WoW DOES take from Diablo. Also, you should know that they are LIMITED to the amount of polygons they can use. They're making a game not painting a picture. Everything needs to be OPTIMIZED. The graphics are better than any other game of this genre out there.
And tell me that the descriptions and such don't INSTANTLY remind you of WoW. Or that magic in Sanctuary has gone from Elemental to including Conjures and Arcane.
I'm honestly not bothered by it, Blizzard can do whatever they want, I'm just voicing my opinion so that hopefully, all aspects of a situation are examined. I'll never understand why forums always polarize into people criticizing and people defending, the defenders always seem to have a personal stake in the game development, while the criticizers always seem to want to just tear down.
As a fence sitter, I'll wait and see, while at the same time try to add in constructive criticism which hopefully is taken in good humour.
Lol I'm not really defending it much here, just saying I love what I see so far and pointing out a few Blizzard things as well as having a few laughs.
You don't have to show me those for my consideration though, those are my posts ;). Hope you went over the fourth one and watched the video it shows as well : )
What Blizzard is doing is moving Diablo to a more WoW oriented style, to make transition of their 9 million playerbase easier and facilitate sales. In much the same way as a PC game will be dumbed down in development due to the console market (i.e. Oblivion), Diablo is being streamlined for the WoW market. Which is why if you look at the Wizard skill tree for example, it reads almost like the skill descriptions of the WoW Mage. Blizzard probably thought they were being clever in naming the class Wizard, to throw off people's claims that they are basically copying WoW's concept.
And what makes Blizzard think it takes gluing WoW's art style and features to Diablo 3. I think the only reason Diablo 3 looks like WoW in certain aspects is because Blizzard has been saturated in WoW the past few years, so unless they hire a completely new team to work on Diablo 3, some aspects of Diablo 3 will look similar to WoW's art especially since the head director of WoW is a lead in Diablo 3's production. It's not very hard to create something original though. If what you say is true, then Blizzard basically believes people's brains are set to WoW and noting else. If I play Resident Evil for example, I Do Not want to see similar features and art style in Silent Hill. Two similar genres but enterirely different franchises.
If I was a hardcore WoW fan, loved it, played it 12 hours a day, and thought it was the best game. I'd still want an entirely different game from Blizzard that didn't have anything related to WoW in it. I think Diablo 3 shares similarities to WoW due to them being built on the same engine and Blizzard's last few years of exposure to WoW's features up until now.
They chose the art direction they wanted to use, they chose the graphics they did in order to run efficiently on the broadest range of PC's which has nothing to do with dumbed down graphics on a console. By the time Diablo 3 releases, there will probably be several graphical tweaks, upgrades, additions, art style tweaks and changes, and a highly customizable graphics menu. Blizzards focus is PC first, so this will be a PC port to consoles, so I don't think menu/GUI quality should be a problem..atleast I hope not.
One long lost lonely apple tree gone to the wind in the world of ice and marshmellows because the cigar lighter laughed out loud in the clouds. But you know what, why do we care your leaving ? I'm just replying to this guys opinion, screw the thread topic.

I LOL'D. Do you know what a game engine is :P? Because after that statement I highly doubt so.
Diablo III's engine shares some minor similarities to the starcraft II in-game engine with regard to particle effects and animation...and that's about it As for WoW- the engine is no where near the vicinity of similar to D3
Well look at it this way the inventory thing you can live without. You aren't going to quit playing a game for that kind of reason that ridiculous.
I must admit the auto stats thing is pretty lame... but they have their reasons...
The whole rune thing being able to customize your skills thing is fucking awesome... that's innovative
Not ridiculous, the auto stat thing stinks, and Sacred 2 let's you customize skills when get a certain amount of stats in the tree.
So I think the most blamers and whinners whould be sattisfied with "Diablo 2" gameplay (maybe story also!) and Crysis engine graphics...You're so lame!!!!
I'm assuming you are referring to my previous post and if you actually read it properly you would have seen that I was against Crysis engine graphics. And I agree have an opinion but don't flip out about it. As someone else said, this IS subject to change still. People probably flipped out with the changes from DI to DII and now everyone is doing the same with DII and DIII. And if they ever decide to make a DIV then some people will probably dislike the changes in that too. Blizzard can't please everyone. Let them make their game. Give constructive criticisim, don't just say it is crap, say why and maybe even give an opinion on how to fix it.
i beleive that if diablo 1 and 2 are the only games that you have ever really played then you have to room to talk about diablo 3. yes, diablo 3 is different. play more video games and maybe you will realize some of the flaws in the diablo games. i dont 100% agree with all of their decistions so far, but i havent played the game yet and neither have you so we cant critisize it too harshly
All these changes Blizzard made on D3, its awesome. We just gotta try something new, we will not be happy if blizzard makes D3 90% similar to D2. Then wats the point of D3?
1) Many great points have already been made in this topic:
o Diablo has never been about the graphics
o The flaws will be there if you zoom in by 300% and waste time to point it out
o You hate the graphics because you work with it! Do you care at all about the algorithms being used to program the ragdoll physics? Why is a corpse sliding at the same speed on different terrains? Why won't bones brake when I step over it? My point is, you're able to see flaws that 99% of the people never realise so why care?
2) Caring this much about the inventory system is lame.
3) A meelee Wizard with tons of strengh is not a Wizard. A real meelee Wizard would have tons of energy/intelligence and specialise on close combat spells. What defines a Wizard is the use of Magic! Strength is not magical unless you're casting a spell to increase your strength. But you're still obtaining it through magic which is what a Wizard is!
I think Blizzard sees it this way too. Classes need to be very unique! You will be able to be a meelee Wizard but through skill choices, not stats.
What you want with full stat customization is that all classes can be any other, they just look different. More less like what we had in Diablo 1 with a Knight shooting fireballs.
4) I've had this idea for a long time and Blizzard went ahead and implemented it to my favorite game! I couldn't be happier! The level of customization allowed by this new system will overcome the fact that you can't change base stats.
5) What if you didn't have powerleveling? Would you still enjoy creating a whole character from scratch because of one lame mistake?
I would be much more satisfied with a longer route to max level but with respecs along the way. I am very faithful to my characters and I hate to make a new one of the same class just to correct a mistake, to just change the style or experiment. As an avid MMORPG player I tend to get really involved with the character I'm making. I like to play with my character as long as possible and I think they should really bring this MMO aspect into Diablo 3.
I agree with #3. Changing things to make them noob friendly is rediculous. Now I will never be able to make the Melee Wizard I would have though of making... or the crazy dex barb with max block and 100% chance to hit...etc...etc....
I want choices. I loved diablo 2 because of choices. Don't take them away from me for horrible reasons.
At some point, the consumer is responsible for keeping up with current technology. If we followed your logic, developers would still be designing with the Commodore 64's specs.
I want an inventory where the amount carried is felt. D2 was better because you didn't have the rediculous option of carrying twenty suits of armor alongside thirty different weapons.
Baldur's Gate is based on an entirely different system. Plus, D&D's natural evolution has gone from a static attribute system to one where you DO increase it as you level, subject to play balance. To go from more customization to less is bass ackwards.
I thought it was fine given the scope of the game. Having all those different skills, while of course giving rise to "cookie-cutter" builds, also allowed for experimentation and creativity. The addition of synergies in LoD further refined the concept. It was MORE choice and customization.
For D3 to have FEWER skills radically alters the gameplay experience. Having 6 or 9 fully fleshed out skills as your only choices IMHO is worse than having 30 skills that you can mix and match, especially given the improvements LoD brought. D3 should have MORE than 30 skills per character with the skill system they're putting in place.
I'm on the fence about re-speccing. Its not very RPish, but allows for less downtime as you learn the game and character class. I hope re-speccing isn't one of the "monetized features" though, because that's a shitty way to backdoor noobs.
Hah, seems like you can stay playing D2 while we play D3.. cya
All I really have to say to those who are whining about respecs is this...
Piss off! I personally don't want to re-make a character of the same exact class just because I made a mistake or didn't really understand the difference between some skills or other...
If you don't like the idea of respeccing, don't use it. However, quit being an ass and demanding Blizzard take it out for the many others who would really love to have that option.
As for the inventory system... how could you have liked that old system? It absolutely sucks to have to sit there and re-arrange the crap in your inventory. BORING.. One slot, one item is much nicer.
Find it amazing how people know how similar characters will be with auto stat-distribution
The game isn't complete, things could change, and most of the people here haven't actually played it
Let the dev's make their game, you play the game, THEN you make judgements on the game. If you want a game with no auto stat assignment and no respeccing, then you play a game that already exists like that, or create a game that you like
Yeah I really don't get the respec whiners like many here have said...
You actually liked re-rolling a class just because you figured out the skill you decided to max was worse for hell mode than some other skill?
Honestly, that hatred for respec seems to be a blind hatred because it is synonymous with WoW instead of it being a player control mechanic. Learn to make a valid argument here instead of - HEY I'm bored and jobless enough TO PLAY 5million Characters to lvl 99! SO I LIKE BEING PENALIZED FOR MISTAKES!
You want to whine about stats being taken away and control being lost? Think about what you're gaining in terms of respeccs and skill tree options. Your melee wizard deal is in there via spectral blade improvements and what not -just not in the stupid stat pumping way you remember.
In fact, Diablo 1 and 2 are the only computer games I have ever considered myself a fan of. Other games I never played more than a week...whereas I played Diablo 1 and 2 for many years each.
Today is Blizzcon and I should be more pumped than ever about Diablo 3. However, the more information about the game I learn, I must confess that I only grow more disappointed. This doesn't sound like a game that respects what we have come to love about the Diablo franchise, and I think I'm going to stop spending my time on the forums giving feedback and suggestions.
My reasons for having lost interest are the following:
1) Poor graphics. As a digital artist who specializes in both 2D digital painting and 3D modeling, I have a keen eye for graphics. I do not appreciate the low contrast outdoor scenes, the low poly geometry, the excessive use of bright colors, the cartoony look, nor the lack of normal bump maps. I do not feel that the dungeons look dark or gloomy at all. It all looks incredibly cheesy and I can't believe they are using such out-dated low poly models. Come on. This is Blizzard, can't you hire some artists that are AT LEAST industry-PAR? This looks like the graphics from 5 years ago. It looks like WoW graphics.
2) The inventory system has been demolished. One of the main reasons I loved Diablo was that it used the novel puzzle-style inventory. I thought this was obsolutely genious. It allowed the player to reorganize their backpack in a way that felt like I was actually reorganizing a backpack. That was fun. It also made big items feel bigger and more important than small items. It looks like a WoW inventory.
3) I do not like the automatic distribution of attribute points. This is incredibly lame.
4) I do not like the new skill point assignment system. It forces players to put many skill points into low-level skills before unlocking high level skills. It also has very few options about specific damage dealing moves, which are gained at low levels and simply buffed up throughout. I don't want to be using the same skill at level 90 that someone uses at level 1, and I don't want my only specialization options to be which buffs I choose to put on my lightning bolt, or whatever. I hear this is like WoW.
5) I do not like the allowance for respeccing. It like to plan out a character and have to make good decisions that I will be penalized for later on. If I make a mistake, then that's just replayability. NO amount of respeccing comes without detriment to the games replayability. I think this is like WoW too.
These are my major complaints, and I hope that someone reads them and takes note. I am sure I am not the only hardcore lifelong blizzard fan who feels betrayed by Blizzard now. They clearly consider themselves the cat's meow, but I just hope they aren't so cocky that they have to wait until they see they are not getting the kind of sales they expected to realize that all their butchery to what made Diablo great comes at a cost.
RESPECT THE FRANCHISE.
1. I agree, sorta. I'm not wild about how everything blends together as a whole, because frankly, it doesn't. the 3d background doesn't look right with the characters somehow. But then again, it's better than WoW and WAY better than D2, so overall it's an improvement
2. agreed aslo. I liked having to decide what i wanted to carry at all times vs what i wanted to pick up, it gave fighting for items another thing to think about. On the other hand, we no longer will have to fight over items...so...it serves its' own purpose
3. personally i love it. But i am a bit biased, as i am a WoW player and i've seen how well it works.
4. Once again, this works. Don't think of it as "low level skills" so much as "buffing up early skills." Trust me, in WoW you still use some of your level 1 abilities, but you ALSO use plenty of new ones. It allows you to pick your favorite skills and perfect them as you see fit. This is not a limiting system at all, in fact, it opens more doors than you would expect
5. Respeccing allows you to change mistakes, or try out new/different ideas without actually having to make a whole other character just to get high level, again, with the same class you've already done it with, just to try it. I understand this may seem to remove some replayability, but first of all there's plenty of other classes, and second of all most people get totally bored playing the same class over and over again just to try out a couple things differently. putting one point into something else shouldn't require you to regret one tiny little mistake, otherwise everyone would play hardcore mode and spend all their time "replaying" the game every time they died. (granted that i did this for a long time, when i didn't have a job
