This has probably been asked before and I apologize if it has but I'm not finding much... I was wondering if anyone has run the numbers for XP in this situation... Would I get more XP (running FoM/Weeping Hollow) in MP9 with a Hellfire Ring and Ruby in my helm or in MP10 with Amethyst in my helm and my crit ring to boost my dps.
Yeah, I usually run without any XP gear even on MP7. In a full group with NV5 a ruby only yields 8.2% more XP on MP7 - and 18% more health ain't that bad.
You rock, that's exactly what I was looking for! Looks like MP10 with no +XP gear (on myself) is the way to go if I can do it quickly.
I'm not sure how that information was helpful at all, there's way too many unknowns.
You need to figure out if the ring will help you kill that much faster. How many deaths the amethyst prevents and what the % xp a death costs. If you can kill at your current kill speed -10% or so.
Which you most likely can't since mobs have 1000% more hp and that means you're either giving up stacks or taking considerably longer to kill elites. I specifically mention elites, because it's easy to overkill white mobs by that much, but not elites.
So rather than guessing and estimating
get a stopwatch
Log your xp before the run. If you're close to leveling, record the xp required to hit that level. That way you can still figure out your total xp earned.
Do a run of the same type. That means if you do den/crypts make sure you're only logging games that you do those.
Record your total xp earned for each run and figure out your xp earned an hour. ((xp earned/time)*60)/1000000
Once you have a few runs of each MP, just average them out and see for yourself.
5 runs in each MP should be accurate enough and if there's not much of difference pick whichever gives you more essence/hr. Which means pick the difficulty where you're getting similar xp/hr but killing more elites/hr.
If you've never done this and the results between 9/10 are close.. I'd consider repeating this for mp8, but you've already got the data for 9/10 to compare.
