playing now, I'll be surrounded by people who have quit their jobs and dropped out of school just to become so powerful and be pretentious and snobby around my noob character.
These are only baseless fears, I suppose. But it was just like playing Diablo II on open battle.net, where it was difficult to just go on and have a good time without all the hardcore players harassing you to no end. Teasing you with what you think will be a trade for a great item then say, no just kidding. Or waiting for you to step outside of town so they can kill you with one hit and take your ear.
Yes, I'm sure this is not exactly how World of Warcraft works, but you still get my point, right?
i get ur point and now i know u dont like it cause u have absolutely no idea how things are in there.
Things as "pk", hacks the way there are in open (even closed) battle.net etc dont exist. If you want to duel you just challenge someone (or accept their challenge). If you want to lvl up you go do your quests. If you find them too hard to do alone you group. People that show off exist everywhere, thats nothing. There were always people with their great runewords in Diablo 2, epic gear in WoW, x/y in Everquest etc. The good thing about WoW is that if you put some effort in your character, you'll get what you want, more or less. WoW is one of the few games that lived to its hype. Thats why its still so popular 2 years from release (with only one expansion, not 1 every 6 months like Guild Wars).
have a go on the free trial they offer (if your computer can handle it) and see for urself how it is before "assuming" things. Even though the most interesting stuff you get to see in end-game usually, there's always something nice to find while levelling.
Games since Diablo II: LoD:
World of Warcraft III : Reign of Chaos
World of Warcraft III : The Frozen Throne
World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft : The Burning Crusade
I think the major product announcement of 2007 will include Diablo III. I have confidence in that. It's just that I too, like Siaynoq, feel forgotten.
Yea but 4 games in a row doesnt put alot of confidence in some of us. I am still feeling positive and keeping my chin up.

actually its 2 games. the addons didnt use different programmer teams than the original games. And they were both developed at the same time (after WC 3 release they announced WoW that came 1-2 years later i think).
Anyway, there are 3 unannounced projects, theres not much of a chance for Diablo 3 not to be one of them.

The people you encounter depends largely on server. Take EU Magtheridon for example. They continuously boast about how they are the best server, and frankly, they have a lt of players in there that play insane amounts of WoW. When a new event comes out, you can bet that Magtheridon puts it on "farm-status" first.
I would advise playing on an RP server. While they have their part of idiots that think RP means "Really Powerful", most of the time people are friendly, and you can find nice guilds that aren't focused on powergaming.

That's hilarious. Yet, I feel compelled to make one of those "Hey, the late nineties to early 2000 called. They want their gimmicky overused forum pic back."
was the best way to describe how i was at the time. the fact i found this picture on the internet helped alot. I dont care if its that much used tbh, as far as it gets over the message. Its classic!

Is this too negative a take on all this?

That's what we're all waiting for. When that finally comes, we can expect to see a surge of interest and new information.
