They're different games, with different goals. I've played both games for thousands of hours. Much of the love for D2 is nostalgia - I recently went back to D2 and some of the complaints people have about D3 (too easy, no endgame, not enough stash) and also just class/build diversity are by far worse in D2. However, D3 offers a constant reward loop (you know you're gonna get X amount of paragon/augments per hour) whereas D2 is full of RNG (you can play for 10 hours straight and find nothing, or get a high rune in one run).
Some people enjoy apples more, others oranges. Doesn't make either fruit bad.
Personally i feel like i can go back to D2 every year and play like an addicted maniac for a month. In D3 i have to force myself to go back for the new season and in the last season i didn't even bother...
D2 has a lot of replayability but i can't really say that it's more than D3 because it depends on many things that mostly revolve around a person's own taste.
D2 has more replayability because you can't create one character and have it run all builds simply by swapping your gear and skills. Also, the droprate f certain items makes the game take more time to "master".
The most fun thing in D2 is creating new characters, farming gear for them and building them. Once you have a really well geared character on level 99 there's not much to do except for PVP which is why it is considered to be the true end game by many. Problem is that B.net ping sucks for certain people and PVP kinda sucks because of that.
I think D2 was great for its time, but in the end, that is it for me.
D3 has much more to offer, and if D3 came out when D2 did, you would all still be shitting your pants at how good the game is, just like you are with D2 now.
We are in the era of Nostalgia, no new rendition of a game is good anymore. Every new game that had an original in the 1995-2005 range is being shit on by this Nostalgia society, and it is truly a shame. Especially when the real issue is the lack of ability to get into something new, the inability to accept change. People now just want what they used to have, because they were younger then, felt better then, and experienced something on a grand scale for the first time.
Attitudes like this are really hurting the gaming industry.

Your statement is on point. As almost always
Same here, I went back to D2 just recently. But regarding the stash space, I feel so hopeless in D2 compared to D3.
Maybe the reason is that I strictly only play 1 class each season in D3. This way the stash space is more than enough. In D2 I dislike muling and without that you have absolutely no chance keeping almost any useful item... same reason why I barely use any charms. To completely fill your precious inventory space to get some useful benefits is really one of the worst "features" in D2 ;D

Anyone else feel like this? more replayability through both pve and pvp in addition to different builds probably is the main contributor to this.
I still play d2 daily.
d3, i haven't played in months
there's still a lot to learn from d2 i think, not just using the same item names.
