to be more specific,
"trait x",
rank 1: Increases armor by 20%
rank 2: by 40%
and so on...
And not something similar to talents or rune effects. Traits are traits.
Correct me if i am wrong though. Although this is what a blue commented:
We agree, and they were removed from Traits a while back. (not that you could have known that) So yay!
We don’t want traits (passives) to be boring. Even the ones that are pretty bland stat increase type passives, we try to make them feel weighty. Trait points are fairly rare, so that lets us make each point feel a lot sexier to spend. Even if they’re just standard +% stat passives, they’re BIG +% increases. But, there’s also a lot of traits that are fairly intricate in what they provide, and to no small degree can be game changers. Either way they’ll be a crucial component to any character build.
Lucky increases gold find by 10%. It’s tough to say how that kind of thing will balance out. It wouldn’t be worth taking until at least Nightmare, IMO, and even then a trait point is a fairly powerful thing. I don’t know if I’d spend it on gold find. But, that’s kind of a cool choice then, right?
Intimidation is… ??? I don’t have all traits memorized, and maybe it changed names. (or was removed)

Monsters killed by the wizards Frost Nova, Ray of Frost and Blizzard have a chance to explode in a hail of frozen shards. (small radius AOE)
instead of just a % chance to explode, how about everytime those skills cause a crit death? (which would also create the frozen shard animation)
EDIT: sry didn't even add my own
(and sry for the TF2 rip)
class: Barbarian
trait: "kill everyone you meet"
Ranks: 1
Effect: build up a killstreak of a certain amount, say 3-5 or so (kills need to be withing 4 sec of eachother), and receive a buff: + %damage, + %Attack speed, etc.
releases buff 10 sec after killstreak ends.
that actually sounds like a skill lol, but i like it.

Traits are just passive effects. Skills and Traits used to be all the same, but Blizz decided it wasn't as cool to spend one of your hard-earned skill points on a passive ability, so they separated them into Traits. Some examples of real Traits that we do know of:
Barbarian Massive Blow
Ranks: 1 The Barbarian has a chance to hit all nearby targets with a single hit while wielding a two-handed weapon.
Monk Precision
Ranks: 5 Increases the Monks's melee damage done by each point of dexterity.
Witch Doctor Leader of the Pack
Ranks: 1 Increase spell damage by 5% for every Zombie Dog under your control.
Wizard Ball of Lightning
Ranks: 1 Periodically shocks a nearby enemy for 1-120 lightning damage.
So, yes, while gold find and extra armor are good examples of Traits, (most of) the suggestions in this thread are still passive effects, even if they're somewhat more "active" than an armor buff.
Barbarian Monster Magnet
Ranks 3 Barbarian screams and chants in the black metal vocal style of the merciless ancients, initially pacifying all monsters into a frontal cone. Monsters then begin to "mosh" and "rock face" because that rock is heavy, boy. Then some douchebag monster in the mosh pit starts throwing punches and then a bigger monster lays him out, then a fight breaks out and the whole thing turns into a giant brawl and all monsters rip each others heads off before the barbarian can even finish his set.

-Tank Barb
-Offensive Barb
