If you want to arrange it
This world you can change it
If we could somehow make this
Christmas thing last
By helping a neighbor
Or even a stranger
And to know who needs help
You need only just ask
So you could know which party member isn't carrying their own weight or which one of ur friends need to step their game up. If inferno is really tough, it could prove useful.
Total DPS of a character does not incorporate a players skill, attack rotation, rage / mana management etc.
I hope you're joking around. The argument of "don't try to make this like WoW" is way overused on every MMO forum and completely retarded. Same thing happened on Rift forums when people asked for meters or other things that are QUALITY OF LIFE issues or just fun things to analyze to know what the heck is going on.
Right now, there are people saying "go back to WoW" to people on SW:TOR forums who want a COMBAT LOG. A freakin' COMBAT LOG!!! There's nothing wrong or "wowish" about a combat log, it's a tool some people use to gain more information / knowledge...
I need to know who to eRage at when we continually fail to kill bosses in inferno.
If you fail at a boss it wont be one persons fault. You will need to talk it over and use teamwork to revise your strategy if the boss is killing you that much. It won't be "Just a single DPS's fault."

Exactly.
Everyone knows its always the healers fault.
So just blame the monk.

Do you want to get scammed? Perhaps a nice keylogger?
"Just google "diablo 3 gold guide" and magical rainbow covered demons will assault your eyes."

OFc, and if that person cant even do dmg properly then theres no point in discussing strategy with them since doing dmg should be and IS the most simple thing. If they dont know which skills and how to use correctly then GG.

This is not world of warcraft, you wont be 40man fighting a boss. If you feel someone in your party has a low knowledge about the game, dont party with him thats all. Make your own game and password. We wont force you to carry anybody. Beside you can clearly tell if a player is weak or not. if you kill 5 monster and he still struggle to the same monster. Just tell him he's not ready for this and leave him behind.
I dont want this game to be like: "you must be this tall to enter my awesome room" like world of warcraft is doing with Gearscore and item level.
DPS is a lousy stat to track, anyway. Most monsters are supposed to die very, very quickly. The ones that aren't require some tactics, which doesn't translate into flat DPS. Especially given the random nature of monster affixes and potential overlap of multiple champion groups/events. You'll need a lot of non-DPS abilities to deal w/ what the game throws at you.
However, I would LOVE to see an EKPH meter (Elite Kills Per Hour, Elite being defined as champions, rares, mini-bosses and bosses). Since that's where the phat loot comes from, that's the most important statistic. EKPH is a function of almost everything, your damage, AoE, CC, defense, movement, group tactics, merc tactics, resource management, etc. That would be a more useful stat to track and experiment w/.
While were at it , add mounts , ep/gp , all those wow 3rd party software and make it a WoW2 yay? Dps metter would be a dumb idea it would be like an elitist dream , It's a hack and slash game where monsters die quickly .. No need of a dps metter

This is Diablo... there are no attack rotations. It's a HACK AND SLASH. Have you even played d1/d2 at all?!?! Or any other hack and slash for that matter... nothing to do with the WoW factor, it's mixing game genres
i dont think its a valid argument to say a dps meter doesn't fit with the genre. you're dealing damage, and it would be neat to have it tracked in real time.
however, i do think its a valid argument to say a dps meter will cause some annoying social issues, such as elitism, player-imposed restrictions, and epeen rage.

not worth it, imo.
I agree.
There will be ways to know if other players are not up to par. What I personally will miss though is ways to benchmark myself. I've always enjoyed optimizing stuff to push out that extra dps, it will be hard to measure tiny differences without a dps meter.
I'm not saying it will matter very much in actual combat, but I still enjoyed having a solid number to look at. These kinda games are all about gear and gear is all about numbers. Who doesn't love number?!!
It'd be nice if they had a dps meter that was small and non invasive which only tracked you own character's dps, but not the parties, then people could use it to maximize there own builds and find the best way to do the most damage without ruining the "causual play with everyone/just have fun" thing D3 is going for.

Will there be a DPS meter or the possibility of having it as an add on?

Same thing with a DPS meter.

That said I don't think a DPS meter is necessary.
