Jailer, frozen and thundestorm after 36 is why you need to use it. You cannot avoid these attacks. Aside from those it doesnt have a lot of use. But with the current design its mandatory since you cannot afford to walk a mile back to your corpse.
Honestly, as soon as you have two, put that baby on. the 15% elite damage, crit hit chance, socket and crit hit % make it the best ring in the game, next to stone of jordan...
You may not even need two; depending if you got the socket/CHD/CDR roll (whichever two you needed.)
*sigh* Either I'm extremely unlucky, or I'm doing something seriously wrong. I'm currently sitting at about 6million toughness in my M6 gear. I guess I have bad luck with all resist? Anyway, I've been using Unity since I entered T6 and I still sometimes get screwed on levels 29-30+.
When you guys say that you are using Unity, I assume is one for you and another one for your immortal templar, right? Either way...I play D3 since vanilla and I still never saw a damn unity drop. I have a single one at my templar that a friend gave me. I'm pretty sure I'm bugged.
Toughness in generell doenst tell you how well you can mitigate certain elite affixes. You could have like 15mil toughnes with high HP and using string of ears and things like jailer/thunderstorm/frozen/electrified still hurts you a lot. So for solo runs id rather bump arcane/lightning/fire resist and getting as much hp as needed that a single tick/hit of the related elite affixes doesnt proc my awareness.
I can do GR37 even without double unity. At 38 things gettin rough and the risk to die is much higher since when im not paying 100% attention im a oneshot when awareness is on cooldown. Im running like 8mil toughness with +1k arcane/lightning/fire resist and 18karmor. Being PL600+ helps a bunch on that matter.
I just can't get there in seasons yet. GR37 Jailer is a PAIN without double unity. SOJ is helping me kill it fast at least. Its really a countdown when I find out a Jailer...I got all the way back and wait. Such a boring mechanic.
I have been wondering this aswell. On my hardcore DH i havent been lucky enough to get any unity's so ive been maxing out solo at around gr 32. ive failed the timer on lots of 32's for having to wait out awareness procs due to jailer affix. on grift 31 jailer takes me to like 10% hp on gr 32 takes me to liek 2-5% hp, so if I get hit by anything first (thunderstorm) then jailer its gg. also I got very unlucky and got perdition boss on gr 32. his teleport would 1hit proc awareness and even with me staying close enough to watch his animations and holding down vault when they start 9 out of 10 times i would still get hit and proc. So as hc dh im running into alot of walls because of jailer. if I got a good countess julias i think gr 30-33 would be a cake walk except for perdition boss lol.
and if anybody cares my toughness was like 14m when I did those. (its lower now because of some high dps drops, now I need to get more toughness somehow, I dont think my 440k hp can survive w.o 1shots in gr 30+
The worse thing is....even melee players with 15m toughness die for instant for jailer em higher GRs so we will never survive GR40+ no matter what. You just need to keep going back and wait for it to die following your sentries. Thats just too damn boring.
U dont just simply vault away from the teleport strike lel u vanish it
Thats true for yellow unique ones. The rare blues one are almost impossible to vanish them all. Unique ones can be vaulted but are harder. Using Zei right now I can do GR35/37 without any jailer killing me, I just stays in a place that they dont hit me. Still, boring as hell.
Invigorating gemstone + unity does pretty well but you give up a dps gem. Jailer and frozen (control impairing) dont hurt nearly as much. 50% from unity and 46% (lvl40 gem), but this combination still shows how overpowered jailer is at high lvls.

I've not found a single Unity either, so it's not just you.

Ive done grift 38 solo and I don't have unity or countess julia. Jailers are only mobs that can kill me if I just pay attention to whats happening. Its tricky but with vault+tumble I can "dodge" jailers about 95% of the times. Smokescreen is good too. Keep at max range so your sentries keep firing. Only time I die is if theres a blue jailer mob at the entrance of new level (No room for kiting and I run out of discipline to use vault). Its tricky to deal with one yellow with jail, its a nightmare to deal with 3-6 blues with it :(.
From my experience all the other sources of damage can easily avoided by just paying attention.. dont stand in the fire or poison puddles, vault away from thunderstorm, LoS lightning/electricity, kite frozen orbs, vault from frozen patches etcetc..
Unity makes this game easier obviously, but its not really needed in sc.

Sitting on 13m toughens here but still they hurt like mad at 38 :|
