Most games have the range+damage calculator its just no apparent because with melee you're in such close quarters it seems like the damage shown in the weapon is more in your head rather then being like "im x distance away + y damage from sword = z actual damage". you think about how much damage your weapon creates from the minimum damge and a guess at how much from min to max you actually got. wow that took alot to get out lol

Thats just the thing, we don't want it to be like WoW. Diablo has to be its own separate entity just because. The mounts idea isn't bad just that it bringning the the worlds closer when they should be farther apart

Being able to create your own spells would be nice. You can do that in the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
That actually took me by surprise, I never even would've thought of that. Good job.

I'd like to see different shades of colors for socket items; I'm tired of seeing everyone the same color because they all have an archon plate Enigma. I'd like to be able to make an Enigma in a blue armor, or yellow, something...

Yeah it would be cool if you could sutomize your armour. Like taking it to the smith or something and being able to choose a colour or a personal colour scheme for a certain amount of gold.

I would like to be able, once equipping an item, set how you want to wear the item. for example, let's say the item is a scarf or a bandana, you should be able to choose if you want to wrap it around your neck, wrap it around your head ( like a pirates bandana ), wrap it around your arm or your weapon.

Would this be going as far to say having a character that is completely customizeable in every sense? down to the smallest detail?

Yes, I would like to see someone create new advancements in adventure rpg gameplay, such being able to customize your character and his equipment and how it looks on your character, to the smallest degree, and I think Blizzzard should bring this into diablo 3.
me too. that is the only new thing I would like to see in D3, to change the look of all your equipment.
...Indeed!
I would also like to see the character Halbu in the next game, simply because his suit of armor is the coolest, I remember wishing I could find a suit that would make my character look like him, when I played D2 as a kid, or better yet, kill him off, so that we can have his set in D3. They should make a set of Halbu's getup.
Sorry for diverting the topic, but i want random quests to be brought back in D3. I think certain plot quests should be in the game every time, but have there random other quests, to get things like cool armor or weapons. Example: D1 had the lazarus and diablo quests non-random, while the rest are randomized. Diablo 3 would have more plot quests, but i feel like quests like the horadric malus quest would be one thats random. Also, quests that add stats or resistances shouldn't be random, since it would put people at an advantage who get those certain quests every single time. Just my two cents :P.
^^^ in reference to the lottery/random and side quests:
Quote from "Paladin88" »
There weren't any side quests in Diablo 2 & LoD because side quests in the form in which we're used of thinking and imagining them were not needed.
The basic point of side quests is to somewhat cause a feeling of choice and ununiformity.
Whether the point of side-quests is to 'relax' the player and provide a small rest from pursuing the 'boring' and sometimes long-winded storyline and thus provide a renewn feeling of action and suspense or it's used as a sort of 'comedy relief' or perhaps to incorporate some elements that weren't fit in the game in time or just couldn't be placed in a manner that would coexist with the main concept, I think it should seek it's place in a game other than Diablo.
OK, nothing really wrong with Diablo having side quests, but if perfectionism is what you're after, why clutter menus with logs that are long, difficult to decipher and quite fury-inspiring.
OK, still not too much of a problem right? They could be simplified, but that would of course cause them to dumb-down and make the quests look like no-choice yes or die scripts ( or both choises) that were written by a two-year-old.
You can't deny that there are many games that have really worthless quests that don't thrill, just the opposite. I believe it is because of the unimagination and incompetence of the creators to challenge themselves further and better their work, instead giving up.
If it's simply put 'fun' what you're after then find it in a different game. Diablo 2, and 3 I hope, were made in such a fashion that you never lose sight of what you seek. The constant chases in Diablo 2 serve to lead you, not to push you away from playing or cause constant stress: "Oh, when will this level end ?".
No, Diablo is fun to play by all means, it's just that the reason it had such success is because of the hard work and game design of the team who loved doing what they did. Careful planning, storytelling, like a brilliantly composed play are the things that provide the level of immersement and wholehearted pure fun (which in turn makes the player/consumer want more). If they didn't really bother with the work, why should I be obliged to appreciate it?
Back on topic: say no to side-quests in D3. No to their form where they are the type already seen in many other games. They don't have to be 'officialy' side quests that don't affect the ending, but as seen in D2: One 'quest' that gives way and evolves into a second one that is different, yet incorporated within the story is what they should continue doing.
Music is made out of beeps and insignifant sounds. It's only when blended into cohesion that they produce the effect known as : "Shit, that's tight!". A bad side quest is like an off-key acord. A well written book for example has many elements fitted and it's only together that they form good reading material. Many thoughts, plots and ideas sound clattered, but with a well defined story that clamps them together or perhaps with the opposite- a chaotically laid story with many samples, yet all bridged together will make what we want Diablo to be... Art of the highest order.

lol it can still easily be a ranger since who said you cant shoot arrows at melee distance xD

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees
Eh, i don't think it should turn into every other RPG where we have to go rescue someone's cat, but the randomized quests in the original diablo were definitely part of its charm. You can't really say side quests in a Diablo game wouldn't fit, because the original Diablo only really had one non side quest, and that was go down and kill Diablo. All of the side quests in Diablo are somehow important, helping the town, or gaining new rare artifacts to help you on your way to kill Diablo. I dont want a massive amount of quests just for questing's sake, but ive yet to see a game recreate the randomized quest system the same way Diablo did.
I'm compelled to agree. I enjoyed the fact that Diablo had the random quests you could go on like king leoric (oh how i miss that). I would greatly like it if it had those in D3.

It would make guilds useful.
Screw that. All the guilds I need are my left shieldarm and my right bashfest pawnsword.
That's great for you, but there are plenty people out there that would like to play with many friends and interact with them for endgame purposes.
Another suggestion:
It would be nice to see 2 major factions in the game. Instead of Horde vs Alliance, I'd like to see Hell vs Heaven.
Just a thought.
If you read up on the game lore you will realise that the world of Sanctuary is much more complex than just 2 factions
