Is there going to be pet control in D3?
I did some searching and couldn't find an answer one way or the other. I hope that they do add some sort of micro management to summons for the witch doctor. In d2 I love playing a summon druid and necro and am planning on playing the witch doctor as well. I hated that I had no control of my pets though. There were times when I wanted them to fight a certain monster or not fighting one but could not. Something as simple as shift clicking on a monster to target it for your monsters would be huge for a pet class in D3. This also includes control of any mercs you might have.

There is no info on this as you said, so everything else is just speculation. I really hope they include some kind of pet control myself, and I'm pretty confident that they will.
I assume theres no micro management on pets because the WD's pets can't be controlled. Both gameplay video and blizzcon demo proves it. But things can change of course.
Bit I guess they are fixing the "passive" feel that summoner class have in D2 by adding skills that makes you interact with your pet, like explode then or buff then with other spells.
I don't necessarily want passive/defensive/offensive option, more of a "hey lets all attack this guy right now" or "lets leave him for last". If you dont have that option and you fight bosses with lots of small guys around him then you will loose the control of power your summons give you and make it much more difficult then the classes that can focus fire. I just think a simple attack control could greatly fix this.

I agree, I had the biggest pain in the butt killing Andy with my summon necro, cause all my skellies would be like, "Oh look! A fallen! Let's kill it and ignore the large demon woman attacking our master!" It would have really helped on certain quests though, because I would've taken out the big bad monstie instead of having my minions attack the first thing they could get their hands on. But I also must agree with italofoca, I've yet to see it taking place with the WD, but that isn't to say there won't be another class that you will see this sort of thing implemented. Fingers crossed!

Well unfortunately, I don't think we will get another pet class. Mainly because of the interview where Jay said they are trying to make sure every class is different with no overlaps. But I don't think it would be that hard to add a targeting option for your pets AI. I'm not greedy, all i want is a shift click target ability.

most likely the passive/defensive/offensive option
I just don't think that this is a good solution. First off, why would you ever want passive in D3. You would always have them on offensive. Defensive really wouldn't work either because lets say you want them to attack something and then you get hit by some random little monster. They would all turn to try to defend you and loose focus on what they were attacking.

I think having a type of shift clicik on a monster makes your minions attack that monster or somethign alkong those lines would be fine. Or have it so your minions attack whatever your atacking or making your minions smart and when a boss is around they go after that first.

You still have to fight IM unless you justrun by them. I also doubt they willhave IM inD3. Not tomention it would be pointless to add passive for 1 monster.

I agree, we need more pet control. For example, nobody likes a dog that won't listen to their commands. Necromancers should be able to Summon and Control their undead minions. WDs should be able to command their dog-like summons who to sic first. Druid should be able to direct his animal companions to attack the big cheese instead of the little rotten cheeses.

Long story short, I personally don't think passive/defensive/offensive is they way to go with pet control. Maybe there are a "few" reasons to not have your pets attack, then just explode them for their damage and fight the monster by yourself ( this is for the WD class of course, like I mentioned earlier, I doubt we will get another pet class.). This really doesn't give you the control you need for a pet class. In WoW, they had p/d/o but they also had a targeting system too, I believe the targeting system would be way more constructive to helping this class out.

that's a good idea. hold ctrl + hover a circle around a group of monsters with your mouse to attack them and continue to attack until they are dead, moving a bit to do so. or ctrl + clicking a spot makes them stay in one spot and attack everything that goes near there, just to sort of defend an area without them wandering off. ctrl + clicking on a friendly target makes them defend that target if you are helping a friend in a game or doing a quest that requires you to guard someone. and ctrl + right click just makes them move somewhere. sounds complicated but it's really not.. to me anyways
I always wanted to be able to micro manage the pets. I think it would make the WD so incredibly fun and a bit challenging maybe.
But maybe it would be OP in pvp since you have more control.
