It seems that the "paladin", while a blizzard trademark, is overused in games today. Thus I don't think we will be seeing a "paladin" in D3, the blizz team is trying to make new and original characters and I just don't see it happening. But then who will take the place of the "soldier of light". There HAS to be a character like this in diablo, its way to fitting for them to just leave him out.
This brings me to my main point. What if insted of a human paladin, you got to actulay play as an arch-angel? It would be quite easy to fit into the game and is somthing that has not been done before.
story line
The "arch-angel" was an angel in gods army who had his "wings" removed and must now help fight the darkness along side the mortals to earn his wings back.
What do you think??

since theres going to be limited classes, a spin off of the pally may be used. your idea is a little far-fetched, but rest assured there will be a soldier of light

Remember the String of Ears
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
No, they want completely new and distinct characters, which they've said numerous times. There won't be a replacement or spin-off.
gasp! blasphemy! no soldier of light archetype? lets get a poll and a hundred "bring back the pally" threads and a official and non official petition!
but seriously, u think they really would scrap that archetype? they brought back the barb, he is part of the lore and story, but hes iconic to the franchise, as is the pally, both come from the warrior dont they?

If you told me a witch-doctor would be in the game I would of thought you were insane : )

Completely new and distinct characters? ummm.....barbarian? : P
While I doubt there will actual be an arch-angel.......you never know. I just don't think we will see a paladin as we remeber him.

A first generation Nephalem (not original first gen but a first born after the world stone collapse) could be the replacement, since the worldstone was imbued with a power to weaken them and it's now gone, a first generation could have quite a lot of power.
It seems that the lore is linking back more and more to the humans' ancestral heritage to demons and angels. So maybe we will see a class that is descended directly from Lilith and Ingarius (sp) that have both light and dark tendincies. Because the conflict will be between Heaven and Hell, I believe Blizzard will try to mix both light and dark in their replacement for the Paladin.

Why can't a heterosexual guy tell a heterosexual guy that he thinks his booty is fly?

That's exactly what i'm talking about, the Nephalem were the first generation humans born of demons and angels.

By golly I think you've got it! The sin wars book says that they are demon and angel spawed.....and could grow to become strong then both!!

...had a nightmare ...Tyrael finally embraced the shadows... damn Wstone.
"So we're trying to that right kind of balance between Diablo I and Diablo II
dungeons, but with maybe a bit more of a World of Warcraft exterior experience"
If I remember correctly Barbarians are everywhere and paladins are almost nowhere, 20 years is a long time in this world, only a few true paladins would remain.

My mediocre attempt at making a Signature.

Back on topic though.....Any more idea on a new paladin-like character?
