ROFLOFLOFL. You're kidding me right? Ever heard of a country called Korea? They have stadiums there for that game.... Stadiums... And you call that no overobsession?
PS: In response to Sabacca, keep in mind that Guild Wars is not P2P, but it's the same type of game as WoW.
Guild Wars is more like Diablo than it is WoW. It is P2P because all you do is stand in a city (Chat room) and then go into a dungeon alone (like making a game in Diablo) or going into a dungeon with someone (players joining a game in Diablo) - the world is not persistant, or alive, thats why it is not monthly, like WoW. Guild Wars =/= WoW -- Guild Wars = Diablo.
Also: The more obsession a game gets you, the more popular it is. 9 mil+ for wow, or 250k+ for EQ?
Heh. if your asking for Diablo III to not let players get obsessed = not as popular. When Diablo II was popular before WoW, it was one of the biggest obesssions.

No, that's called
cybersport.
And you lived in Korea? Which one?
I do not remember such major issues with Diablo 2 as with WoW. I don't remember people doing it in reality THAT MUCH that we have this website: http://www.wowdetox.com/
And about Warcraft. It was supposed to be a game to Games Workshops tabletop, Warhammer. I think they were under pressure to make the game world different, because WC1 and 2 were kinda similiar to Warhammer
Blizzard were hired by Games Workshop to make a warhammer game for PC, there was a falling out and blizzard took what they had made and called it warcraft.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I have no problem with games making money, but if the profit is what drives the game design and creation, then that is screwed up. I like to buy a game, and pay my 50 bucks, and never think about it again. With pay to play games, it is obvious that the design from the start is all about making money, and that is what drives the gameplay.
I don't know what you guys are arguing about obsession. I think competition is good. Korea is hardcore, and its too bad the U.S. isn't.
I am sure that Diablo 3 will be like Diablo 2 and Diablo. Like I said before, Blizzard has more sense than that. I just hope that it is not Pay to Play. Blizzard knows they will make more money this way, but it will sell less.

The irony of more Diablo copies sold than WoW, is that WoW is Blizzard's license to print money. But as for the game, you're right that they wouldn't change the interface or the way it plays. It's what made the game, and what will keep it looking like diablo.
But as for the game, you're right that they wouldn't change the interface or the way it plays. It's what made the game, and what will keep it looking like diablo.
But they changed it for WC3. How do you know they don't decide D2 wasn't all that popular and make a whole different game with the same universe?
But they changed it for WC3. How do you know they don't decide D2 wasn't all that popular and make a whole different game with the same universe?
Because there is a tremendous following to Diablo, mostly because of how it was. There are others of these forums just dedicated to diablo, and it shows on the book sales. Not to mention all the attention they get when there is any chance of an announcement. We pelt them with questions on diablo 3 every chance we get, and they know how important it is to keep the basic structure the same. Look at SC2, they kept the similar interface just cleaned it up a bit.
There were a lot of WC2 fans waiting for WC3 and it was big news and all and then it kinda all died away where WC2 fans went to WC2 and WC3 fans was a whole different group of people. Why did they call it WarCraft? Because there was a WarCraft fanbase which would pay for WarCraft III no matter how different or bad or whatever it was. They can do that to Diablo, or they may choose not to. SC so far seems similar but we really don't know that yet. WC3 kinda looked similar to WC2 at first. But when it came out it had nothing to do with it.
There is a possibility that the fanbase you are talking about is not all that big and all that loyal, because WC2 was a big fanbase and Blizzard didn't give a damn about what the WC2 people thought.
And then there was another situation, Heroes 3 vs Heroes 4 and the company made a different game over the requests of the fanbase and the fanbase that requested it didn't like it, lol
So Blizzard may base their choice to change or to leave Diablo the way it is not on what YOU think, but on what THEY think will bring more MONEY. And you don't even know what kind of game you want. Some people just want an expansion and updated graphics sometimes but not a new game... it's more complicated than that.
I realize this forum may have gotten a little off-topic (if it hasn't, I apologize, I was too lazy to read it all), but a comment on the original statement:
Blizzard games is the best of the best, and I and most of my friends would probably play nothing not made by Blizzard were it not for Halo. . . and Fancy Pants. . . and Deus Ex, but that's it. . .
Rock on, Blizzard!! w00t!!!

I was one of the many people dissapointed in Warcraft 3. However, it is crucial to realize that Warcraft 3 was made specifically for WoW. They wanted players to play epic battles in this "new" universe, before they got to the individual leveling up in WoW. That is why the heroes thing was in War3. To promote a Warcraft RPG, and to differentiate from Starcraft. The reason why the new races were introduced in Warcraft 3 (Night Elf, Undead, Tauren...) was because in the MMORPG, they wanted to set themselves apart from Everquest.
The good news is, there is no way they are turning the Diablo series into a different genre. Warcraft, it was easy to see the RPG potential. And Starcraft, it is easy to see the FPS potential. But Diablo, there is no potential for any other type of genre.
The only thing that there is potential for, is persistant world MMORPG. However, Blizzard does not want to split there fanbase with 2 MMORPGs. They will not get any more money this way.
The only thing to worry about then, is Pay to Play. Blizzard might get greedy with Battle.net 2.0, and charge a fee for use. This is also a concern with Starcraft 2.
To Carloseus: Like I said before, if it is Pay to Play, they will sell less, but they will make more money.
Blizzard will not even launch a game that will disapoint them. They already made Diablo III and it WAS a disapointment, so they fired Blizzard North for wasting their time, and now Blizzard believes that they have made Diablo III again, but without the disapointment.
Good job trolling, though.
I'm allowed to express my opinion and it's not trolling. Do I detect a pissed off blizzard fanboy here? I bet if blizzard sold a shit sandwich you would eat it, and then go blog about how great it was.
If you pay to play, the game itself should be a free download. Simple as that.
Dunno how that would help.

We should not allow game companies monopolize their possibility of charging us without them CONSIDERABLY improving game quality. And I really don't see what is wrong with Diablo 2 that it needs to be pay-to-play.

Please look up your numbers; Diablo II did not sell 20 million boxes, Also, WoW has 9 million ACTIVE subscribers - they have sold way over 9 million boxes.. some people are not actively subscribed atm. I would really love to see the correct information.

Pay to play is for customer service, highest quality of servers possible, the maintenance of those servers, in depth patches and fixes, and other types of services. You cannot pay for that with just box sales. WoW has around 2400 employees just for customer service, if there was no monthly fee, there would be no customer service and tickets would take weeks to complete. 14.99 a month to have very high quality service is always worth it compared to no customer service because someone was too poor to pay 15 dollars a month.. maybe people shouldn't be playing computer games if they can't afford 50 cents a day?
Trolling is posting a topic and wording your post in a way that will draw players to argue with you. You were trolling, and if you weren't, Please word your posts correctly with proper information to back up your opinions so we can see why you want use to believe what you are saying. Also, if you can, leave out the 13 year old insults, thats not needed here.
Yea.. times may be changing, but that isn't always a good thing. And in this case, it is not a good thing at all.
If I pay $50 for a game, and then I am asked to spend $15 each month paying to actually play the damn game, the game better be the best game ever.
However... guess what! So far all the games that ask you to do that suck (and they are all the same, copying each other)
Also, If I am paying $15 a damn month, every 4 months should be a free expansion. But instead, you have to go to the damn store and buy that for another $50. Screw that!
If you defend pay to play as it is now, you like to waste money! And if you think Blizzard can do no wrong, you are mindless.
