Looks like there is some evidence supporting a early / mid-december release date of Diablo 3...
Maybe its nothing, or just a coincidence, but the leaked beta downloader has a verisign certificate attached to it which verifies its authenticity. The expiration date of the certificate is december 5th, 2011. Does it make sense that the beta certificate would expire only days, or a couple weeks before the release of the full version? We can hope right?
weird, mine is from 08 january 2010 to 6 december 2011
What time zone are you in?
gmt +2
Thats why. I'm in CA. The cert was signed to expire at 4:59:59. + 10 hours to that since they are in the same time zone as me, and you have crossed the midnight barrier and landed in a new day.
This just places a ceiling on the duration of the beta unless the certificate can be renewed, but a useful tip for estimating on when it get's shipped. Late December or early January.
Just to be clear: Sixen lists this as official release date. Does that mean he has confirmation from Blizzard officials that this is true, or is this still still speculation?
Nah, he's just linking to topics on the leaks. It's not a confirmation of any kind. I doubt Sixen has the exact date when Diablo III is being released anyway.
They can't have a release date before the testing begins. They only know how many bugs after the beta is over.
And also, if you hope for a 2011 release, you are also hoping that the Beta would finish before Dec. 5th, because after the Beta is over they have to prepare a lot of things, the game have to go gold, the boxes/DVDs/manuals have to be printed/burned, the boxes have to be distributed along the world... I don't see that happening in less than a month.
Beta starting in September, going through to November, then realeasing in December is a nice guess I would add.
Nice find. It doesnt have to mean anything tho.
As said they can issue a new certificate if they please (im pretty sure)
The game can also be released before this date. Because a certificate on a beta downloader expires 5th of december doesnt mean that the game cant be released before this date
Here' to hoping for a november release
Where do you get November out of all of that? December or later, dude.

Beta and D3 going gold are independent of each other. Even if beta turns out to be a bugfest they can still issue a day1 patch to fix it at "physical" release.
Not entirely.
While the game itself is content done, and could therefor, theoretically go gold already now, the beta is still a prerequisite of figuring out the release date as they still need the beta to finetune the server infrastructure, otherwise they're basically banking on the fact that they have no idea how the client will work in a live enviroment and that they can fix all of this before the release.
I would expect that they have the information they need shortly after the beta, but definitely not before.

I'm shitting bricks right now. We can dream
I wouldn't say that him linking to this post is any real confirmation. Interesting find though. Hard to say what it really means, but ~early December release isn't unlikely.

Agreed, I believe he should change the way he stated it though. "Diablo 3 Official Release Date 12/5/11" is rather presumptuous.
Why does it say official release date 12/5/11? Then you read and it is NOT an official release date. Messin' wit the Diablo release date is like messin' wit my emotions!

I also I doubt they had a clue about a release date when they had the certificate issued over a year and a half ago...
