What if Blizzard is just watching how people react to no auction house for an extended period of time because they're thinking of removing it.
They stated that they're not happy with how the Auction House has turned out, and if it was possible, they'd like to remove it. But it's so intigrated into the game that they wouldn't.
Do you think they're watching like "Hmmmm, lets see how people respond when they have to manually find gear instead of buying it off the AH."
5/9/13 12:10 p.m. PDT: As we mentioned earlier, we're currently auditing transactions that were performed on the both the gold and real-money Auction House following the gold exploit in patch 1.0.8 that was discovered on Tuesday. We decided to perform a complete audit and focus on the few players that exploited this bug rather than performing a full rollback and taking everyone offline for a day – losing all the progress they made.
This audit is a time-intensive process, and to make sure that we can do a thorough job, we’re going to keep the Auction Houses in maintenance until that work is complete. Unfortunately, our previous estimate was incorrect, and for that I personally apologize. We don’t have a new ETA, but we anticipate that the service will be unavailable for at least another 24 hours. We’ll continue to provide updates in this thread regarding the status of our Auction House maintenance as they become available.
I don't think so. I don't believe there is any "maintenance" involved at this point. That was likely concluded yesterday morning at the latest. At this point it's about freezing gold transactions in all forms in order to keep the duped gold in one place.
Even though the AH has caused problems for the game I don't believe removing it is the best solution. Limiting its function or discouraging use however is appropriate. I however believe their first attempt at AH discouragement (BoA gear/recipes) is the wrong way to approach it.
