What does everyone think? I for one would love to see D3 on the Xbox or PS3 then using PSN or Xbox Live to group with other players would definitely make the game enjoyable. Not sure about the mechanics and whether either system could handle the load required but here's hoping.
I do want to point out that Everquest was on the PS3 at one point but soon was canceled due to the limitations of playing on a console. League of Legends is on the PS3 and PC where you can group using the PSN. Not sure of other games but it is possible so all I can say is I really hope this happens.
I like the idea personally. I know i might get hated for this but i loved Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance on console and Diablo 3 could have a very similar feel. Baldur's was great to play on the hardest difficulty but was limited in terms of challenges. I think playing it on console and with that extra challenge it will make the game great on both PC and console. My only issue would be running it for extended periods of time. My PS3 has an issue when i play Skyrim for too long and i would hate that to happen in Multiplay on D3
I don't know. I'd have to play it to come to a conclusion, but I think (I might be wrong) that people playing on consoles would be kind of technically limited. I feel it's not the same to play on a computer where you have dozens of buttons and mouse-fast turning, than on a controller with few buttons and stuff. Now, would they create a separate server for console players? That is a different story.
It'd be really hard to set up the UI and it wouldn't be the same for combat or gathering items. Also most games that were designed for PC that go console have a different look graphic wise and it probably wouldn't compete visually with newer games designed for Xbox or PS3. But there are plenty of games for the consoles that are similar to D3 that have a large fan base. In conclusion I think it could be done well but most Diablo fans are going to be picking it up on the PC because I don't think the console version would be able to compete with PC.
On PS3 sure, on Xbox 360 not so much.
You see, Diablo translates perfectly to consoles and console controllers. But Sony's cloud storage allows companies to update their products on the fly with absolutely no restrictions. Microsoft on the other hand has ONE free update allowed per game after which the developer has to spend 5+ figure numbers for each consecutive update.
Let's be honest here, Blizz is one of the companies that LOVES hotfixes. They literally update their games every week or so.
Another point is that companies like Sony, Valve and Blizz are working hard on getting a bridge between PlayStation and computers, to make them linked so players can buy the product on the console of their choosing and yet play cooperatively with friends that have the other console. That will be a big breakthrough for consoles as a whole. Microsoft, from what I've read the last few years are only trying to make the Marketplace integrated into Windows and possibly make it so if you buy an Xbox product you can download the equivalent on PC. Which isn't really that big of a deal. But time will tell, and I could be wrong about this. We'll see.
I couldn't disagree more. Any game that is highly reliant on the mouse and its accuracy translates horribly to consoles. Cases in point - RTS's and, yes, FPS's - some company (can't remember which one) did their own testing, pitting XBOX players vs. PC players in (I think) some CoD game, researching the possibility of allowing them all to play on the same servers. Long story short - the PC players destroyed the XBOX players, due to their superior accuracy with the mouse. In fact, console FPS's help you get your crosshairs on target.
I couldn't disagree more with your disagreement. FPS and RTS are absolutely trash on consoles if you ask me. But have you tried Torchlight or The Baconing? Control is absolutely smooth and wonderful. The only issue that would arise would be with targeting spells, but let's be honest. How many are there? And even if half of all spells and skills are targetable ones then Blizz will just make the console versions with a fixed value for distance on where the spell can drop. Console players will have no issue on running back 5 feet to expertly position their spells. Other options include selective or smart targeting where the game would choose which target to hit, because after all most targeting spells in ARPGs are AoE spells, so the monster that is surrounded by the greatest amount of other monsters would be the preferred target. Or the strongest monsters.
There's just so much that can be done to make it easier for console player and it would not effect the PC version by one bit.
It would actually be really easy to translate a game like Diablo to console.
Let's take the Xbox as an example. There are plenty of buttons that could be used to map the skills onto! The left and right triggers could be like the left and right mouse buttons, and then there's the standard A B X Y buttons that can be mapped, which can take up the spaces for the four skills on the bar. Although, the A button will definitely be used for picking up items, talking to NPC's, and opening doors and such. Select can be used for the potion slot, then there's the shoulder buttons..
As per every game, the left analog stick could be used to move the character, and the right stick for the map. The D-pad buttons could be used for, say, the inventory, skills, talents, etc. When you really think about it, isn't it pretty easy to bring it over to consoles? Of course, I kinda feel like a game with such a long history on the PC (save the Diablo game for the Playstation, or whatever it was!) should stay on the PC, but with Diablo III on the console, it could potentially open up the game to a bunch of new players. Don't we want to spread the love?

Whaaaat? That doesn't prove anything. Maybe those guys playing the game on the PC were just better than the Xbox players. Get real. I'm all for accuracy, but how much accuracy do you actually need in an FPS? If I shoot a guy in the head in an FPS game, is it seriously gonna make a difference if I should him dead center in the forehead or maybe just slightly below that? Maybe I shot him in the eye, or maybe the mouth. Is the game programming gonna be that picky about it? Do I really need millimeters more of accuracy?
I just hate this whole lack of accuracy with the controller argument. Not even because the mouse and keyboard may be accurate, but because how much precise accuracy do you seriously need? A headshot is a headshot in any reasonable game. You shoot someone in the torso, it's not gonna be picky whether you shot the guy in the heart or merely...I don't know, the lung! And even all this is besides the point. Because one type of controls is not necessarily better over the other. It depends on how best the individual plays with it. For some, they just play best on a controller and others play better and those....mouse things...
I mean, is there a game that shoots off someone's ear because you just barely missed the head? I don't think so. You either shoot their fucking head or you don't.
All this said, I actually will admit that I think D3 won't play that well on a controller. See how reasonable I'm willing to be on this? I'm willing to admit that a mouse would be far superior to play D3 on, yet I'm also suggesting that maybe that whole accuracy argument is blown way out of proportion. I mean, so some CoD players on a PC kicked some CoD players' asses on an Xbox. That doesn't mean shit. Even if it did mean shit, it still misses the point. Even if accuracy isn't overrated, it is overestimated in lots of games because it's not like games are THAT realistic to demand such pin point accuracy.
Well it would be good for Blizzard. Edit: And console gamers who don't have a decent PC indeed.
I personnaly would never buy such a game on consoles because it is made for PC and plays a lot better on PC.
I don't have anything against Blizzard making it on consoles, as long as they don't allow cross platform online gaming. I don't want to have someone playing with a controller in my party on Inferno.
But then there are the other hundreds of thousands of players (specially in the US and Asia) that prefer giving not more then $250 for a game station and not building their own PCs or spending thousands on a premade one, while altogether wanting to play the same quality games as PC players!
I think cross platform gaming is actually a pretty awesome innovation. I wish I could get Halo Reach for PC and play it against Xbox gamers.
Oh that would just be lovely, wouldn't it?
You can add Gears of War to that list. The action games the console fans think are made for consoles. *giggle*

Diablo however, easily could. That might by why they are limiting the number of skills you have. It would be easy to translate into a controller then.
